낯선 만남 uncanny encounter

캔버스에 작은 조각을 파내려간다. 칼로 두꺼운 캔버스를 오려내는 수고로운 과정은 불가능 할 것만 같은 두려움과 마주하는 순간이기도 하다. 보이는 존재를 잘라냄으로써 보이지 않았던 비존재와의 관계를 불안정하게 만드는 것이다. 그 안에는 여기를 넘어서 저편을 보고자하는 간절한 의미가 담겨있다. 단순히 물리적인 공존을 넘어 초월을 꿈꾸고자 하는 그 찰나가 칼이 닿는 순간에 존재 한다. 하지만 그것은 무엇을 파괴하려는 것이라기보다 의미의 방향을 뒤집으려는 의지의 수단인 것이다. 끊임없는 고된 행위의 반복 안에는 내 삶의 흔적이 담겨있다. 그것은 어쩌면 내 삶의 단면과 마주하는 낯선 만남의 순간일지도 모르겠다. ■ 김서연

A tiny sculpture is carving down the thick canvas. Tearing off the thick canvas with a knife is a process plagued with hardships like facing a moment of the most likely impossible fear. By cutting out the visible existence, the relationship with the previously invisible non-existent being becomes unstable. In there, there is a behavior that comprises the earnest meaning of seeing further beyond what is in here. That split second when it is aspired to dream of going beyond the simple physical existence is in that very moment when the edge of the knife gets in touch. However, instead of saying that it aims at destroying something it is a method to reverse the direction of the meaning. That is the hard and beautifully unfamiliar step taken towards the search of that certain hope that only seemed to be impossible. ■ KIMSUHYEON
