Stayin' Alive

본 전시명『stayin' alive-스테잉 얼라이브』은 이름 그대로 두 작가가 만들어내는 동화의 이름. 하지만 지금 말하고 있는「동화」란 것은 어린이를 위한 동심을 바탕으로 지은 이야기에 기초한 내용만이 아닌 지금을 살고 있는 우리의 현실을 반영하는 것이다. 두 작가는 특별한 소재 및 대상을 통해 작업을 진행하지는 않지만 각각의 상황 혹은 각각의 장면에 그들만의 독특한 해석을 가한다. 작업에 드러나는 문자는 식별 가능하거나 그렇지 못하고, 그림 부분 역시 낯설거나 익숙한 모양새를 갖는다. 물론 그림 속 주인공들은 대중들에게 적절하게 미화 되어진 형상과 그 반대의 형상의 교묘한 결합을 보이기도 한다. 두 작가는 대부분 현실에서 이룰 수 없는 꿈, 초자연적인 인물들, 동식물 또는 사물들이 예술적의도로 창작된 공상적이며 실현가능성을 지닌 미적 표현을 통하여 인간 일반의 보편적 진실을 표현하고자 한다. 그리고 그것은 곧 두 작가가 만들어내는 동화로 태어난다. ● 동물 식물이 인격체를 가지고 등장하는 동화나 소설에서 현실적인 문제의 환경문제, 실질적인 생명체의 존엄성 문제로 시작하는 동화이다. 그것은 red list-레드리스트에 접근해서 얼마나 많은 동물들이 멸종위기에 처했는지, 동화 속에서는 웃고 떠들고 있지만 현실에선 생존의 문제에 봉착해 있는 멸종위기의 동식물들에 대한 진짜이기도 가짜이기도 한 이야기다. 프로젝트 참여방법 ● 마치 경찰이 실종자를 찾는 것과 같은 방식으로 커다란 지도로 꽉 찬 벽면에 사진, 드로잉, 글(현실의 기삿거리 또는 허구의 이야기)등을 수집하거나 그 모든 것들을 만들어내는 과정을 통해서 결국엔 우리가 미처 알지 못했던 부분에 관심을 갖고 집중하게 되도록 두 작가와 관객들이 '가짜 프로파일링'을 시작한다. ■ 김혜나_우국원

Stayin' Alive ● The exhibition title Stayin' Alive is also the title of a fairy tale created by two artists. 'A fairy tale' has been constructed, not only a story of pure innocence for children, but also reflecting our reality embodied in contemporary life. The two artists are interested in contextualising their unique interpretation of each state or situation, rather than engaging with certain types of material and subjects. In their work, the letters can sometimes be recognised, but sometimes not. Elements of their paintings draw upon familiar shapes, which are at the same time unfamiliar. The characters in the paintings explore an elaborate combination of beautified figures to the public and the opposite. The artists consider the universal truths of human experience through creating, imagining and realising in their artistic practice the dreams that do not come true in real life, of supernatural beings, animals, plants and objects. This results in a fairy tale by the two artists. ● Stayin' Alive begins with environmental issues and the sanctity of life in the form of a fairy tale or a novel in which animals and plants appear as individual human beings. It aims to create both a real and fictional story of endangered species that can be encountered struggling for survival in reality, whilst they laugh and chat in the fairy tale, about how many species are included as 'endangered' according to the Red List. Participation project ● Using the method of a policeman searching for a missing person, the wall is filled by an enormous map, and the viewers and two artists begin by weaving their own 'fake profiling' to explore the unknown parts that we seemingly miss, by collecting photos, drawings and texts (real articles or fake stories) and creating stories. ■ KIMHYENA_WOOKUKWON
