괴물전: 유동하는 공포 Monster: Liquid Fear

일곱 살의 나는 어떤 종류의 무서운 영화도 마주 볼 수 없었더랬다. 화면 속의 괴물들이 튀어나와서 나를 공격할 것만 같은 공포가 나를 사로잡곤 하였던 것이었다. 37살의 나는 더 이상, 그 괴물들이 실제에 존재하지 않음을 알고 있다. 어쩌면 그것은 단지 나의 마음속에 똬리를 틀고 있는 환영에 불과할지도 모름을 알고 있는 것이다. 내가 알아채어버리고 만 것은 그런 영화조차도 실제의 우리 삶의 공포를 반영할 수 없다라는 사실이다. 심지어 낮과 밤의 일상적인 악몽조차도 그런 영화보다 더 공포스럽다는 것이 사실이었다. 우리 삶 속의 두려움들이 괴물을 만들어 내고 있는것일런지도 모른다. 혹은 다른 이들의 삶 속의 괴물을 보게 하기도 하고 말이다. 때론 우리가 타인들을 두려워하는 동안, 기실 우리맘속에 괴물들이 자라고 있는것일런지도 모른다. 우리는 우리가 속한 이 세상으로부터의 무수한 공포로부터의 경고를 받아오고 있다. 존재하는, 그러나 존재하지 않는!" 그것이 괴물과 공포의 실체일는지도 모른다. ■ 박승예

At the age of 7, I wasn't be able to watch any kind of creepy movies. I was so afraid monsters of those films would come out of screen, and just attact me as real. I am 37 at this moment, and I know those monsters don't exist, but may exist in my mind. What I've realize is that films can't never truly present the actual fear of our real lives. Even nightmares we have during at night, or takinf nap are much more scary than monster movies. Fear of our lives might creat monsters in ourselves, or make us to see monsters from the lives of others. Or, while we fear others, we might creat monster in our minds. We are always warned of fear of the world we belong to. Exist, but doesn't exist!" might be the true color of the monsters, and the fear. ■ PARKSEUNGYEA
