그 동안 한국의 젊은 사진 작가들과 함께 성장해 온 갤러리 진선은 2011년부터 좀 더 폭을 넓혀 "PHOTOSPECTRUM INT(포토스펙트럼 인터내셔널)" 이라는 이름으로 해외 젊은 사진 작가들과 함께 하는 전시를 진행하고 있다. "PHOTOSPECTRUM INT"는 현대 사진의 흐름을 다양한 해외 사진 예술의 스펙트럼을 통해 살피며 글로벌 문화 소통의 초석을 다지는 국제 기획전이다. 그 두 번째 프로젝트는 『크로스오버, 3+1』 헝가리, 오스트리아, 러시아, 한국 현대사진기획전 로 동시대의 다양한 작가들의 작품을 통해 21세기 현대 사진의 또 다른 지류에 대해 조망하는 계기를 마련하고자 한다. 국제적 전시의 하나인 이번 "2nd PHOTOSPECTRUM INT 2012"는 현대사진의 다양성과 사진예술의 컨텐츠를 더욱 더 풍성하게 만드는 동시에 활발한 해외문화 교류의 폭을 넓히는 계기가 될 것이다. 아울러 행사에 도움을 주신 모든 관계자와 작가들에게 깊은 감사를 드린다. ■ 허선

Gallery Jinsun has grown along with young and aspiring Korean photographers since its establishment. From 2011, Gallery Jinsun has hold exhibitions together with overseas growing photographers called PHOTOSPECTRUM INT. As part of international exhibitions, "PHOTOSPECTRUM INT" in Korea is designed to play a key role of cultural communication amongst the global photo art markets and to give an insight to the flow of the modern photos via versatile foreign photo arts. The Second project is organized with International arts exhibit named 『Crossover, 3+1』. Through this 『Crossover, 3+1』, spectators have an opportunity for appreciation of a new aspect of modern photography in the 21st century. I cordially expect that "2nd PHOTOSPECTRUM INT 2012" will not only enrich the cultural contents of contemporary photography, but also be a great opportunity to widen cultural exchanges globally. 크로스오버, 3+1 ● 전시는 창의적이고 실험적인 작업으로 꾸준히 성장이 기대되는 총 네 명의 현대 사진작가 작품을 선보이고 조망하는 기획전시이다. 헝가리, 오스트리아, 러시아, 한국으로 구성된 작가들은 동시대를 살아가는 젊은 세대들로 그들이 경험하고 느끼는 그들만의 고유한 세계를 사진으로 독특하게 풀어내고 있다. 크로스오버(Crossover)는 사전적 의미로 여러 장르가 교차한다는 것을 의미한다. 이번 전시 제목에서 시사하듯이 『크로스오버, 3+1』전은 동시대를 살아가는 네 작가들의 다양한 스타일이 뒤섞여 만나 동시대 현대사진의 새로운 관계성과 잠재력을 모색하고자 한다. ● 사진을 통해 시간을 정지시킨다는 것은 무엇보다도, 발터 벤야민(Walter Benjamin)이 말한 '시각적 무의식'을 드러내 준다. 즉 우리가 눈으로 볼 수 없는 것을 보게 해 준다는 것이다. 이렇듯 현대에 와서 사진은 시각적 무의식이라는 개념 속에서 다양하게 그 빛을 발하고 있다. 또한 롤랑 바르트(Roland Barthes)가 말한 사진의 특성을 "지금, 여기"라고 하는 한때 있었던 것을 보여주는 것이라고 했듯이, 사진가는 실재의 장면을 그대로 기록하여 보여주는가 하면, 눈에 보이는 범위를 초월하여 상상력을 기반으로 한 독창적 세계를 끄집어 낸다. 후자의 경우, 사진은 현실의 상황을 재해석하고 그것을 재현하는데, 이들 사진가의 입장에서 보여지는 시각적 재해석은 보이지 않는 세계, 즉 동시대에서 느끼는 새로운 세계의 이미지이며 오늘날 우리의 과거 현재 그리고 미래가 공존하는 또 다른 모습이기도 하다.

가보르 카스자(Gabor KASZA, 헝가리) ● 가보르 카스자의 연작 「Y」는 구성에 주안점을 두고 상황을 설정하여 이미지화한다. 그의 사진은 우리시대의 인간과 환경이라는 가장 근본적이고도 논쟁적인 문제를 다루면서 우리의 경각심을 일깨우고 인류 역사의 전환점을 나름의 방식으로 해석하고 있다. 가보르 카스자의 작품은 지속적으로 환경을 변형시키는 인간의 모습뿐만 아니라 인간의 꿈과 두려움을 동시에 담아낸다. 또한 그는 의식적으로 선택 가능한 우리의 삶의 방식과 그에 수반되는 책임에 대해 주의를 환기시키는 것을 넘어, 정체성을 탐구하고 사회 비판적인 자세로 우리네 삶을 재조명하게 한다.

폴 슈네겐뷔르거(Paul SCHNEGGENBURGER, 오스트리아) ● 폴 슈네겐뷔르거의 「The Sleep of the Beloved 연인들의 잠」시리즈에서 보여주는 이미지들은 그가 제작한 공간에서 연인들의 잠자리를 6시간 동안 장시간 노출을 통해 보여준다. 사람들의 잠자리에 대한 호기심으로 시작한 「연인들의 잠」 시리즈는 연인들의 감정 그리고 연인들과 장소에 대한 연결고리를 찾고자 한다. 사랑하는 사람들이 함께 잠을 잘 때 어떤 일이 일어나는지, 무의식 중에 일어나는 다정함이 표출되는 건 아닌지, 각자 서로 등을 돌리고 반대편을 향해 누워있는지 아니면 서로가 무언가로 연결되어 있는 것이지 등 이러한 많은 의구심으로 시작하여 나타난 다양한 이미지들은 무의식에 대한 탐구의 결과이다.

카테리나 벨키나(Katerina BELKINA, 러시아) ● 카테리나 벨키나의 「Empty spaces」시리즈는 인간을 우주와의 연결고리를 찾아 헤매는 창조물로 본다. 현대 도시는 그녀에게 있어서 인공적이고 물질적이며 외로움과 공허함이 공존하는 장소이다. 그녀는 이러한 장소에 살고 있는 현대인의 모습을 그녀만의 독특한 분위기로 다시 재현하고 가공해 새로운 이미지를 만든다. 이렇게 도시화된 세계는 인공적이고 물질적이며, 인공적으로 건설된 세상의 작은 점일 뿐인 인간은 더욱 외롭고 버림받은 감정을 느낀다. 벨키나는 그녀 스스로가 도시에서 인간으로 어떻게 느끼고 살고 있는지, 그녀 주변의 도시 공간에서 어떻게 스스로를 여성으로 느끼고 살고 있는지 등 그녀의 내적인 질문과 대화를 작품으로 끌어내고자 한다. 그녀의 시선에서, 대도시는 새로운 유형의 인간을 창조했다. 그리고 그곳에는 진정한 우주와의 연결고리에 대한 희미한 의식만이 남아있을 뿐이다.

홍승희(Seung Hee HONG, 한국) ● 홍승희의 「깊이에의 강요」 시리즈는 공간 속에서 강제적이고 강요된 깊이의 의미를 나타낸다. 즉 의도되지 않는 순간의 상황을 보편적인 일상의 모습을 반영하여 연출된 상황을 상상하여 표현한다. 그녀가 만든 공간들은 아주 낯설게 보여지고, 주름으로 연출된 장면들은 기이함과 신비감 마저 준다. 평범한 일상 속 오브제에서 느꼈던 주름의 흔적들이 작가가 만든 가상의 공간에서 두드러지게 나타나며, 삶의 깊이로 나타나고 있다. 즉 작가는 일상 속 오브제에서 느끼는 순간들을 기억하고 그 장면들을 독특한 방법으로 현실 속에서 재현하고 있는 것이다. ● 『크로스오버 3+1』전시는 오늘날 동시대의 사진의 다양함을 깨닫고 자기세계에 몰두하는 작가들의 작품들로 판도라의 상자를 열 듯 우리의 감각과 상상력을 하나씩 열게 할 것이다. 이것은 또한 보이지 않는 세계, 즉 동시대에서 느끼는 새로운 세계의 이미지이며 오늘날 다채로운 우리의 또 다른 모습을 제시할 것이다. ■ 조안 양정아

At 『Crossover, 3+1』 exhibition, 4 contemporary photographers with great potential in the future through their creative and experimental works, exhibit their works. These young generation from Hungary, Austria, Russia, and South Korea, distinctively unfold the unique world they feel and experience through photography. The dictionary definition of "Crossover" is the cross of multiple genres. As the title of the exhibition suggests, at 『Crossover, 3+1』 exhibition, the different styles for 4 contemporary photographers are met to explore the new relationships and the potential in the contemporary modern photography. ● Pausing the time through photograph unfolds "visual unconscious" which was said by Walter Benjamin; in other word, enabling us to see what we are not able to see through our eyes. Thus, the photography in modern times shines in the notion of unconscious. In addition, as Roland Barthes said once that photograph showed "Now and Here", photographers record the real scenes or create a unique world based on their imagination beyond the visible range. In the latter case, the photograph reinterprets and reproduces what things are. However, the visual re-interpretation of the invisible world by photographers is the image of the invisible word, the new image of the world that is felt in the same times and the image where our past, present and future coexist. ● Gabor KASZA(Hungary) His series 「Y」 establish the situations focusing on the composition for his imaging. His photography deals with the humans and the humans in our times, the fundamental and controversial issues; arouses our attention; and interprets the turning point of human history in his own ways. The works of Gabor KASZA present the look of humans who continue to transform the environment, as well as the dreams and fears. He also draws our attention to our ways of life which can be consciously chosen and the accompanied responsibilities and, furthermore, lets us explore our identity and look back on our life with critical mind against the society. ● Paul SCHNEGGENBURGER(Austria) His series 「The Sleep of the Beloved」 shows the images of the sleep of lovers in the space he produced through the prolonged exposure to 6 hours. His series 「The Sleep of the Beloved」, based on his curiosity about the sleep of people, aims to find the link between the emotion of lovers and the places for lovers. The images, created in his curiosity about what will happen when the lovers are asleep, whether tenderness is expressed while they are asleep, whether they turn their back to each other, or they are linked with something, are the results of his exploration about the unconscious. ● Katarina BELKINA(Russia) She sees humans as the creatures prowling to find a link with the universe. To her, modern cities are artificial and materialistic, and the space where loneliness and emptiness co-exist. She reproduces the look of modern people living in these places with her unique touch and processes them into the new images. The world urbanized in this way is artificial and materialistic and the humans who are a mere point in the world constructed artificially are likely to feel as if they are just abandoned. Katarina BELKINA tries to express in her works these inner questions and answers about how she lives and feels in a city as a human and how she lives and feels herself as a woman in a city. Through her eyes, big cities have created a new type of human being. And there remains only consciousness about the link with the truthful universe. ● Seung Hee HONG(Korea) Her series 「The force for the depth」 represents the meaning of the forced and coerced depth in a space. In other words, she expresses the unintended momentary situation through reflecting the look of daily life and imagining the directed situation. The spaces she created look very strange and the scenes finished with mystery wrinkles give strangeness and mystique. The trace of wrinkles felt in the objects in our everyday life are highlighted in her virtual space and represented in the depth of life. In other words, she remembers the moment she felt in the objects in our everyday life and reproduces those scenes in the real world through her unique ways. ● 『Crossover, 3+1』 will exhibit the works of the artists who realize a variety of photography in today's contemporary world and are absorbed in their works, and open our senses and imagination, as if it opens Pandora's box. This is also an invisible world, that is to say a new image of the world felt in the same times and suggests another look of our diversified life. ■ Joanne Junga YANG
