Still-Life

1. ● 모든 사물을 그 이름과 쓰임새마저 잊고 바라본다면, 누구나 일상적인 사물 속에 숨어 있는 조형미와 추상성에 감탄하게 될 것이다. 추상성이라는 것은 어쩌면 우리 주변의 구체적인 물체들 모두에 이미 완벽히 실현 되어 있는지도 모른다. 내가 그리는 물체들은 이름을 갖고 있지 않다. 그것은 단순한 '덩어리'이다. 나는 관객이 내 그림 속에서 물성(property of matter)을 충실히 느낄 수 있게 되길 바란다.

2. ● 나는 실존적 물질세계의 투박한 힘에 관심이 있다. 그것은 몸으로 부딪혀 느껴지는 세계이다. 하지만 유물론적 관심은 아니다. 내가 물질에 관심을 두는 진짜 이유는 물질이 물질 너머의 형이상학적 세계로 들어가는실마리가 될 수 있다고 생각하기 때문이다. 물질을 통해 정신성에 도달하는 것은 비교적 안전한 귀납적 방법이라고 생각한다. 그런 의미에서 내가 그리는 물체들은 하나의 '기호'이다. '문자'라고 불러도 좋을 것이다.

3. ● 내가 철저히 물질적인 물체들로 견고한 짜임을 만들고 색을 조화롭게 배열하면 거기서부터 노래가 흘러나오기 시작한다. 그 노래는 마음으로 들을 수 있으며, 사유의 공간을 창조하고 형이상학적 세계로 나아가는 문을 연다. 바로 여기가 물체가 기호화 되어 물질 너머의 세계로 우리를 이끄는 지점이다. ■ 황현승

1. ● Looking at every object without thinking about its name and use, anyone will be impressed with the beauty of figure and abstraction hidden in general objects. The abstraction might already be actualized completely in every concrete object around us. Things I draw do not own a name. They are simply just'things'.I hope viewers can fully feel the property of matter in my drawing. ● 2. ● I'm interested in practical and solid force in the existential material world. It is the world felt with the whole body, which is not to be seen as materialistic interest though. The real reason I lay my interest upon materials is that I believe the materials can be a key to the metaphysical world beyond the materials. I think, reaching spirituality through materials is a relatively safer inductive method. In such sense, what I draw is one of 'signs' or possibly, 'letters'. ● 3. ● Music is played as I create a solid composition and arrange the colors neatly with theabsolutely materialistic objects. The music is heard by heart, creates a private space and opens a door to the metaphysical world. At the very moment, the objects are symbolized to lead us into the world beyond the materials. ■ HWANGHYUNSEUNG
