2012년은 한국과 중국이 수교(1992년)를 맺은 지 20주년이 되는 해이다. 인천공항에서 한 시간 남짓이면 다다를 수 있는 거리에 북경수도공항이 위치하고 있다. 중국과 한국은 수교 이후 전분야에 걸쳐 비약적인 발전이 이루어 졌다. 경제지표상의 숫자만이 아닌 문화교류 방면에서는 수많은 행사가 열리고 있다. 일 예로 서울에서 유행하는 노래·드라마·패션 등이 중국에서 거의 동시에 유행이 되고, 연예인 등이 유명세를 타며 한류열풍이 중국에서 회자되는 것이 결코 낯선 일이 아니다. 더불어 미술분야에서는 2000년 이후 중국의 블루칩 작가를 중심으로 한국에 집중적으로 소개가 되었고, 수많은 전시 및 중·한, 한·중 교류 전 또한 수없이 진행 되어 중국 유명작가 작품을 모르는 한국사람이 없을 정도가 되었다. 교류 전은 수십 명 이상 참가의 대규모 행사로 진행되는 것이 당연시 되고 있는 것도 사실이다. 이러한 현실에서 요란한 기념행사 중 하나보다, 이웃국가이자 다분야에서 번영의 동반자로써 함께 해야 할 이전 역사 교류의 5000년, 이후 교류의 5000년을 기약하며 작지만 내실 있는 미술문화행사를 개최하고자 한다. 문화는 그 나라의 시대상을 대표한다고 한다. 2012년3월을 전후하여 중국 미술을 이끌고 있는 대표주자로써 중국내외의 주목을 받고 있는 작가들과 한국의 대표작가들을 통해 이들의 시선에 비춰진 오늘날 한국과 중국, 중국과 한국을 세계미술의 대명사로 급부상한 798예술구에서 조망하는 기회(전시명: NOW! KOREA! CHINA! 2012! (한·중 현대미술 그룹 전))를 가지고자 한다.

전시에 대한 이야기... ● 오랜신화에서 현실이 되어버린 그래서 아무도 주목하지 않고 잊혀져 버린 이야기가 있다. 근대 이전 인류(人類)는 절대적(絶對的)이고 신격화(神格化)된 자연(自然)의 지배하에 자연의 일부로 보잘것없는 종속대상일 뿐이었다. 근대에 들어와 인간이 '이성'에 눈뜬 후 과학의 발달과 더불어 인간의 역사에 있어 '인간의 이성'은 인간의 존재에 새로운 가치를 부여하게 되었고, 인간은 자연으로부터 분리되어 자연을 지배하는 주체로 등장하게 되었다. 나약한 존재로 이던 시절을 지나, 계몽주의(啓蒙主義)의 핵심인 인간의 이성에 모든 학문과 지식의 기초를 두고, 논리와 근거로써 과학적 해명을 추구한 이후 큰 변화를 맞이하게 되었다. 자연 현상이 설명할 수 없는 신의 영역이 아닌 극복할 대상으로 변경이 되었기 때문이다. ● 인간의 이성에서 출발한 근대의 합리주의가 주춧돌이 되어 많은 발전을 가져왔다. 그러나 오늘날까지 인간의 이성이 이루어 놓은 것은 무엇인가? 어느 정도 문명의 발전과 물질적인 풍요는 이룩했을지는 몰라도 인간성의 상실, 파괴되는 자연, 오염된 환경이 남았을 뿐, 인간의 이성과 논리로써 해명할 수 없는 일들이 너무도 많다.

일례로 지구온난화 현상은 이상기후를 발생하게 해, 온 세계가 그 후 폭풍에 몸살을 앓게 하고 있다. 극지 빙하가 매년 눈에 띄게 줄어들고, 해수면의 상승과 온도 상승으로 인한 자연생태계 파괴는 서막에 불과하다. 자연생태계만이 아닌 문명사회는 어떠한가? 인간의 자아가 만들어낸 놀라운 발전의 이면에는 인간 개개인의 자유의지는 없어지고, 더욱 획일화된 사회상으로 변모해가고 있다. 매스미디어와 통신, 교통의 발전은 전 지구를 하나로 아우르는 많은 이점에 반해, 하나의 사건이 실시간으로 전파되어 모두가 공감하게 되어 하나의 사상(思想)과 사조(思潮)로 트랜드(Trand)를 지배해 인종과 국경을 넘어 획일화 하고 있다. 급속한 디지털화는 전쟁과 재해로 발생하는 사망과 사고를 전자게임에서 발생되는 일상적인 일로 변모시켜 인간의 감각을 무디게 만들어 내고 있다. ● 우리주위에 있는 너무나 흔해 무관심하게 지나칠 수도 있는, 작고 사소한 것들에서 일상의 재발견을 통해 다시 재조명 할 기회를 가지고자 한다. 지금은 망가지고 색 바랜 낡은 유년시절 장난감과 동화책 등, 작고 당연시되어 잊혀졌던 수많은 사물들에서 새로운 재창조를 통해 현실을 도외시 할 수 없는 우리가 지금 체험하는 사회적 현실과 이상에서의 충돌과 충격의 산출물을 현대미술이라는 이름의 작품으로 중한수교 20주년을 맞이해 양국을 대표하는 작가들로 하여금 각자 개성으로 풀어 끌어내 보고자 한다. ■ 이장욱

Now! China! Korea! 2012! – Contemporary Korean and Chinese Art Exhibition ● For 5,000 years gone by, and another 5,000 to come 2012 is the 20th year of diplomatic ties (1992) between Korea and China. The Beijing Capital International Airport is within an hour's flight of Incheon International Airport. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, relations between the two countries have developed in many fields: economic indicators show an upward movement, and numerous events have occurred in cultural exchange. Songs, drama, and fashion in vogue in Seoul come into fashion in China simultaneously. It is common for Korean entertainers to be widely known in China, and Hallyu - The Korean Wave sweeps across China. ● Since 2000, China's bluechip artists have been introduced to Korea, where numerous exchange art exhibitions have been held. As a result, most Koreans know of Chinese celebrated artists. The exchange exhibitions took place as large events in which dozens of artists took part. In this context, I would like to present a small yet substantial artistic, cultural event rather than a superficial commemorative event, sharing 10,000 years' past and future exchange between the two nations, as neighboring states, and partners in prosperity. ● A country is represented by its culture: the contemporary Korean and Chinese art exhibition, Now! China! Korea! 2012! to be held in March 2012 in the 798 Art Zone, a global artistic hub, will shed light on Korea and China today through leading Korean and Chinese artists who draw worldwide attention. ● Talking about exhibition : Impulse & Impact There is a forgotten story nobody notes because it was mythic but now realistic. Before modern times humankind was subordinated to nature under its absolute domination. Nature was like an absolute god, but humans were trivial as part of nature. With the development of science reason has become a new value to human beings, and humans emerged as subjects governing nature, separate from it. Human beings underwent great change through scientific logic and grounding, basing all study and knowledge on human reason, core of the Enlightenment. Natural phenomena have become objects to overcome from indescribable occurrences in the divine sphere. ● Modern rationalism from human reason has been a stepping stone for great advance. But what has it accomplished? Although reason was conducive to civilization's growth and material abundance, there are many problems we cannot solve with reason and logic alone: loss of humanity; destruction of nature and contaminated environments. ● The world suffers abnormal climates caused by global warming. The destruction of the ecosystem caused by temperature rises and melting of glaciers; the rise of the sea level is just a prelude to bigger disaster. What about civilized society? With progress derived from the human self, individuals increasingly lose their will as society becomes standardized. As the development of mass-media, communications, and transportation, has combined the globe into one, trends are governed by single thought and idea, and the world conforms to a standard in disregard of race or border. Human senses become dull due to digitization that makes people regard death by war, disaster, and accident as daily events. ● I'd like to shed new light on the trivial in daily life so common and thus often overlooked. These numerous things not forgotten include now damaged and faded childhood playthings and fairy tale books. To mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between South Korea and China, this exhibition displays work created by representative artists from the two nations interpreting clashes between reality and the ideal, which they have experienced. ■ Lee Janguk

NOW! KOREA! CHINA! 2012!(中韩现代美术群展) - 回望5000年、展望5000年 ● 2012年是中韩建交（1992年）20周年。从仁川机场飞一个多小时，就可以抵达北京首都国际机场。中韩两国建交以来，在各领域带来了飞跃式发展。不光是经济上的交流，文化方面也举行了很多活动。比如说在中国和首尔之间，基本上流行歌曲、电视剧、时尚、演员等都是处于同步的状况，韩流的话题在中国已经不是新鲜的事情。而且2000年以来在美术领域，中国明星艺术家在韩国被集中介绍。并且举办了无数次展览，其中包括很多次的中韩、韩中交流展，中国著名艺术家及作品在韩国广为人知。当然，数十名艺术家参加的大型交流展也很多，两国间也有不少具有纪念意义的活动，相比之下本次美术文化群展规模虽小，但希望能称为蕴含实质内容的一个展览。中韩两国是邻国也是在各领域求共同发展的同伴，通过本次展览两国将共同回望交流过的5000年，更期盼之后要一起度过的下一个5000年。文化代表的是一个国家当时代的面貌，2012年3月之时将汇聚引领中国艺术，并且最受瞩目的艺术家和在韩国最具代表性的艺术家，在迅速成为世界美术的代名词的中国798艺术区，展示他们引领出的中国和韩国的当时代的面貌。特举办名为 『NOW! KOREA! CHINA! 2012!（中韩现代美术群展）』 的展览，这次也会是一个将798艺术中心带来一种光芒的展览。 ● 谈话的展览：冲突与冲击 早期的人类是在绝对神格化的自然支配下，也是做为自然的一部分而存在。进入到现代社会的人类对"理性"产生认识后，在人类历史科学的发展中，以"人类理性"的人提供新的价值观念的存在，并作为一个实体已经从人性自然的统治中独立出现。经过一段脆弱的时代后，启蒙主义称为人类理性和所有科学知识的重要基础，它的逻辑成为一个大的变化的基础科学，它是对一些神的领域也无法解释的自认现象的一种克服。 ● 人类理性是源于现代理性主义的基石，促进了许多进展。然而，直到今天，实现人类理性了的东西又是什么呢？在一定程度上讲它实现了物质繁荣和文明的发展，但它可能也是人类的损失－自然破坏－只剩一个污染的环境，对于人类理性和逻辑不能解释的东西太多了。 ● 例如，全球变暖引起的气候持续一年以上，整个世界将要遭受风暴的袭击。极地的冰层每年明显减少，这些的发生是由于海平面的上升和温度的上升，也这些也只是自然生态系统的破坏的序幕。不遵循自然生态系统的文明会是什么样的呢？人类自身惊人的发展使人类自由意志逐渐消失，成为一个同一化的转型社会。大众媒体、通讯和世界各地的交通发展，一方面拥有许多的优势，可以将一个事件瞬时传播，使思想和思潮按一种趋势在各人种、社会和国家中同一化的传播。另一方便，在快速的数字化发展中，战争、灾难、死亡和所有发生的事情可以在电子游戏中产生，它改变人们，并给人们带来沉闷感。 ● 通过这展览我想重新审视我们忽视的周围那些日常细节中的新发现。小女孩的发夹、饼干的碎片或者破旧的玩具，从中我们可以挖掘新的创造因素，在我们经验的现实和理想的冲突这种大的命题下统观现代美术。从这个主题出发，在这中韩建交20周年的时期里，通过两国的艺术家的艺术作品来诠释各自所理解的冲击与冲突。 ■ 李章旭
