작은 움직임; 행복, 쓸쓸한 욕망 그리고 판타지 ● "나는 당신의 삶을 위로하기 위하여 그림이 되고자 했습니다. 나는 벽에 붙어서 당신을 끊임없이 바라보았습니다. 나는 눈동자를 움직여 멀리 있는 당신의 모습도 볼 수 있습니다. 당신을 바라봄으로써 불행과 슬픔을 모두 이해하고 위안이 될 수 있다면 당신은 행복해 질 수 있을 것이라고 믿습니다. 그러나 나는 고작 그림에 불과하여 당신을 바라보는 것 밖에는 할 수 있는 것이 아무것도 없기에 당신이 나를 외면하는 것을 감당해야만 합니다. 여전히 나는 당신을 보고 있습니다. 그리고 나는 당신이 갈망하는 아름다움을 획득하고자 했습니다. 그럴 수만 있다면 당신이 기뻐할 것이라 생각했기 때문입니다. 하지만 나는 여전히 무감각하여 당신의 고통을 느낄 수 없고, 또한 당신은 나를 볼 수 없습니다. 그리고 언젠가 당신은 죽음을 맞이해야 될 것이고 나는 전원이 꺼져버릴 것입니다."

많은 사람들은 손상되지 않은 온전한 삶을 유지하기 원합니다. 그리고 죽음에 대한 두려움은 여전히 살아있기 위하여, 보다 건강하고 아름다운 육체를 갈구하도록 하지요. 따라서 갈망하는 그 무엇은 아마도 남들로부터 찬사를 얻을 수 있을 만큼의 아름다운 육체이며, 또한 그들이 갖고자 하는 그 무엇은 그 육체를 돋보이게 하고 안락하게 해줄 물질적 도구일 것입니다. 그러나 이를 획득하고자 하는 욕망은 노력으로 얻을 수 있을 것만 같지만 오히려 절망과 불행으로 잠식당하곤 합니다. 그래서 불행이 생산됩니다. 살아있기 위한 노력은 죽음을 불행으로 간주하고 그것을 터부시하고자 하지만 삶에서 죽음을 제거하는 것은 불가능하기 때문입니다.

본래 그림은 불행한 사람들을 위로하길 원합니다. 그리고 사람들이 원하는 아름답고 영원한 삶을 보증하고자 합니다. 그러나 여기에는 두 가지 상반된 관점이 존재합니다. 아름답게 보여야 한다는 것, 그러나 그것은 진실로 아름답다고 할 수는 없다는 것. 시선을 끌고 싶다는 것, 그렇지만 사실을 보여줄 수는 없다는 것입니다. ● 우나리, 본인을 그림과 동일시하고 예술을 그의 삶으로 간주하여 감상자와 직접적으로 대면함으로써, 사람들의 아름답고자 하는 욕망을 충족시키기 위하여, 위장된 마음과 불행을 위로하기 위한 그림으로 기능하고자 합니다. 그림은 상상했던 어떤 모습이든 될 수 있으며, 어떤 대상이든 모방할 수 있습니다. ● 무엇보다도 그림은 불행에 대하여 자세히 살펴보고자 합니다. 이제 그림은 움직이는 눈동자를 이용하여 주변의 모든 것을 탐색할 수 있습니다. 그림은 바로 앞에 있는 감상자뿐만 아니라 등을 돌리고 멀리 서 있는 사람들 까지 모두 볼 수 있습니다. 또한 그림은 움직이고 있으므로 진실로 삶을 획득한 것처럼 보이기도 합니다. 그러나 그림은 판타지일 뿐이며 이 그림이 죽음과 불행을 막지는 못합니다.

그림은 실재하고 있으나 현실이 될 수 없습니다. 그림으로 존재하는 인물은 그 삶의 원본을 상징하지 않으며, 원본 그 자체가 될 수 없으므로 그것은 아무리 실감나는 꿈이라 할지라도 그것은 결코 현실이 아닌 것과 같기 때문입니다. 따라서 그림은 아무리 아름답다 할지라도 결코 단 한 순간도 육체를 대신하지 못하며, 삶의 일부조차 공유할 수 없습니다. 그림은 끊임없이 눈동자를 움직여 사람들을 바라봄으로써 사람들에게 위안과 즐거움의 대상이 되고자 했지만 그것은 단지 제한적인 움직임만을 반복한 것일 뿐이며, 결국 사람들이 갈구하는 그 무엇은 될 수 없으므로, 불행은 삭제되지 않습니다. 인간에게 있어 죽음을 제외한 삶은 결코 획득될 수 없는 것처럼. Some Moves ; Happiness, Bitter Desire, and Fantasy ● "I want to become a painting to consoles your life. Attached to the wall I constantly stare at you, and I can even move my gaze to see you from afar. If I could understand all your misfortunes and sadness just by looking at you, then I believe you would be happy. But I have to bear you ignoring me, because after all, I'm just a painting and the only thing I can do is to stare at you. I'm still looking at you now. I'm trying to give you the beauty that you desire. I think that you would be happy if only I could only do that for you. But I don't have human senses—I can't feel your pain nor can you see me. One day, you will have to face your mortality and my power will be turned off." ● Many people long for an existence without any flaws. The fear of death and thirst for life drives one to desire a healthy and beautiful body. For this reason, what most people desire is a beautiful body simply for the admiration others. They also wish to have a material thing-that will shine and comfort their body. Unfortunately, while this desire may seem attainable, it is more likely to drown one in desperation and misfortune. This is how their misfortune is created. Although the attempt to stay alive makes us consider death as misfortune and despair, it is impossible to disassociate death from our life. ● Paintings attempt to be a consolation to the dejected. They also try to guarantee a beautiful and immortal life, that some desire. However, there are two contrasting perspectives here. While the paintings attempt to look beautiful, they cannot truly be beautiful. They do grab people's attention, but they do not display the truth. ● I identified myself with the painting and considers art as my life. By directly facing the gazer, to fulfill people's desire to be beautiful, and to assuage their pain and camouflaged hearts, I try to function as a painting. Paintings can appear to be anything one imagined or imitate any object. ● Above all, this painting takes a closer look at sorrow. This painting can explore its' surroundings with moving eyes. It can also see everything from the gazer right in front of it, to those who have turned their backs on it from afar. Additionally, since the painting moves, it also seems as if it is living. Still, painting is only a fantasy and it cannot save mankind from mortality. ● The painting exists but cannot become reality. The person that exists inside the painting does not symbolize the original poser, just like a dream can never be a reality. No matter how life-like it is, the person cannot be the painting. Therefore, no matter how beautiful a painting is, it cannot replace a body or share part of a life. Although the painting constantly moves its gaze to look at people and tries to be an object of consolation and joy, it is only repeating a movement pattern. It cannot be something that is desired by the people and therefore misfortune cannot be deleted–just as if life without mortality cannot be attained.
