개막상영 및 반디상영 안내 ● 제8회 부산 국제 비디오아트 페스티발 개막상영을 8월 26일 금요일 오후 3시부터 시청자미디어센터에서 진행합니다. 비디오 아트의 현재를 가늠할 수 있는 국내경쟁작과 미국 뉴욕을 중심으로 세계적으로 활발한 활동을 하고 있는 비디오 아티스트 조승호의 영상작품이 상영됩니다. 개막상영 전에 필로아트랩의 주최로 신승민, 신상현 무용가의 비디오 아트댄스「Symmetry」가 오픈 퍼포먼스로 진행됩니다. 이 퍼포먼스는 변재규 작가의 비디오 아트 작품들에 공명하는 실험적 현대무용 공연입니다. 개막상영 다음날인 8월 27일부터 9월 2일까지 대안공간 반디 1층 전시장에서 공모를 통한 국내경쟁작 12편, 부산국제비디오아트페스티발 조직위원회가 직접 선정한 프랑스, 스페인, 미국, 터키, 이란, 이스라엘, 필리핀, 타이완, 일본 등 17개국의 해외선정작 25편, 조승호 특별전 7편이 상영됩니다.

제8회 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발 소개 ● 대안공간 반디에서 주최하는 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발이 올해로 8회를 맞습니다. 올해 이전의 명칭이었던 부산국제비디오페스티발을 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발로 바꾸었습니다. 8회를 맞는 이번 페스티발은 지역에서 상대적으로 미약한 영상미술에 대한 관심과 저변확대, 그리고 실험적 작업을 하는 작가들을 지원하기 위해 대안공간 반디에서 2004년부터 시작하였습니다. 지금까지 많지 않은 예산이었지만 독창적 영상언어와 우수한 감수성을 가진 국,내외 비디오 작가들의 영상작업을 소개하고 알리기 위해 많은 노력을 했고, 지역에서 상대적으로 소외되어 있던 영상미술에 대한 재인식과 관심의 확대 등 작지만 의미 있는 페스티발로 자리매김해 왔습니다. 올해 국내경쟁작 12편, 국외선정작 25편, 조승호 특별전 7편이 상영됩니다. 공모를 통한 국내경쟁작은 예년보다 조금 늘어난 73편의 작품이 응모되었습니다. 특히 올해 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발로 명칭을 바꾸면서 단편 영화, 뮤직 비디오와 같은 영상작품들이 현저히 줄어들었습니다. 심사의 기준은 "비디오의 매체성에 대한 이해와 그것이 작품이 던지는 주제와 어떻게 연관 맺는지를, 언어지각 방식이 아닌 감각의 확장으로써 비디오 매체를 얼마나 잘 활용하고, 관객들로 하여금 감각하게 하는지를, 그리고 그것이 동시대 예술적 표현방식의 하나라면, 동시대를 어떻게 바라보고 그 시선을 어떻게 드러낼 것인지에 대한 것들"(국내경쟁작 강선주 심사평 내용중)이었습니다. 이러한 기준 아래 이대일의 「People in the street」, 장서영의 「in the box」 2편의 우수작과 강지영의 「Rainbow Land」, 강하영의 「기록2010」, 강혁의 「66일간의 상처」, 김수연의 「친절한 국가씨」, 김은형의 「Fishing in the forest」, 서보형의 「날개 개미」, 임흥순의 「꿈이 아니다」, 장서영의 「box」, 허재훈의 「Be Happy, Everyone」, 헤나윤의 「익사2」, 10편의 선정작이 가려졌습니다. 해외선정작은 부산국제비디오아트페스티발 조직위원회가 직접 선정한 25편의 작품들이 상영됩니다. 프랑스, 스페인, 미국, 터키, 이란, 이스라엘, 필리핀, 타이완, 일본 등 17개국에서 선정된 작가들의 실험적인 비디오 작업을 통해 동시대 영상미술의 국제적인 흐름을 파악할 수 있습니다. 특히, 비디오아트의 매체적 특성을 질문하고 실험하는 작업들과 정치, 사회적인 이슈를 퍼포먼스, 파운드 푸티지, 애니메이션 등의 형식으로 직접적으로 발언하고 폭로하는 작업들을 선정하였습니다. 4회 페스티발부터 특별전을 마련하여 국내경쟁작, 국외선정작과 함께 상영하였는데, 올해 특별전은 미국 뉴욕을 근거지로 세계적으로 활발한 활동을 하고 있는 부산 출생의 비디오 아티스트 조승호의 단채널 영상들을 소개하는 자리를 마련했습니다. 조승호 작가는 복합적인 이미지 프로세싱과 음향의 콜라주라는 독특한 영역을 구축한 작가로 고도의 은유적 감수성을 선사하는 단채널 영상과 영상설치작업을 해오고 있습니다. 그간 해왔던 수많은 영상작업들 중에 이미지와 소리를 통해 다채로운 실험을 보여주는 7편의 영상작품이 상영됩니다. 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발은 작은 규모와 적은 예산이지만 8회를 맞는 동안 실험적 작업을 하는 국내외 영상작가들을 지원해 왔고, 페스티발 이후에 작가들의 작업이 다른 전시나 페스티발로 이어진 경우가 많았습니다. 가시적으로 바로 드러나는 성과는 아니지만 영상미술의 저변확대와 창작을 지원하기 노력해왔습니다. 제8회 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발에 많은 관심 부탁드립니다. ■ 부산국제비디오아트 페스티발

Information on the Screening of the 8th Busan Video Art Festival ● The opening screening of the 8th Busan Video Art Festival will be held at 3:00 pm in Busan Community Media Center on August 26th. Domestic competitive video works which are able to estimate the present of video art and the video works of Cho Seoung-ho who is the New York-based video artist and has been active internationally will be showing. From August 27th, the following day of the opening screening to September 2nd, 12 domestic competitive video works, 25 international video works of 17 countries such as France, Spain, U.S., Turkey, Iran, Israel, Philippines, Taiwan and Japan which were selected by the Organizing Committee of Busan International Video Art Festival and 7 video works of Cho Seoung-ho will be showing in the exhibition hall of Space Bandee on the 1st floor. The 8th Busan Video Art Festival ● In this year, the Busan International Video Festival changed into its title into Busan International Video Art Festival. This festival which is 8th by this year was initiated by Space Bandee from 2004 which focused and targeted on expand the base and interest on video art which is relatively vulnerable genre of art in local area and has a goal to support artists who create experimental works. Since then, we have tried to introduce the domestic and international video works which shows unique language of video and excellent sensitivity on a small budget, and have become as a small but meaningful festival considering our efforts and results such as recognition and expand of interest on video art. In this year, 12 domestic competitive video works and selected 25 international video works will be introduced. ● The number of entry of competition was 73 that increased little bit more than to the previous years. Especially, according to the change of the title into Busan Video Art Festival, the video genres such as short film and music video were decreased markedly. The judging criterion was "Understanding on Media Characteristics of video and how it is related to the theme, how well artist utilizes video as a means of extension of sense not as a method of linguistic perception, and whether the work will be sensed by audiences or not, and if it is definitely an expression method of contemporary art, how to watch the contemporary and how to expose this perspective." (Commentary of the judge, Kang Seon-ju on domestic competition). Under the these criteria, 2 excellence awards, 「People in the street」 of Lee Dae-il and 「in the box」 of Jang Seo-young and 10 selected works such as 「Rainbow Land」 of Kang Ji-young, 「Record 2010」 of Kang Ha-yeong, 「66days of hurt」 of Kang, Hyuk, 「My so much kind state」 of Kim, Soo-yun, 「 Fishing in the forest 」 of Kim, Eun-hyung, 「A winged ant」 of Seo Bo-hyung, 「It isn't a dream」 of Im, Heung-soon, 「Box」 of Jang, Seo-young, 「Be Happy, Everyone」 of Heo, Jae-hun, 「Drowning2」 of hennayoon were selected were selected. ● In the section of selected international video works, the 25 international video works will be included. Through the experimental video works of selected artists of 17 countries such as France, Spain, U.S., Turkey, Iran, Israel, Philippines, Taiwan and Japan, the opportunity which is able to evaluate the international flow of contemporary video art will be provided. Especially, the video works which ask the media characteristics of video and try to announce and disclose the political and social issues were selected. ● From the 4th of the festival, the special exhibition was arranged and has been introduce with selected international video works. The special exhibition of this year introduces the single channel video works of Cho Seuong-ho who was born in Busan and now is the New York-based video artist to show a unique confluence of complex image processing. He has been active in video works and video installation through sound collage and a highly metaphorical sensibility. The 7 video works which show the various forms with sounds and images among his numerous video works. ● A video art dance, 「Symmetry」 of the dancers Sin, Sung-min and Shin, Sang-hyun that hosted by PhiloArt Lab will be held in the opening screening of this festival as an opening event. This event is an experimental modern dance performance resonating through the video art works of Byun Jae-gyu. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for Lee Ji-hoon(Director of PhiloArt Lab), the dancers Sin Sung-min and Shin Sang-hyun of the open performance, and artist Byun Jae-gyu who provided his video works, and the judges Kang Seon-ju(curator of Busan Museum of art), Kim Man-seok(art critic) and Shim Jun-seob(media artist). And also thank you very much for every artists who entered for the domestic competition, the foreign artists to participate in without budget support, and Cho Seoung-ho who allowed us screening for special exhibition, Busan Cultural Foundation and all interested parties of Busan Community Media Center who supported us for the opening screening. ● Busan International Video Art Festival has been supporting domestic and international video artists on a small scale and budget for 8 years and after the show, the many works were likely to be connected to other exhibitions and festivals.
