춘맹 Alice Evans

낭만을 보다 : 작가 이지아의 동시대 낭만 3부작 ● 이번 「춘맹/Alice Evans」(2012)으로 작가는 2010년부터 지속하여 온 3부작 영상 시리즈를 완성하였다. 우선 일상이 속도 경쟁전이고 미래에 대한 비젼이 불투명한 가운데, 든든한 정신적 버팀목을 구하기 힘든 젊은 작가가 어떤 주제에 대해 삼년을 지속하여 형식적 완결을 거두어 냈다는 건 귀한 경우다. 작가의 고집을 가늠할 수 있고, 그 주제에의 몰입을 예측할 수 있다. 그렇다면 작가를 그토록 붙잡아두었던 주제는 무엇일까. 작가는 세 편의 영상에 각각 '이어도', '타령', '춘맹'이라는 개별 제목을 붙이면서 이미 세 편을 '진경별유풍경'(좀처럼 보기 힘든 아주 좋은 풍경)이라는 대제로 묶어둔바 있다. 물론 3편의 영상에 공통적으로 등장하는 외형적 소재는 풍경이지만, 그 통합적 풍경 속에서 작가가 좇고 있는 관심사를 헤아려 보았다. 그리고, 그것이 동시대 낭만의 정황일 것이라 생각해 보았다. ■ 김희진

A View on the Romantic: Jia Lee's Trilogy on the Contemporary Romantic ● Jia Lee's new work Chun meng(Alice Evans)marks the completion of her video trilogy that she has produced since 2010. Above all, however, it is a preciousoccasion in which a young artist has continued to focus on one subject for three years and achieved formal completion. One can guess the artist's persistence as well as her immersion in the subject. What is then the subject that has been keeping the artist so much into it for such longevity? Lee has already put the three works, Ieodo, Taryung and Chun meng(Alice Evans)under a broader subject of jingyeongbyeolyupoonggeong(眞景別有風景, an expression in Chinese characters to name a superb and rare landscape). While all works in Lee's trilogy deal with the notion of landscape on the surface, I assume the artist's interest in her pursuit within the whole landscape might be the condition of the romantic in the contemporary world. ■ Heejin Kim
