옥탑 방에 살고 있는 나는 나름 높은 곳에서 서울 하늘의 경치를 바라보곤 한다. 산의 곡선들과 반듯한 수직 수평의 콘크리트와 혼재되어 변종된 형태들의 이미지들이 나를 자극한다. 잘려진 풍경, 들어가고 솟아난 들쑥날쑥한 광경들이 마치 그래프처럼 내 눈에 들어온다. 대립적이면서도 상호 보완적으로 만들어진 그래프 같은 선들은 나의 작업에 중요한 영감이 된다.(2011.3)

칼집이 난 잘려진 풍경은 기존 가치에 새로운 가치를 개입시키는 모습처럼 보인다. 나의 화면은 어느 가치의 장단(長短)과 시비(是非)를 가리는 것이 아니라 이 두 가치가 충돌하는 광경에서 느껴지는 대립과 조화의 기운을 화면에 담아낸다.(2011.6) ■ 임희성

Transformed The Landscape ● I poured the image, material, the expression of colors, and the way of creation, taken from the form and spirit of the impression that I sensed from old ink wash paintings, into the canvas along with the spirit and energy of the age that I felt.(2010.2) ● I often look at the sky view of Seoul in my rooftop house. The altered images of the curves of mountains combined with vertical and horizontal lines of concrete buildings stimulate me. Cut and jagged sceneries that look like a graph catch my eyes. The lines are like a graph, created in a conflicting and at the same time complementary manner, and they become a pivotal inspiration of my work.(2011.3) ● The slashed scene looks as if a new value is added into the old one. It is not about discerning which is better or not, or right or false, but capturing the energy of opposition and harmony incurred from the conflicting moment of these two distinct values.(2011.6) ■ YIMHEESEONG
