Voyage of the Black Bird

두산갤러리 뉴욕에서는 7월14일부터 8월 13일까지 박윤영의 개인전 Voyage of the Black Bird를 개최한다. 박윤영은 드로잉, 시, 영화, 설치 등의 다양한 매체를 이용하여 개인적인 경험의 파편적 조각들과 실제 일어났던 사건 및 세상의 현상들에 대한 치밀한 조사를 토대로 "가상"의 이야기를 만들어낸다. 작가는 다양하고 은유적인 전달방식을 통하여 우리가 믿고 있는 "사실"의 진실성에 대해 의문을 던진다. ● Voyage of the Black Bird는 작가의 조카로부터 받은 유리구슬이 모티브가 되어 꿈과 현실을 넘나들며 전개된다. 작가에게 의미 있는 일련의 사건이나 물건, 음악, 책, 공연, 영화, 단순한 소음 그리고 일상적 경험들의 조합은 각각 단절되어 있는 듯 보이지만 유기적으로 연결된 특별한 이야기로 바뀐다. 과거, 현재, 미래가 혼재된 박윤영의 독특한 서술방식은 우연처럼 보이지만 결국에는 필연적으로 귀결되는 정교한 이야기를 관객들에게 들려줄 것이다.

박윤영 (1968~)은 이화여자대학교 동양화과에서 학사와 석사를 졸업하였다. 몽인아트센터 (2010, 서울, 한국), 아라리오 갤러리 (2007, 천안, 한국)와 인사아트스페이스 (2005, 서울, 한국) 에서 다수의 개인전 및 국립현대미술관 (2010, 과천, 한국), 아뜰리에 에르메스 (2009, 서울, 한국), 중국 국립미술관 (2007, 베이징, 중국), 리움 미술관 (2006, 서울, 한국), 유네스코 (2006, 파리, 프랑스) 등의 단체전에 참여하였다. 박윤영은 현재 서울과 캐나다에서 거주하며 활동하고 있다. ■ 두산갤러리 뉴욕

DOOSAN Gallery New York is pleased to announce Voyage of the Black Bird, an exhibition by Korean artist Yoon Young Park. Park is renowned for her distinctive interdisciplinary language using various media such as drawings, poems, sound, video and installation. Her works elaborate and appropriate seemingly unrelated fragments of episodes, music, novels, and objects she encounters. ● The point of departure in Park's works often appears coincidental. Yet every image and word contained becomes an important signifier. Voyage of the Black Bird begins with a diamond cut glass bead, a gift from Park's nephew who was seven years old at the time of the narrative. This casual event leads viewers to mysterious and strange roads that shift drastically—to a dream where they meander through a multi-layered structure. The story is organically crafted, intertwined, and superimposed with specifically researched data. As the various media and subjects transcend time and space, Park constantly traverses and blurs reality and imagination, communicating the universal phenomena and principles and questioning what is believed to be the reality. ● Yoon Young Park was born in 1968 in Seoul, Korea. She received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea. She has had solo exhibitions at Mongin Art Center (2010, Seoul, Korea), Arario Gallery (2007, Cheonan, Korea), and Insa Art Space (2005, Seoul, Korea). Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (2010, Gwacheon, Korea), Atelier Hermes (2009, Seoul, Korea), The National Museum of China (2007, Beijing, China), Leeum Samsung Museum of Art (2006, Seoul, Korea) and UNESCO (2006, Paris, France).
