은+14+가슴을 장식하다

이번 전시의 테마는 '가슴을 장식하다' 이다. 장식의 효과와 의미는 그 대상에 따라 전혀 다른 모습으로 다가온다. 가슴은 다른 신체부위에 비해서 비교적 많이 드러나며 상징성을 강하게 지니고 있다. 때론 여성성의 상징이 되기도 하고 동물적 공격성의 대상으로 쓰여지기도 하며, 자신감 및 인간적 진실성을 대변하기도 한다. 이와 같은 상징성을 은장신구에 담아보고자 하는 것이 이번 전시의 주제이다. 그러나 '은'은 조형적 표현수단으로서는 비교적 밖으로 드러나지 않는 내향적 성향의 재료로 인식되어져 왔다. 그렇다면 과연 이 재료를 통해 위와 같은 상징성을 어떻게 그리고 얼마만큼 담아낼 것인가 하는 14인 각각의 고민들이 이번 전시가 갖는 의미가 될 것이다. ■ 고보형

Adornment comes in very different meanings depending on what is being adorned. The heart/chest is a relatively largely exposed part of the body and often symbolizes something. It is a symbol of femininity, is used as a target of brutal attack, and can represent confidence or humanity. The goal of the pieces of this exhibition is to express these symbolic meanings through silver jewelry. Regarding the timidness and subtleness of silver as an artistic medium, the challenge of the fourteen participating artists is how and to what extent we can embody these symbolic meanings into jewelry. ■ KOBOHYUNG
