1. 긍정적이며 부정적인 어느 저녁 구름처럼 운집한 도시인들의 무수한 색 위로 투명한 유리 너머로 들어오는 저녁 햇살은 아름답다. 유리를 통과한 햇살은 찬란한 공간을 만들어낸다. 풍성하게 햇빛을 복사해내는 내부를 드려다 볼 수 있는 단절과 소통을 동시에 가지고 있는 고립된 곳에서는 긍정적이지만 개방된 곳에서는 부정적인 "유리". 찬란한 햇빛을 반짝이는 별빛을 갈망하는 다락방에서는 조그마한 유리창을 통해 자연의 기쁨이 노래되지만 사방이 유리 벽으로 둘러싸인 엘리베이터에서는 무한히 펼쳐진 하늘로 오르면서도 날개가 꺾인 존재의 구속을 경험하게 한다. 외부를 받아들이는 유리창과 외부와 단절시키는 유리벽. 소재의 동질성을 가졌음에도 다른 역할을 하는 그것들의 이중적 모습은 인간의 근원적 속성과 닮아있다.

2. 내부적이며 외부적인 투명한 유리는 언제나 공간을 분할하지만 벽돌이나 콘크리트로 쌓아 올린 불투명한 벽과는 다르게 내부의 모습을 보여주며, 유리에 비친 외부의 모습까지도 감지하게 만들어준다. 그로 인해 유리에 반영된 이미지는 유리에 비친 외부적 이미지와 유리를 통과한 내부적 이미지가 겹쳐있다. 겹쳐 있는 이미지에는 안타깝게도 외부의 기억도, 내부의 형상도 온전하지 않다. 이 내부적이며 외부적인 이미지는 그 어느 이미지도 또렷하게 나타내지 못하고, 파손된 두 이미지의 상처만을 드러낸다.

3. 갇힌 공간의 박제된 기억과 변화하는 외부의 현재성 투명한 유리에 의한 분리는 내부적 공간(투과된 이미지 존재하는)과 외부적 공간(반사된 이미지가 존재하는)의 성격을 변화시킨다. 내부적 공간은 갇힌 공간으로 변모하며, 그 갇혀있음으로 인해 내부적 이미지는 그 공간을 개인적 공간으로 소유하게된다. 이 소유된 개인적 공간은 마치 자신의 방에 사적인 물건을 들여놓듯 이 기억을 축척 할 수 있는 기능을 부여받게 된다. 반면 외부적 공간은 열려 있는 공간으로, 사적인 무언가를 축척할 수없는 환경적이며 현재적인 공간이다. 이 때 유리에 반영된 이미지는 박제되어 버리는 개인의 기억(과거)과 언제나 변하는 현재가 불완전한 모습으로 서로를 상쇄하고 융합하면서 하나의 모습으로 나타난다. 하지만 이 순간에도 융합된 이미지는 융합이라는 단어를 배반하는 본질적 단절을 내포하고 있기에 결국 허상에 불과하다. 이 융합된 이미지가 아무리 하나로 보인다고 할지라도 결국은 투명한 벽인 유리를 사이에 두고 현재성을 띤 환경적 공간과 기억이 축척되는 개인적 공간의 분리가 전제되고 있기 때문이다. 은유적으로 이것은 개인적 기억을 축척하며 환경적 현재를 살고 있는 우리들에게 내부(개인)과 외부(환경)가 협업하는 조화로운 삶에 대한 환상을 심어주지만, 본질적으로는 기억 안에 고립되어 있는 개인과 끊임없이 개인과 무관하게 흘러가고 있는 환경을 인식하게 만든다.

4. 풍성한 햇빛을 복사해내는 풍성한 햇빛을 복사해내는 유리에는 반사된 이미지가 없다. 개인적 공간이 투과되어 있는 유리에 빛이 풍성해졌을 때 개인적 공간은 밝아진다. 어둡고 음침한 개인의 공간으로 인해 유리에 반사된 외부가 잘 보이는 시기는 지났다. 유리를 통과하고 있는 햇빛이 풍성할수록 반사된 이미지는 희미해지고 내부의 이미지는 투명하게 밝아진다. 외부의 이미지에 의해 상쇄되거나 융합됨이 없이 온전한 모습으로 가볍게 드러난다. 그리고 이제 인체의 아름다운 부분들이 투명한 살결을 띠며 찬란한 그 모습을 드러낸다. ■ 안진국

0. The man who moved in was weird. All fences in his house were made of shiny glasses.…… What if making the fence with firm pine boards? said a kid, who later was exiled from the beautiful alley. …… One day, when he took the fences out, the alley is confirmed as the least sunny place…… Quoted from "專門家" by Hyungdo Gi (『Black Leaves in a Mouth』, Moonhakgwa Jisungsa, 2000, pp.15-16.) 1. Positive and Negative Evening sunlight, entering over the transparent glass above all various colors of the city people gathered like clouds, is beautiful. The sunlight passing through the glass forms a shiny space. The "glass" is as positive meaning, in the place where the sunlight radiates, where is transparent, where there is severance and communication and where isolated, while it is seen as negative meaning in the open place. The joy of nature is sung through a small glass window in the attic where shiny sunlight and twinkling starlight are longed for. However, imprisonment of existence is experienced in the elevator where the four sides are surrounded by the glass walls, when one is soaring to the sky with the broken wings. Both the glass window which accepts the exterior and the glass wall which blocks the exterior are made of the same material but play the different roles. This twofold characteristic is similar to the basic properties of mankind. 2. Internal and External Transparent glass always divides the spaces. Being different from the opaque walls made of bricks or concretes, it reflects the interiors and also makes it possible to see the exteriors reflected on the glass. The external image reflected on the glass is overlapped with the internal image passing through the glass. Unfortunately, the overlapped image is not perfect as for the external memory and for internal formation. This internal and external image cannot express any of those images clearly, and only reveals the wounds of the two broken images. 3. A Stuffed Memory in the Confined Space, and Nowness of the Changing Exterior The separation by the transparent glass modifies the characteristics of internal space (where the image passed through exists) and external space (where the reflected image exists). The internal space changes into a confined place, and with this confinement, internal image owns the space as a personal space. This owned personal space functions as to accumulate memories like buying private stuffs and placing at one's private room. On the other hand, the external space is an open space that private things cannot be stored, and also it is environmental and contemporary space. Here, the image reflected on the glass is appeared as one image when the incomplete and stuffed personal memory(past) and incomplete changing nowness are countervailing and combining with each other. However, even in this time, combined image involves the meaning of essential severance which discords with the term combination, that it is just an illusion. Even though the combined image is shown as one, it is premised that the environmental space of nowness and private space with accumulated memories are separated, in between of the transparent wall, glass. Metaphorically, this shapes our fantasy of harmonious life where the internal(private) and external(environment) spaces are coordinating to us who are living an environmental present by building up the personal memories. However, essentially, it makes us to recognize an individual who is isolated in one's memory, and the environment which continuously flows irrelevant to an individual. 4. Radiating Abundant Sunlight There is no reflected image on the glass which radiates abundant sunlight. When there is full of light on the glass where the private space is passed through, this space becomes brighter. The time, when the external space reflected on the glass is shown well because of the dark and gloomy personal space, has passed. As the sunlight that passes through the glass is more plentiful, the reflected image becomes more vague and the internal image becomes more transparent. It is clearly appeared as a full image without being offset or combined by the external image. Then now, the beautiful parts of the body are revealed brilliantly with their transparent pearly skin. ■ Lev Ahn
