2012년 두 번째 프로젝트로 선보이는 『2012 아트선재 라운지 프로젝트 #2: 홍장오 - nowhere』에서 홍장오는 라운지 공간에 우레탄 비닐로 만든 투명한 위장막을 설치한다. '위장'이란 본래의 정체나 모습이 드러나지 않도록 꾸미는 것을 뜻하지만, 작가는 위장의 도구로 투명한 매체를 사용한다. 작가의 '투명한 위장'은 위장하고자 하는 대상을 숨기지 못하고, 역설적으로 그 대상을 재현(representation)시킨다. 쉽게 지나칠 수 있는 대상 역시 홍장오의 '투명한 위장'을 통해 조명되고, 나아가 이를 둘러싼 물리적•구조적•제도적 장치까지 드러낸다.

아트선재센터 라운지에 설치된 홍장오의 '투명한 위장'은 라운지 공간을 관통하고 분리하면서 공간을 재조명하고, '화이트 큐브(white cube)'인 미술관과 대중소비문화 및 상업성을 반영하는 서점과 카페가 공존하는 동시대 미술제도의 단면을 드러낸다. 따라서 홍장오의 개입은 복합문화 콘텐츠에 기반한 동시대 미술제도의 공공성을 재고하게 하는 예술적 실천으로 볼 수 있다. '투명한 위장'과 더불어 홍장오는 라운지 유리에 투명 매니큐어로 그린 페인팅 작품을 선보인다. 가시성과 비(非)가시성이라는 이중성을 지닌 유리 매체에 그려진 페인팅은 작가의 '투명한 위장'이 갖는 은폐와 노출의 의미를 다른 각도로 탐구한다. ■ 변현주

For its second project in this year, 2012 Artsonje Lounge Project #2: Jang-Oh Hong nowhere presents his transparent camouflage work, made of urethane vinyl that penetrates and divide the multi-functional space of lounge. Camouflage is generally used for hiding or disguising the presence of an object, yet the artist appropriates transparent materials to camouflage an object. By doing so, he rather reveals its surrounding physical, structural and institutional constitution by representing the object. ● Hong's installed 'transparent camouflage' exposures the lounge's multi-functional roles that indicate complex aspects of contemporary institutions; furthermore, reconsiders the publicness of art and its practice based on these aspects. In addition, the artist presents his painting, using nail polish on the glass of the lounge. The work navigates the meaning of 'transparent camouflage' through its material that has both visibility and invisibility. ■ Hyunjoo Byeon
