자석 위에 종이를 올리고 철가루를 뿌린다. 종이를 흔들면 철가루가 서서히 어떤 형태를 만든다. ● 경제 위기, 핵위기, 환경 위기, 텍스트의 위기, 위기의 위기…. 현대 사회를 둘러싼 위기의 종류는 끝이 없다. 무엇이든 표현하시오. 자유롭게 뱉어내시오. 더,더,더....., 모든것이 용납 된다는 '지금'이 나를 압박한다. 나에게 위기가 닥쳤다. 여기서 생긴 균열은 나의 타고난 균형 지향 본능을 위협한다. 흔들린 균형은 더 이상 나에게는 표현할 것이 없다는 공백에 대한 공포와 게으름에 가까운 나의 속도가 주는 무력감, 그리고 열등감을 거쳐 질서가 주는 안정감에 안착함으로 회복된다. 위기가 균형을 이룬 상태를 흔드는 것이라면, 그 위기에서 다시 균형을 이루는 힘이 질서다. ('지금'이 나에게 주는)너무 많은 가능성은 오히려 질서를 갈망하게 만든다. ● 세상은 질서로 가득 차 있고, (우주의 별들에게 각자의 길이 있듯) 모든것에 나름의 질서가 있으며, 질서들 사이에 때로는 마주침과 때로는 빗나감이 일어나고 있다. 내 머릿속에서 색의 질서와 음의 질서가 부딪히던 순간 (2004년 1월), 나는 질서를 움직이는 보이지 않는 힘을 목격했다. 칸칸이 물감으로 채워진 팔레트에서 색이 만들어지고 섞이는 현상과 동시에 음이 만들어지고, 화음으로 이어졌다. 귓가를 맴돌던 음들의 긴꼬리가 사라지고 고요함만이 남았을때 시간은 늘어날대로 늘어나 정지했다는 느낌마저 들었다. 질서에 의해 개체 사이의 관계가 만들어지고, 힘을 내재하고 있는 형태로 드러난다. 예를 들어 악보는 서로 다른 성격을 가진 음에서, 리듬으로, 화음으로, 멜로디로 이어지는 유기적인 과정을 만들어낸 질서가 형태로 변환한 것이다. 그리고 이 형태로부터 음을 연상하는 환원 작용이 가능하다.

질서를 얻기위한 과정들은 일종의 의식에 가깝다. 대상에게 충분한 시간을 준다. 그 시간동안 나는 주로 관찰을 하는데 절대 (나 혹은 대상을) 재촉해서는 안된다. 기계처럼 뜯어서 분해할 수 없다. 나 스스로에게 끊임없이 질문하고 대상에게는 침묵과 집중만 필요하다. 이 시기에 침묵은 미덕이다. 대상이 반복을 거듭하는 순간부터 나는 분주해진다. 반복이 반복되는 순간 내가 보고있는 것의 본질이 드러난다. 그럼 나는 본질이 작동하는 원리를 찾아내고, 그 원리를 조형적 원리로 전환시킨다. 이때 개체의 이름과 성격을 드러나는 것 이면에 자세하고 풍부하게 만들면 만들수록, 개체의 생명력은 강해지고 살아 움직이듯 자동적으로 형태를 만들어낸다. 형태를 만들어가는 과정과 만들어진 형태를 통해 '알고 있다고 생각하던 것'들을 재확인하는 이 모든 과정이 드로잉이다. 나에게 드로잉은 작가로서 세상을 바라보는 일종의 탐구생활이다. 질서를 알아야 그 대상을 온전히 이해할 수 있다.

「가영.드로잉」은 나는 누구인가라는 고전적 질문에 대한 드로잉적 대답이다. 내 위에 종이를 올리고 철가루를 뿌리면 어떤 그림이 만들어질 것인가? 나는 개체로서 어떤 특성을 가지고 있으며, 어떤 질서 속에서 외부와 관계를 만들어 가는지에 대한 관찰로 만들어졌다. 「가영.드로잉」의 질서는 객체지향프로그램(Object-Oriented Program)의 개념들과 닮아있다. 나는 「가영.드로잉」을 움직이는 작은 질서로 '개체', '거울', '간격', '차이', '우리'를 만들고,그들의 개념과 기능을 자세히 정의한다. 예를 들어 '거울'은 인간의 두뇌에서 타자와 관계를 형성하는 거울뉴런을 차용했다. '거울'은 가상의 축으로 존재하며, '개체'는 이를 통해 반사를 거듭한다. '거울', '간격', '차이', '우리' 각자의 역할이 작동하면 까다롭고 예민하며 스스로 완벽하고 독립적이라고 생각하는 '개체'를 만족시키는 관계가 만들어진다. 「가영.드로잉」의 형태가 보여주는 관계는 대등한 느낌의 상호작용이라는 표현보다는 엄밀히 자기중심적인 면을 보여준다. 나를 중심으로 시작한 관계는 나를 포함한 '우리'의 개념으로 나와 너 사이의 일방통행적 차원보다 다중적이며 복합적이다. 각자의 존재를 충분히 지키면서 서로 닮는 교류가 요점이다.

「가영.드로잉」의 질서 1. 하나의 개체는 12개의 거울을 통해 상하좌우로 자신을 반사시킨다.    이를 통해 4종류의 9개의 개체들이 만들어지며, 이 개체들은 하나의 우리가 된다. 2. 1회 반사될때마다 색에 차이가 생긴다. 3. 새로 만들어진 우리는 개체의 기능을 가지며 1의 방법으로 반사를 시작한다. 4. 1과 3의 단계가 반복될 때마다 개체 사이의 간격은 전 단계의 두배로 늘어난다. 5. 개체 사이에 차이가 나타나지 않으면 정지한다. 개체 - 하나의 개체는 더이상 나뉘지 않는 기본적인 단위로 스스로 독립적이며 완전하다고 믿는다. - 개체는 내적으로 살아있는 자율적인 존재이며, 힘을 가지고 있다.    이 힘은 앞으로 효과들의 반복 혹은 자기 재생을 예고한다. - 성격과 이름을 구체적이고 상세하게 규정하기만 하면, 개체는 자신의 현실인 화면 안에서 살아있는    생명체처럼 행동하게 된다. 거울 - 거울은 가상의 축의 형태로 존재한다. - 축을 중심으로 두개의 개체가 마주보고 대칭을 만든다. 모델이 없으면 닮음도 없으므로 오로지    자기 자신을 닮을 뿐이다. - 거울의 재현은 확산으로, 무한의 자기반복을 한다. - 머릿속의 거울뉴런은 내가 바라보는 모든것들에 나를 반사시킴으로 공감의 관계를 만든다. 우리 - 개체들로 이루어진 최초의 개체를 포함한 확장된 단위이다. - 개체의 기능과 성격을 유지한다. 차이 - 반사의 저항현상으로 차이가 생긴다. - 차이로 생기는 변형된 반복은 리듬을 유발한다. - 반사의 횟수와 공감의 정도는 반비례한다. 간격 - 개체 사이의 거리에 의해 다른 개체로부터 스스로를 보호한다. - 서로의 공간을 존중하며, 침범하지 않기 위한 장치이다. - 질서가 유지되기 위한 핵심적인 역활을 한다. ■ 전가영

I place a paper on top of the magnet and sprinkle some metal scrap on top of it. When I shake the paper, the metal scraps slowly create a formation. ● Economic crisis, nuclear crisis, environmental crisis, textual crisis, crisis within crisis..., seems like there are endless number of crisises surrounding our contemporary society. Express yourself, freely express yourself, more, more and even more... fact that everything is acceptable at present exerts enormous amount of pressure on to myself. I was faced with a crisis. This new crisis threaten my instinctual lean towards order and equalibrium. This imposed imbalance leads to my fear, laziness and inability and thus I'm unable to truly express myself artistically. Such feeling of complete sense of inferiority and impotence leads me to take a refuge in the order which grants me great comfort and peace. If a crisis is a direct result of kaos then crisis leads to total equallibrium through the order. At present, all the possibilities that lies in front of me makes me thirst for the order. ● World is filled with all kinds of orders. (the stars in galaxy occupy its own distinct space) everything has its own order. Within this order, at times there are conflicts and mis-alignments. Back in January 2004 the color orders and the musical note orders converged. I realized back then there were invisible powers that move this particular order. Colors are born on palate and as they are mixed together, new musical notes representing these newly born colors come together to create a harmony. The musical notes that resonated in my memory fade, and serenity is all that is left behind, the time is stretched infinitely as if time is being frozen. Relationship between individuals are created by the order. The relationship takes on a physical form with its own strength. For example, musical scores are result of individual notations with its own distinctive characteristics, rhythm, harmony and melody that lead to organic process and ultimately transforms into an order. From such forms, one can reduce different notes. ● The process of achieving the order becomes a ritual. I allow enough time. During those time, I spend my time making observation but I never rush myself or the subject. I cannot disassemble like a piece of machinery. I question myself endlessly but towards the subject only silence and focus are needed. During these times, silence is a virtue. As the subject repeats itself, I become very occupied. As it repeats itself, the subject of my observation becomes more apparent and clear. I search for the principles behind the actual mechanism. I transform those principles into visual principles. As its name and its characteristics become more apparent, it evolves into a more precise, and more complete matter which in turn makes the matter stronger and becomes a living, breathing matter able to automatically create itself. The drawing process is a result of realization of this forms and knowing the process involved. For me as an artist, drawing is a constant search for a mechanism for observing the world that surrounds me. One must comprehend the order in order to fully comprehend the subject matter. ● 「gayoung.drawing」 is my artistic drawing answer to the eternal question "Who am I?" What kind of images will I create if I sprinkle some metal scraps on top of the paper which is laid on top of myself? As an individual, what sort of characteristics do I possess? The question can also be answered by the observation of under what order do I form a relationship with others? 「gayoung.drawing」's order resembles the Object-Oriented Program. I define the concept and its respective functions, 'individuality', 'mirror', 'interval', 'difference', and finally 'we' are created in which all of terms are the mini orders that ultimately move 「gayoung.drawing」. For example, the function behind the inter-communication between human mind, the mirror neuron transforms into the concept 'mirror'. 'Individuality' reflects itself using the virtual axis via a 'mirror'. 'Individuality', 'mirror', 'interval', 'difference', and 'we' when each of the aforementioned terms functions according to its intended purposes, it creates a relationship that satisfy the 'individuality' and thinks itself as being complicated, sensitive, perfect and independent. Relationship forms depicted in the 「gayoung.drawing」 do not impose its values on to others. In contrast, it does not imply that it imposes values of others onto itself. The communication is not a one way street type of simple dimension but rather multi-dimensional and complicated. This relationship, rather than interactive equal terms, it is clearly self-centered. It respects each other existence and at the same time it tries to emulate each other. the order of 「gayoung.drawing」 ● 1. Single individuality reflects itself through 12 separate mirrors from upper to lower and from left to right directions. As a result, 4 different categories of 9 individualities are created, all these individualities become single we. 2. every time a reflection is made, there is a difference in its colors. 3. Newly created we takes on the characteristic of individuality and it begins its reflection journey using the step 1. 4. Every time it repeats the step 1 and step 3, interval between individuality increases by two times. 5. When difference between two individuality is absent, the process comes to a hold. individuality - Single individuality is indivisible and is a basic unit and it believes that it is independent and in perfect state of matter. - Each individuality is internally living and independent matter, and it possesses power. This power represents the future repetitive process as well as self regeneration. - If the name and the characteristic are specifically indicated, each individuality acts as if it's a living matter within its reality eco-sphere. mirror - Mirror exists as a form in a virtual axis. - Two individualities face each other in a perfect symmetry with the axis in the middle. Since there isn't any model to resemble each other, it only resembles itself. - Mirror repeats by expansion and it repeats infinitely. - Mirror neuron in my brain reflects myself from everything I see and creates a sympathetic relationship. we - First expanded unit made up of the original individuality unit. - It retains the individuality functions and characteristics. difference - Difference is created by the defense mechanism of the reflection. - The transformed repetition creates a rhythm. - The number and the sympathy of the reflection is asymmetrical. interval - Each individuality defends itself by distancing itself from one another. - Each individuality respects another's space and it acts as a mechanism to prevent intrusion. - Key function is to maintain the order. ■ JUNGAYOUNG
