Chung's artist statement ● 나는 자연을 사랑한다. 나의 작품세계는 늘 대자연에서 영감을 받아 자연의 신비로움, 자연의 아름다움을 나타내고자한다. 내가 여태껏 그린 그림들중 바다생물과 새의 혼합형태의 상상속 동물의 거대한 목탄화 작품은 내 작품세계의 반환점이 되었다. 그 작품 이후로 나는 나만의 상상속 특이하고 신비로운 생물체들을 그려내기 시작했다. 물고기 비늘과 지느러미를 가진 거미, 투명 잠자리날개를 가진 박쥐, 새깃털을 가진 문어괴물 등 내가 탄생시킨 특이생물체들에게 신비로운 분위기와 판타지적인 요소들을 더해 괴기스럽고 징그럽지않은채, 아름답고 환상적일 수 있도록 하였다. 나는 매일 꿈을 꾸며 살아가는 몽상가이다. 내안에는 수많은 판타지세계가 살아있고 남들이 모르는 내안의 세계를 캔버스위에 옮기며 나는 최고의 행복감을 느낀다. 내 많은 작품들에 나타나는 깃털과 날개, 그리고 물고기 지느러미는 어디론가 향해 자유로이 날아가고싶은, 또는 헤엄쳐나가고 싶은 나의 꿈을 무의식중에 나타내는 걸지도...

Chung's artist statement ● I am an incurable dreamer and my work is a reflection of who I am. My mind is filled with images of alternate fantastical worlds and my work represents the translation of these images onto canvas. I constantly draw inspiration from my imagination as well as from the beauty of reality. I predlige oil paint as the smooth richness of the medum allows me to better recreate the dreamy quality of my images. ● My approach to panting has changed over the past few years. My work used to be more throughly planned while now I mostly let my imagination run free. My emotions, unleashed, guide me in the creation of fantastcal imagery characterized by an undelying mysterious mood. My work often includes realistc elements such as feathers and wings. These elements, symbols of the utmost kind of freedom, express my desire for my own personal freedom. Through these images, in many ways so personal, I am hoping to establsh a connection with other people, to ignite new emotions. I wish to share my vision of the world, to give the viewer a refreshing experience that is in many ways connected to untamed childish thinkng. ■ CHUNGHAEYONG
