살아가면서 사람들은 얼마나 이리저리 휘둘리며 추한 모습을 드러내기 쉬운가. 이름에 대한 헛된 집착, 물질을 향한 끝없는 욕망, 타인에 대한 비방과 험담, 겉치레로 향하는 한없는 경박함, 하루라도 노력하지 않으면 일시에 흙탕물처럼 혼탁해지고 마는 번뇌들로 우리 마음은 얼마나 흔들리며 오염되어 있는가.

어지러운 마음을 다스리기 위해 우리는 나름대로 책을 읽거나 예술 작품을 감상하거나 훌륭한 사람들을 만나려 애쓴다. 자신에게 맞는 구도의 방법을 찾기 위해 다양한 노력을 기울이기도 한다. 나의 경우, 오랜 시간 동안 글을 써왔음에도 틈만 나면 글을 쓰지 않고 사는 방법을 찾기 위해 이리저리 꾀를 부리는데 그럴 때 화가 김지현을 만나면 퍼뜩 정신을 차리게 된다. 살아가는데 중요한 게 무엇인가를 새삼 깨닫게 되고 진정한 예인의 모습, 삶의 진지함과 엄숙함에 대해 다시 한 번 생각하게 된다. 이리 보면 화가 김지현은 내게 친구일 뿐더러 더 나아가 훌륭한 스승이라 할 수 있다. 그의 존재만으로도 흔들리는 나 자신을 추스르게 되니 말이다.

글이 곧 사람이라는 말이 있듯이 화가에게는 작품이 곧 그 사람일 터이다. 김지현 화가의 삶과 사색과 일상이 오랜 숙성을 거쳐 작품으로 태어나는 것인 바 그 작품 또한 그의 영혼처럼 빛나는 광채로 사람들의 눈길을 사로잡을 것이다. 이번 전시된 그의 작품을 통해 많은 이들이 삶을 진지하게 고민하고 자신을 돌아보는 계기가 되리라 믿는다. 혼탁해진 영혼을 정화시켜 진한 희열을 느끼게 되리라 믿는다. 다시 한 번 이 자리를 빌어 김지현 화가의 뜨거운 예술혼에 깊은 경의를 표한다. ■ 연은순

How easy is this that we let the life take control us and make us show all the ugliness inside of us? Obsession to fame and material, slander against others, and frivolous minds to show off; our spirit can be contaminated so easily by all those agonies. ● We make an effort to control our cluttered mind by appreciating great people, literature or art pieces. We endeavor to find our own way to find a peace in your mind. For me, I tend to sly on writing, even if I am a writer and have been writing for a long time. When I see Painter Ji Hyun Kim, I bring myself together and be polite again. He makes me realize what is really important in our lives, how an artist should behave, and how serious our lives are. Kim is not only a friend of mine but also a great teacher to me. Just by his existence, I can be me again. ● A story is a writer itself for a writer and similarly, painting must be a painter itself for a painter. Painter Ji Hyun Kim's works reflect kim's life, philosophies, and himself and I am sure they will catch people's attention. Through his paintings, he will purify audiences fatigued soul, help them look back their lives and be them again.
