Never, Never Land

영성과 욕망이 내재된 사이공간 ● 유혜원은 구름이 있는 하늘 공간 안에 일상오브제들과 사람들이 함께 존재하는 현실과 이상의 공간이 혼합된 환상적 그림을 그린다. 보라색과 핑크 톤의 가벼우면서도 밝은 색채의 하늘 배경에 선으로 사물들을 섬세하게 그린 그림은 빛과 그림자라는 이중적 의미공간이 아닌 다른 세계를 표현하고 있다. 그리고 오브제를 낯선 상황에 두는 초현실주의자들의 데페이즈망 기법을 사용하며 다양한 은유와 상징을 나타낸다. 모호하고 불안하며 지적인 의미를 갖고 있는 붉은 색과 푸른 색의 혼합인 보라 색 톤으로 표현한 구름이 있는 하늘은 물질과 정신이 혼재된 공간임을 알 수 있다.

그의 초기작업인 광학적인 사진필름의 네거티브 이미지로부터 발전된 하늘 공간은 현대인들의 보편적인 가시성에 강요된 시각과 욕망이 아직 제거되지 않는 중간지점이다. 그러나 이 공간은 어두운 부분을 모두 반사광으로 처리해 땅, 하늘, 바다 등의 기존의 본질적 대상으로서의 자연의 의미 보다는 더욱 영적으로 보이게 한다. 태양이 구름에 가려 있지만 뒤에서 전체적으로 개입한 것 같이, 빛은 드러나지 않고 부드럽게 전반적으로 깔려 있어 반사의 내면공간으로써 은유적 의미를 충분히 담아내고 있다. 그것은 일상의 오브제와 사람들을 한 공간에서 평등한 위치로 등장시키는 것과 같은 맥락을 갖는다. 일상의 오브제는 여성인 작가가 경험한 욕망의 산물들로 소녀들이 꿈꾸는 화려하고 값비싼 가구들이다. 로코코의 장식적인 선으로 섬세하게 그려진 가구는 금방 사라져 버릴 것 같은 이미지로 표현된다. 이것은 만화나 그림 속에서 이미 존재한 신기루 같은 형상을 갖고 있으며 원본이 아닌 유사한 허상을 의미한다. 이 이미지들은 구름위에서 윤곽선으로만 그려져 물질을 탐닉하고 욕망을 위해 살아가는 현대인들의 삶을 대변하고 있다.

『Somewhere they Want III, 2011년作』에서는 형체가 규정지어져 있지 않은 비 물질인 구름 위의 장식적이고 사치스러운 가구들은 언제든지 날아가 버리고 변해버릴 수 있는 물질계다. 세 명의 인물도 함께 등장하는데 두 사람은 구름위에서 또 한사람은 침실에서 배경과 같은 색으로 그려져 기도하는 모습을 하고 있다. 『Somewhere they Want IV, 2011년作』은 화려한 틀을 가진 거울 혹은 액자 안에 또 다른 일상 공간이 자리 잡고 있으며 그 너머 장식적인 커튼을 통해 또 다른 세계를 그린 그림이다. 일상공간 안에서도 역시 기도하는 여성의 뒷모습을 보게 된다. 욕망의 현실공간은 구름위로 올라가 있지만 그 안에서도 또 다른 욕망과 갈등하는 인간의 본질을 그린 것이다. ● 작가자신과도 동일시되는 인물은 물질과 동화 될 수 도 있고, 기도를 함으로 형이상학적이며 영적인 위치도 갖게 된다. 유혜원은 빛이란 절대 존재를 찾아 젊은 시각으로 은유적이며 감각적으로 대상화하는 회화를 실험하고 있는 작가다. 영성과 함께 일상을 고요한 깨달음으로 진지하게 접근하고 있는 젊은 작가는 앞으로도 더욱 영혼의 힘을 지혜롭게 사용한 독창적 작업을 선보일 것이라 기대된다. ■ 김미진

An interim space in between with inherent spirituality and desire ● Yoo, Hye Won draws a fantastic picture where the reality in which everyday objects and people coexist and an ideal space into a skyey space with the clouds. Finely painting the objects in lines on the background of the sky in light and bright colors with purple and pink tones, her painting represents another world, not a twofold semantic space of light and shade. Using the depaysement technique surrealists placing the objects in unfamiliar situation, it represents a variety of metaphors and symbols. The sky with the clouds represented in purple color tone, a mixture of red and blue with ambiguous, unstable, yet intelligent significance, is a space where materials and spirits coexist. ● The skyey space developed from the negative images of optical picture films, her early works, is a interim point where the views and the desires forced by the universal visibility of modern people are not removed yet. Treating the dark with reflected light, this space, however, represents the land, the sky, the sea, and the sun more spiritually against its natural significance as the essential subject. Hidden behind the clouds, the sun, however, intervenes, in general, from behind. Concealed and softly carpeted, the light contains a metaphorical meaning of the inner space of reflection. It has the same context in that everyday objects and people are presented at the same level. Being the products of desires experienced by a female artist, everyday objects are the gorgeous and expensive furnishings that girls dream of. The furniture delicately painted in Rococo decorative lines are presented in the image that seems to vanish soon. This has a shape like the mirage already existed in cartoons or paintings, and means the similar delusion, not the original. These images drawn by borderlines only on the clouds represent the live of modern people indulging in materials and living for desires. ● 『Somewhere They Want III, in 2011』 is a material world in which the luxurious and decorative furniture on the immaterial cloud of which form is not regulated can fly away and transform anytime. 3 figures appeared in addition are painted in the same background color in the bedroom and they are praying for god. With an another everyday space in a mirror or in an ornate frame, 『Somewhere They Want III, in 2011』 paints an nother world through the curtain beyond that world. The back of a praying woman can be seen in everyday space, too. The real space of desires rises above the clouds, but the human nature in conflict with another desires inside is drawn. A person who can be identified with the artist herself can be homogenized with the materials and can have a metaphysical and spiritual position through praying. Looking for the absolute being - the light, Yoo, Hye Won experiments the painting to objectify sensately and metaphorically. Seriously approaching the everyday life through serene enlightenment with spirituality, the young artist is expected to showcase her creative works using the spiritual power more wisely from now on. ■ Kim, Mi - Jin
