New Reasons: 동시대 한국의 22인

동시대를 향한 새로운 관점을 지닌 22명의 한국미술가들이 참여하는 이번 전시는, 서구중심적 시각에서 아시아문화의 한 가닥으로 분류되는 '한국성'을 동시대적 감각에 의한 새로운 사유들이 새 세대를 통해 선보이고자 하는 것이 그 목표이다. 본 전시는 문화적 정체성, 자기문화의 재해석, 혼돈적 문화 등 다양한 이슈들을 담는다. 이렇게 작품에서 엿보이는 개별적 의미들은, 한국문화유산에 기반된 작가들이 참여한 이번 전시로 인해 의미의 확장을 일으키며 다문화화적 요소들을 생성한다. 이러한 요소들은 세계사회에서 통상적으로 인식되는 '한국적' 전형으로 부터 매우 이탈되어 있다는 사실에 주목하게 된다. ■ 아트플럭스

By 22 Korean and Korean-American artists with contemporary views, not the typical 'Koreaness,' not as a particle of diverse Asian culture, this exhibition purposes to embrace new perspectives to Korean culture in new reasons by new generation. ● The exhibition presents issues in cultural identity, re-interpretation of own culture, and identity crisis within contemporary culture by artists based on their Korean heritage but extended to broader meaning of it as multi-culturalized aspects. ● Throughout the works of these selected artists, the exhibition shows aspects of trans-culture like speaking about Korea in English as their second language. Such aspects would not be only far from stereotyped Korea, but also different from intentional representational Koreaness that might look authentic and exotic. ■ ArtFlux
