An Effect In Vision

Artist Statement ● 이번 전시의 기본 방향은 이야기가 있는 다양한 형태의 정물 사진을 묘사하기 위한 것이다. 다양한 예술 작업과 독서는 정물 사진에 영감을 주고 독특하고 새로운 방향을 제시한다. 열정, 지적 호기심, 시각적 의미, 그리고 창의적인 훈련이 나에게 많은 도움이 되었다.

사물을 보다 주관적이고 은유적으로 표현함으로써 본질을 찾아 가려고 했고 미래에 대한 강박관념을 은유적으로 나타냈다. 무엇이 사실이고, 무엇이 허구인지에 대한 모호함을 표현하기를 원하였다. 이번 작업은 어떤 두려움과 책임감, 그리고 자의식의 본질에 대한 내 스스로의 모습을 이야기하려고 시작했었다. 예술가로서 나는 누구이고, 나는 어디에 있는지에 대한 재해석과 정의를 스스로의 물음을 통해서 찾으려고 시도하였다.

이번 작업을 효율적으로 하기 위해서 중세 시대의 예술을 서술한 예술 서적들로부터 많은 영감을 받았고 주관적이고 단편적인, 그리고 임의적인 내용을 포함하는 포스트 모던한 아이디어들을 더 많이 활용하기 위해 탐구하였다. 다양하고 단순한 소품의 사용과 시각적 효과를 가져오는 색, 안정감을 높여주는 구성은 작업의 완성도를 높이는데 활용되었다. 이번에 사용된 친숙한 개인 소품들은 나의 이야기를 재구성하는데 많은 흥미를 북돋아 주었다. 사물을 이용하여 독특한 재해석을 불러오는 정물 사진의 장르를 지속적으로 하고, 시각 언어의 확장적 탐구를 통해서 내적 심상의 표현을 전달하며 현대 미술의 예술적 언어소통의 가능성을 더욱 더 확장시키려고 노력하였다. ■ 이기동

My basic concept for this exhibition attempted to depict "still life" involving various forms of narrative strategies, using a object. ● Reading with various books from self discipline inspires me to create still life photography that goes in new and unusual directions. Passion, intellectual, visual and verbal wit, and creative discipline help my works for this exhibition. ● The still life conjures up subjective, metaphorical, and qualities. It can appear as a metaphor of obsession attitudes, a negative prospective. I want to express an ambiguous reality that exists between the imaginary and factual form. What is fact? What is fiction? In this approach, I became obsessed with my subject and began to address aspects of myself, including fear, responsibility and self-consciousness nature. For the first time, in this work, I found myself reinterpreting and redefining who I am and what I do as a working artist. ● In support of my work this exhibition, I drew inspiration from art history books, especially those that illustrated the art of the Middle Age. Also, I was interested in furthering my exploration of postmodernism ideas such as subjectivity, fragmentary, and arbitrary. These influences helped to guide my work, which is color, black & white, the use of various objects, and the overall anxiety that appears throughout. Another challenge for this work-through is to make profession quality and I try to reveals an insight in my mind. ■ LEEGIDONG
