카이안 비숍(미국) ● 위안과 쉼을 찾아서 이곳 한국에서 태어난 사람으로서 야투 레지던시 프로그램에 참가하게 된 것을 매우 기쁘게 생각합니다. 어린시절부터 나는 야외에 있으면서 자연을 경험하는 것을 늘 즐겨 왔습니다. 어린 시절 나의 집은 시골에 있었고 주위는 호수와 숲으로 둘러싸여 있었습니다. 자연에 머무는 것은 내게 늘 특별한 경험이었으며, 자연의 사물들을 미술 작업의 세계로 통합시키는 것은 나의 기쁨이었습니다. 한국을 방문한 뒤 처음 며칠 동안 야투 오피스 주변의 아름다운 숲을 오랫동안 산책하며 솔방울, 도토리, 그리고 연미산의 자연물들을 모았습니다. 그리고 이때 수집한 자연물로 침대 모양의 조형물을 만들었습니다. 나는 이 작품을 위안과 쉼의 처소로서의 자연의 예로 제시합니다.

제프리 프리트(호주) ● 성찰 자연 환경에 대한 성찰은 우리의 본성에 대해 더욱 깊이 생각하게 한다. 자연이 여러 가지 면에서 위협에 처해있는 지금, 우리가 무엇인가를 해야 한다는 사실은 분명하다. 야투 자연미술가협회는 나에게 예술가로서의 명상과 성찰을 하게하는 작품을 창작할 기회를 주었다. 한국의 오석烏石이 돌 그릇에 담긴 물에 반사되면서 매달려있다 그것은 칼인가? 단검인가? 아니면 돌로 바뀐 잎인가? 우리는 지금 고대그리스신화의 다모클레스처럼 머리 위에 매달려 떨어질 수 있는 칼 아래 있는 듯한 위험에 처해있는지도 모른다. 만일 우리가 우리의 삶의 방식을 바꾸지 않는다면 말이다.

루티 라비브(이스라엘) ● 지난 몇 년 동안 나의 미술 작업은 몇 가지 기본 규칙들에 의해서 지배되고 있는 자연 속의 방식들을 조사해 왔습니다. 이 기본 규칙들은 시공간 속에서 특히 프랙털 패턴 속에서 어떤 구조들과 변화들을 결정합니다. 나는 날마다 들에서, 정원에서, 그러한 패턴들을 봅니다. 그리고 이러한 과정들, 운동들, 그리고 바로 내 눈앞에서 일어나는 것처럼 보이는 변화들에 의해서 영향을 받으며 영감을 얻습니다. ● "공(The ball)"은 기본적인 단위와 유사한 패턴을 따라 만들어집니다. 그것은 한 개의 알밤과 함께 시작합니다. 그리고 그 둘레로 점점 더 많은 층들이 더해집니다. 마침내 대상물은 끊임없이 자랄 수 있는 커다란 알밤 형태가 됩니다. "공"은 자랍니다. 마치 내가 끊임없이 일하는 것처럼 시간과 공간의 차원에서 변화하면서 자랍니다. 일단 내가 작업을 완성하면 자연은 제 역할을 다하게 되는데, 이는 기본적인 재료들로 분해할 것입니다. 그것은 마치 엔트로피의 증가처럼 공간과 시간 속에서 다시금 변화하는 것과 같습니다. ● 이 "흐름"(Flow)의 작품 속에서 나는 자연에서 차용한 기본 형태들을 다시금 사용하여 시간과 방향 속에서 변화하는 운동에 감정을 주입하도록 배열하였습니다. 이 형태는 장소와 조화를 이루며 발전하고 주변에 있는 자연의 풍경과 통합됩니다. 시간이 흘러 그것은 분해될 것이며 처음에 시작된 자연으로 완벽하게 되돌아갈 것입니다.

kyan Bishop (USA) ● In Search of Comfort and Rest Having been born here in Korea, I am extremely pleased to return now to participate in the Yatoo residency program. Since I was young I have always enjoyed being outdoors and experiencing nature. My family's childhood home was in the countryside and was surrounded by lakes and forests. Therefore being in nature has always been a special experience for me ,and working natural materials is a unique pleasure that I enjoy incorporating into my art practice. ● During my first few days in Korea, I took long walks in the beautiful hills near the Yatoo office and collected pine cones, acorns, and other natural materials from Mt. Yeonmi I have used these materials to construct a sculpture that is designed to take the form of a bed. I view this work as an examination of nature as a place of comfort and rest. www.kyanbishop.com

Jeffrey Frith(Austrailia) ● REFLECTIONS Reflecting on the natural environment deepens our connection with our personal nature. At this critical time in our history when the natural environment is under attack from so many quarters, it is obvious that we need to do something positive. Yatoo Nature Art Association has provided me as an artist with anopportunity to create a work that inspires contemplation and reflection. The Korean Black Granite stone suspended above the reflecting pool is it a sword or a dagger, or is it a leaf turned to stone? Like Damocles in the ancient Greek story are we now the ones in danger, a sword suspended over our heads and liable to fall unless we change our ways?

Ruti Raviv(Israel) ● During the last few years my artwork has examined ways in which Nature is dominated by a few basicrules which dictate certain structures and changes in space and time, specifically fractal patterns. I see such patterns every day in the fields and in the garden, and am influenced and inspired bythese processes, movements and changes,which seem to happen right in front of my eyes. ● "The Ball" is built to resemble pattern-similarity to the basicunit. It starts with one chestnut shell, and by adding more and more layers around it,the object takes the form of large chestnut shell that can grow endlessly."The Ball"grows, changing in spatial dimensions and in time, as I continue to work. Once I am finished, Naturewould play her role, and it will disintegrate to basic materials, as it changes again in space and time, increasing entropy. ● In the "Flow" artwork I again use basic forms which are cut out of Nature and arranged to give the feeling of changing movement in time and direction. The form develops in accordance with the site, and merges with the natural scene it is surrounded by. Over time it will disintegrate and return completely to Nature where it began.
