발견되고, 수정되고, 제시되어진 ● 권남희의 작업들은 우리가 예술에서 중요하다고 생각해왔던 유일성이나 탁월한 기법, 묘사력을 드러내지는 않는다. 이들은 기존에 있는 교통 표지판, 영화티켓, 안내문 등과 같은 발견된 사물들(found objects), 혹은 일상에서 종종 접하게 되는 하지만 무심코 흘려버리는 기호와 문구들로, 작가에 의해서 선택되어 전시장과 전시의 공간 속으로 제시된 존재들일 뿐이다.

「Transparent Process」(2010), 「안개지역」(2007)과 같은 작업들은 발견된 사물들로, 내용과 형태는 그대로, 크기만 변화되어 전시된다. 「Quiet World」(2001), 「I am safe」(2001)는 기존 안내판의 형식을 빌려 왔지만 그 문구는 작가에 의해서 수정되었다. 「-3-」(2011)의 경우는, 평면인 종이 인쇄물에 등장하는 페이지 번호가 입체적인 네온사인의 형태로 변형되어 전시공간 속으로 들어온다. 그리고 이렇게 권남희가 선택하고, 수정하고, 또 변형시킨 존재들 앞에서, 관객들은 어리둥절해 하거나, 곤혹스러워 하거나 또는 공감하는 등, 그 경험을 통해 작품의 완성에 참여한다. ■ 김동현

found, modified, and suggested ● Nam-Hee Kwon's works are nor shaped or constructed by the artist's own hands. They are rather found objects extended, from a signpost at the traffic road, ticket stubs from the movie theater, further to a number of a page or even common speaking expressions in language. 「Transparent Process」(2010), 「Foggy Area」(2007) are found objects, only their size changed. In case of 「Quiet World」(2001), 「I am safe」(2001), they borrow the forms of traffic signs, though their instructions are modified by the artist. As for 「-3-」(2011), it is the sign which indicates a page number but here it takes the form of a neon sign which decorates streets and the world. They are found, modified, and suggested by Nam-Hee Kwon, and finally being completed when their viewers react--being frustrated, questioned, or sympathized--to them. ■ Kim, Dong-Hyoun
