GOLDEN DAYS 황금기

금으로 펼친 현대 미술이야기 ● 롯데갤러리에서는 권선, 김승희, 김윤재, 오은희, 조광필, 차영석, 한상윤 작가가 참여하는 "Golden Days_황금기"展을 기획하였습니다. 고대부터 현대에 이르기까지 수많은 상징이 존재해왔으며, 그 상징들은 모든 의미와 가치를 담고 있습니다. 우리는 '금'이 가진 상징성-부, 행복, 불변성, 영원성에 주목하여 다양한 의미와 가치를 되새겨 보고자 합니다. 나아가 인생에서 최고의 가치는 무엇이며 진정으로 이루고자 하는 것은 무엇인지를 다시 한 번 떠올려 볼 수 있는 기회가 될 것입니다. ● 황금기는 흔히 문명의 진보가 절정에 이르러 사람들이 행복하다고 여기는 시대를 일컫습니다. 그렇다면 변하지 않는 영원한 가치를 위해 작가적 열정을 뜨겁게 불태우고 있는 여기 일곱 작가에게 황금기는 지금이 아닌가 싶습니다.

권선 작가는 본질이 어떤 식으로 형성되고 변화되며, 어떤 상황으로 소멸되는가에 초점을 맞춥니다. 이는 역설적으로 상호 작용을 통해 영원한 가치를 생성해 나가는 과정인 것입니다. 김승희 작가의 도시는 빠르게 변해가는 현대 문명의 이기 속에서 불변의 가치를, 인간의 삶과 희노애락이 고스란히 내재하고 있는 살아 숨 쉬는 공간을 담아내는 것입니다. 김윤재 작가의 조 각은 사라진 것, 소멸해가는 것에 대한 안타까운 심정을 담고 있습니다. 산수(山水)와 인체의 결합을 통해 자연에 대한 경의를 표현한 것입니다. 오은희는 견 위에 니금으로 실선을 그려 끊임없이 표면에 형상해 나갑니다. 이는 간과되어서는 안 될 무언가를 드러내기 위해 금을 소재로 표현해 낸 것입니다. 금이라는 화려함에 빠져 놓치기 쉬운 이면의 내용에 귀를 기울여야 할 것입니다. 조광필 작가는 영원한 아름다움을 직설적으로 영원히 시들지 않는 꽃으로 그려냅니다. 영원한 것은 없다는 말이 작품 앞에서는 무색하게만 느껴집니다. 차영석 작가가 세밀하게 그려내는 정물들은 우리 삶 깊숙이 존재하는 너무나 친숙한 사물들입니다. 작가 개인의 취향에 따라 수집된 사물들은 건강한 정물이라 일컬어지며 화면 안에 옮겨짐으로써 또 다른 가치를 부여받게 됩니다. 한상윤 작가의 작품에서는 돼지, 금이 갖는 공통된 상징성을 가지고 부와 재력으로 삶을 즐기는 낙천주의자의 모습을 유쾌하게 표현합니다.

누구에게나 한 번쯤은 인생에 금 같은 시간, 황금기는 찾아오기 마련입니다. 이는 각기 다른 형태로 다가옵니다. 어떤 이는 부 와 권력으로부터 인생의 최고점에 있을 수도 있으며, 어떤 이는 명예 또는 누구도 해보지 않은 사랑의 경험을 갖습니다. ● 본 전시에서는 '금'이라는 공통된 소재를 사용하여 각기 다른 내용의 이야기를 써내려 가는 작가의 작업을 통하여 우리의 지나 간 인생을 회상하거나 앞으로 다가올 자신만의 찬란한 황금기를 기대해 볼 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것입니다. ■ 롯데갤러리

The Tales of Art through Gold ● Lotte Gallery presents Golden Days, an exhibition bringing together works by Kwon Sun, Kim Seunghee, Kim Yunjae, Oh Eunhee, Cho Kwangpil, Cha Youngseok, and Han Sangyoon. Throughout history there have been many symbols - from ancient to modern times - all with their own connotations and values. Noting the symbolic connotations of gold – wealth, happiness, invariability, and eternity – we examine its diverse meanings and worth. This exhibition will be a good opportunity to consider what the best values are in life and what we really want to attain. ● A dictionary definition of 'golden days' is an age when people feel happy, and at the apex of civilization. For the seven artists, it is the present, during which they have all towards eternal values. Kwon Sun focuses on how true nature is formed and changes, and in which situations it extinguishes. He concentrates on the process of creating eternal worth through interaction. Kim Seunghee's concern is for encapsulating invariable values in urban space, making the city a breathing, living space bearing joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure in life. Kim Yunjae represents his regret for the vanishing and extinguishing, expressing his respect for nature through amalgamations with the human body. Oh Eunhee gives form to the surface of silk with thin lines expressed through gold dust, revealing something that should not be overlooked, focusing our attention to the soul of content often missed due to the flamboyant appearance of gold. Cho Kwangpil intuitively portrays everlasting flowers, alluding to eternal beauty. His work overshadows the idea nothing is eternal. Cha Youngseok's detailed still-lifes are of familiar things he collected as a hobby, called 'healthy still-lifes'. He adds value to these things by moving them to his canvas. Han Sangyoon's work using common symbolism of swine and gold cheerfully represents an optimist who enjoys life, wealth, and financial power. ● Everyone can have golden days once in their lives. They come in diverse forms. One's life may involve wealth and power, or it may find the highest honor in love. This exhibition recollects our past lives and anticipates our own brilliant golden days through work by the artists who convey diverse narratives with gold. ■ Lotte gallery
