Full of Love

두산갤러리 서울에서는 볼펜, 연필, 책 등 일상적인 사물들로 화면 전체를 채우고, 강렬한 색채로 표현하는 홍경택의 개인전 Full of Love 를 개최한다. 홍경택은 2010년 두산 레지던시 뉴욕 입주작가이며, 2010년 10월 두산갤러리 뉴욕 개인전에서 「펜」 연작을 선보였다. 이번 전시에서 신작 한 점과 함께 전시되는 「펜3」는 2000년부터 10년에 걸쳐 완성한 8m 크기의 대작이다. ● 홍경택의 회화는 치밀하고 조직적인 균형을 이루는 평범한 물체들을 본래 재질이 가지고 있는 가벼움을 넘어 폭발적인 생명력을 가진 유기체로 변형시킨다. 화려한 색채와 매끈한 질감의 필기구들이 마치 무한 증식하듯 화면을 여백 없이 꽉 채운다. 과장된 크기와 색채, 여백이 부재한 그의 그림은 현실에서 파생되는 강박의 극단적 표현이며 현대 사회의 편집증적 성향을 반영하고 있다. ■ 두산갤러리

DOOSAN Gallery is pleased to announce Full of Love, a solo exhibition by Kyoung Tack Hong, whose powerfully colorful paintings capture daily objects like pens, pencils and books that fill the entire surface of the canvas. An artist-in-residency at DOOSAN Residency New York for the second half of 2010, Hong exhibited Pen series at his solo exhibition at DOOSAN Gallery New York in October 2010. In this exhibition he presents Pens 3 and his recent work. A painting measuring 8 meters in size, Pens 3 took ten years to complete since 2000. ● Ordinary objects form elaborate and systematic balance in Hong’s paintings, transcending the lightness of their original material and transforming into organisms with an explosive sense of vitality. As they fill the entire picture plane with their dazzling colors without missing any spot in a way as if they infinitely multiply themselves, unfamiliar landscapes emerge. The lack of empty space and exaggerated size and colors in Hong’s paintings are an intense expression of the obsession that derives from reality, as well as a reflection on the modern people’s obsessive propensities. ■ DOOSAN Gallery
