기어이 새로워짐에 나는 관심이 있다. 이는 돌아온다는 느낌을 동반하는데, 나는 그 과정이 마땅히 흰 캔버스 앞에 서게 하는 동력이라 생각한다. 그런 후에 나는 무엇을 품을 수 있을까. 모든 것이 어쩜 그리 잘 맞물려 무엇이 되어가는 것을 지켜볼 때, 나는 필시 내가 할 일이 있음을 상상한다. 생은 어쩌다가 이렇게 된 것이 아니라, 꼭 이러하게끔 되었다. 되어감에 몸을 맡겨두고, 내가 이겨내야 할 것이 무엇인지 알아낸다. 스스로에게 자격을 부여함으로써 힘을 낼 필요가 있다. 그러는 와중에 생기는 감격. 여러 불만과 피해의식, 그리고 자만에서 벗어나 자신을 인정하고 사랑하는 법을 배우기. 작가로서 사는 것이 아니라, 작가가 되기 위해서 살 것. 지금 당장 내가 되고 싶어 하는 사람으로 살 것. 경험과 생각도 더 채워지고 다듬어져야 할 것이 아니라, 매 순간에 내가 몰입하고 사랑할 것. 생각하고 그리는 행위 자체에 즐거움을 느낄 것. 이 모든 너무나도 당연한 일들이 지금 나에게 요구된다. 때는 이미 있다. 자부심을 근거로 중단 없이 사실이 된다. ● 1. 방향이 아니라 향방, 통합이 아닌 종합, 흐름이 아니라 동시다발, 제자리에서의 우좌운동, 발생·사건으로서의 회화, 자생하는 구조, 역동하는 평면. 결코 잡아둘 수 없는. 말랑말랑한 직감. 곧이 어 거대한 착각 ● 2. 구름이 생멸하는 항구적 찰나, 나무가 일렁이는 바람. 당연한 것을 상상할 수 있을 먼 길. ■ 김홍희

사회와의 관계속에서 개인에게 증상같이 드러나는 분열과 흔들림, 균형을 향한 집착에 주목하고 있다. 증상을 안고 살아가는 개인에 대해 주목하면서 개인의 증상에만 국한시키지 않고 사회와의 관계 속에서 이를 설명해내려는 작업을 하고 있다. 잠시나마 나를 잠재울수 있다면 그리고 생각해본다면 사회는 서로가 보이지 않는 연결선에 매달려 끝없이 진동하는 세계처럼 느껴진다. 진동하는 세계의 단면은 어떻게 보여질수 있는지, 그리고 이 진동을 벗어나 있는 것이 있을 수 있는지, 있다면 어떻게 설명될수 있는지에 대해 알아가고자 작업에서 다루고 있다. ● 그리고 범위를 축소하고 클로즈업하고 바라보는, 증상을 드러내는 개인에 대해서는 요즘 현대사회에서 정상과 비정상을 나눌 수 있는 기준(절대적인 것은 아닌)을 시작점으로 접근해 나가고 있다. 예를 들면 물건을 올려놓을 수 있는 지점이 양쪽의 두개뿐 아니라, 무한대까지 늘어날 수 있는 수평저울이 있다고 생각해본다면, 한 지점마다 한 개인의 다중된 인격들이 놓이게 되고 수평이 맞춰지지 않은채, 멈추지 않고 흔들리는 저울을 생각해본다. 수평이 맞춰지지 않고 흔들리는 것이 보통이라고 생각하면서 특수한 경우를 생각해내면서 접근하고 있다. 저울이 수평이 맞춰졌다고 믿고있는 경우(자신의 평온함에 대한 과신)와 다중된 인격이 흔들림을 견디지 못한채 밖으로 이탈한 경우(정신병자에게서 드러나는 면) 등의 경우에 대해서도 증상들이 단면적으로 드러나는 것을 가지고 사회안의 관계로 무대를 확장하여 작업안에서 고찰하며 설명해나가고자 한다. ■ 백경호

나는 굴곡진 현대사를 거쳐온 한국 남성의 시대적 욕망과 상처들에 대해 이야기한다. 힘과 권력에 의해 늘 굴복 당했던 약자의 피해의식은 쉽게 보상되지 않고 트라우마로 남을 수 밖에 없다. 오래 전부터 대륙의 속국으로 치부되며 주체성을 침해 당해왔고 36년이라는 세월 동안 식민의 굴욕을 맛봐야 했다. 그나마 해방과 건국의 과정도 외세에 의해 정략적으로 이용당하고 유일한 분단국가의 운명을 안고 살아가게 되었다. 군사정권 때는 그 트라우마가 폭발한 시기였다. 대국민적인 선전가요의 가사가 '우리도 한번 잘살아보세' 였다 열등감을 연료 삼아 그야말로 '빡세게' 살았고 어느 정도의 성과를 이루었다. 아니 어쩌면 기적 같은 일을 해낸 것인지도 모르겠다. 하지만 여전히 한국 사회의 주류를 이루는 욕망은 외부의 시선 아래에 갖혀 주체적이지 못하고 타자의 인정이 있어야지만 완성되는 반쪽자리 욕망이다. ■ 정성훈

In the end, I am interested in becoming new which is accompanied by feeling of coming back. I consider this process as a motive for me to stand in front of a white canvas. Life doesn't go accidentally, but must be in this way. Just let it become something and figure out which one is needed to. By giving myself qualification, I need to push me more. In the meanwhile, the trill that I feel. Overcome dissatisfaction, victim mental and vanity and learn how to recognize myself and love myself. Not to live as a painter, but will live to become a painter. To live right now as someone who I want to be. It is important not to experience and to examine more and more, but to do love and to do my best every moment. To feel pleasure in the act of painting and thinking themselves. Artist Baek, Kyungho not only makes images of humans, but also makes his canvases in the shape of humans. the fictions made by creating such characters serve as tools to reveal the relations between individuals and the society they live in. The artist notes that each individual has certain symptoms, but the society divides people into normal and abnormal based in this standard. but from a certain viewpoint, the faltering inner balance of humans can be reflecting multiple personality, and at the same time, in the sense that such symptoms are formed within the social structure and relations, he intends to discuss the issue in the exhibition. I talk about Korean men's desires and wounds of the time, who have gone through winding modern history. The weak's victim mentality surrendering by power and strength all the time isn't compensated easily but cannot help but remain as trauma. They had been infringed independence regarded as a subject nation of continent from long times ago and for the years of 36 had gone through indignity of colonization. Even the process of liberation and founding was used politically by foreign powers, living by embracing a destiny of only divided nation. Military regime era is the time the trauma exploded. Lyrics of propaganda song toward people was 'Let us live well'. Taking feeling of inferiority as fuel, they really lived hard and achieved somewhat. At any rate, they may achieved something like miracle. But, still the desire consisting of the mainstream of Korean society is confined under the outside view and isn't independent, it is a half desire completed only by others' recognition. ■ Jung Sung Hoon
