2013 청주미술창작스튜디오에서는 제6기 입주작가 아티스트 릴레이 전시를 개최한다. 이번 전시는 그간 작가들의 입주기간동안 제작된 작품들을 중심으로 스튜디오와 외부에서 진행된 전시 및 개별프로젝트 등을 정리하여 전후 작가의 향방을 보여주는 전시로 보여준다. 이번 아티스트 릴레이 전시는 김준기작가의 전시로 6기 입주작가의 17번째 아티스트 릴레이전을 시작한다. ■ 청주미술창작스튜디오

타자(他自)의 초상 ● 최근 몇 년간 지속된 나의 작업은 재현이라는 끊임없는 그리기의 행위와 회화가 갖는 시간적 사고에서 비롯된 하나의 방법론, 그리고 그 결과로 파생되는 여러 층위들의 결합에 의해서 서술된다. 작업에서 보다시피 개인적 서사와, 가족의 사건, 심리적 풍경, 시간과 공간 등을 거울이라는 표면, 더 정확히 말하자면 거울의 이면에 새긴 것이다. 보기와 생각하기, 새기기의 과정에서 던지는 지속적인 질문은 존재와 삶에 관한 것으로 어떤 시간과 공간 속에서 가벼워지고 사라지는, 어쩌면 소멸되어가는 현대인들의 불안한 심리, 찰나적인 기억을 '빛그림'이라는 나름의 방법으로 그려낸 것이다.

투명한 유리를 통해 투과되고 반사되어 오버랩 된 혼성의 이미지에 관심을 가지고 출발한 작업은 다양한 거울과 여러 가지 유리가공기법이 더해져 라이트 박스 형태로 완결되어진다. 거울의 이면을 새기는 행위는 거울이 된 유리를 다시 투명한 유리의 상태로 환원시키지만 물리적 상처를 남긴다. 물리적 상처가 만들어낸 흔적은 형상을 만들고, 그 흔적을 통과한 빛의 이미지는 거울이기 때문에 맞닥뜨리는 가변적인 상황들과 끊임없이 충돌하면서 새로운 관계를 형성할 것이다. 생성과 소멸이라는 순환의 고리 속에서 거울의 표면에 새겨지고, 투과되고, 비춰지는 다양한 층위의 이미지와 의미들의 관계를 사고하는 과정이 나의 작업에서 중요한 지점이다.

2010년 후반부터 진행된 「반영된 풍경」 시리즈는 익숙한 장소에서 느껴지는 낯선 경험과 유리(遊離)된 사유가 결합되어 만들어진 작업으로 규격화된 외형적 구조와 욕망의 과잉으로 혼재된 현실의 삶에서 결핍되고 부재한 것들의 출구를 모색하는 작업이었다. 최근에는 이러한 외형적이고 관조적이던 관심이 사람으로 옮겨졌고, 보다 직접적인 날것의 느낌으로 표현하고 싶은 욕구가 생기면서 작업에 변화가 일어났다.

「타자(他自)의 초상(肖像)」은 타인(他人)의 초상(肖像)을 통해 바라보는 자화상(自畵像)이며, 전신(傳神)을 바탕에 두고 표현한 초상화와 거울에 비춰진 자신들의 모습을 오가며 타인과 자신의 삶에 대한 성찰을 통해 정체성을 찾아가는 작업이다. 이번에 제작된 아버지 시리즈는 지난해 갑작스럽게 발생한 교통사고로 병원 치료를 받았던 아버지의 모습과 간병인으로 그 곁을 지켰던 나의 소회(所懷)를 담은 작업이다. 한 점 한 점 새겨진 드릴의 구멍과 그 구멍 사이로 새어나오는 수 만개의 빛이 모여 아버지의 형상을 만들어 가는 과정 속에서 아버지의 삶과 인생, 날것의 나를 재발견하는 작업이다. ■ 김준기

The Other's Portrait ● My works lasted near several years would be described by sum of next two things. First, sole methodology came out from endless painting called 'present' and time-based consciousness by painting. Second, combination of many layers by the results of above method. As you can see, my works are outputs of carving individual history, family events, psychological landscape, time and space in the surface-more specifically other-side of a mirror. Continuous questions throughout a circle of looking, thinking, and carving have deeply related to existence and life. It reflects nervousness of modern people and temporary memories which are lightened and disappeared or might be dissipated with my own method. ● The work has been started from great interests in overlaped combinational image penetrated and reflected by transparent glass. Within the process, it goes through diverse mirrors and additional work techniques. Finally it completes its work as a form of light box. This act, carving the other side of the mirror, revivifies mirrored glass towards a transparent glass again but also leaves physical scars. Traces from those scars creates shape, and they would form fresh relations while conflicts with variable situations because the image of lights passing through them is the very mirror. It is the most important point of my work that whole process of thinking relations between images being carved in the surface of mirror, penetrated, reflected, and meanings within a cycle of creation and extinction. ● 「Reflected Landscape」 series, proceeded since late 2010, were results of which combined unfamiliar experience at familiar space and disconnected consciousness. Those works were for finding exits of lacked and absent things in modern life which mixed with formed external system and oversupply of desires. Nowadays, my interests have moved from external and meditative into human, and it encouraged myself to express materials as more directive and rawed feelings. It also created several changes at work. ● Basically, 「The Other's Portrait」 is the portrait throughout the other's portrait. It is the way to find self-identity through reflects of the others' and my life, going through portrait and yourselves reflected by mirrors. At this time, Father series expresses my father's image and my impressions when he had car accident last year. This work is what I rediscover my father's life and raw myself within the process of making father's shape of punctatim drilled-holes and the millions of lights being oozed from the holes. ■ KIMJUNKI
