Journey to find self

나를 찾는 여행 ● "나를 찾는 여행"이란 주제를 다루는 본 작업은 작가의 일상 속 소소한 변화와 경험을 바탕으로 자아에 대한 성찰과 이상세계를 찾아가는 과정을 표현하였다. 삶의 감각적 경험을 구체화시키는 동시에 단순화 시켜 개념화하고 형성된 지각을 주관에 의해 취사선택 하여 상징적 의미를 부여하는 소재들을 조합하였다. 작가가 경험하고 지각하는 세계가 작품을 만들어낼 수 있는 표상의 재료가 되기 때문에 작품을 기획하는 모든 과정이 자아를 찾는 여행이라고도 할 수 있겠다.

본 작품은 작가가 강아지를 키우면서 얻은 감각적 경험을 바탕으로 대상에 작가 자신을 투영시켜, 자아를 찾는 과정을 그린 것으로 기린, 연꽃, 의자 등 상징적 의미를 가진 소재들을 접목하여 삶 속에서 대립되고 모순되던 것들을 조화시키고 작가가 지향하는 이상을 찾아 가는 과정을 다룬 것이다.

진흙탕에서 자라지만 더러움에 물들지 않고 어떠한 곳에서도 푸르고 맑은 줄기와 잎을 유지하며 한 방울의 오물도 머물지 않는 연꽃과 세계에서 가장 키가 큰 동물이며 강한 힘과 유연함으로 모든 상황에 대처하는 능력이 탁월한 기린은 작가의 의도를 함축적으로 보여주는 소재이다. ■ 양영은

The main theme of this artwork is titled as "Journey to find self", and is intended to depict the artist's introspection and her passage towards finding her ideal world based on small issues and experiences in her daily life. ● The work conceptualizes life's sensory experiences by specifying and simplifying them at the same time. These perceptions are then chosen carefully with artist's own desire, rebuilt in the work as important symbolic materials. ● For the world that the artist experiences and perceives eventually becomes the fundamental sources for the artwork, we can regard every step of organizing the work as a pathway towards finding the true self. ● This work depicts the artist's journey to find her by projecting herself onto the subjects, based on her sensory experiences in life with her dog. She harmonizes the conflicting and contradicting things in life through symbolic materials such as giraffe, lotus and chair. All these features are carefully described for the artist in searching for her ideals. ● Two main materials symbolize the artist's will in the work. The first lotus represents something that can never be dishonored. It's a flower that blooms in the mud, but it can't be stained with dirt and retain its fairness with its clear leaves and stem.
