아포리아(Aporia) 시리즈는 롤랑 바르트(Roland Barthes)의 책『사랑의 단상(A Lover's Discourse)』을 모티브로 한 작업이다. 흔한 사랑의 언어들 이면에 있는 공허함과 쓸쓸함을 표현하기 위해 네온으로 'Why?', 'I love you with all my heart' 등의 텍스트를 제작해 풍경에 직접 설치해 촬영했다. 진부한 사랑의 문구들이 적막하고 황량한 공간과 만나는 통렬한 아름다움의 순간을 표현함으로써 현대인의 고독과 비애, 그리고 어떤 논리와 철학으로도 해결할 수 없는 '사랑'의 딜레마를 전하고자 했다. 아포리아(Aporia)는 그리스어로 '막다른 곳에 다다름'이라는 뜻을 갖는데, 여기서는 '사랑'이라는 난관에 부딪힌 딜레마를 함축하고 있다. 이번에 선보이는「P.S. I Love You(2011)」와 'How Could You Do This To Me?(2011)」역시 되풀이되는 내면의 공허한 울림을 표현하고 있다. ■ 이정

Aporia series took the motif from Roland Barthes's book,『A Lover's Discourse』. Lee Jung produced texts such as 'Why?' and 'I love you with all my heart' in neon, self-installed them amid landscape scenery and photographed them to express the shallowness and solitary side behind the banal languages of love. Manifesting the bitter beautiful moment of the corny love phrases' rendezvous with the desolate and bleak space, Lee intended to deliver the solitude and grief of modern men and the dilemma of 'love', insoluble with any logic or philosophy. Aporia means 'reach an impasse' in Greek and in here an implication of 'love' dilemma confrontation is hidden.「P.S. I Love You, 2011」and「How Could You Do This To Me?, 2011」also evinces the recurrent void echoes of the inner self. ■ LEEJUNG
