Swimming in Media Space

두산갤러리 서울에서는 6월 11일부터 7월 2일까지 강은수 작가의 개인전 'Swimming in Media Space'를 개최한다. 이번 전시에서 강은수는 인터렉티브 미디어 테크놀로지를 이용하여 움직임에 반응하는 물의 이미지와 소리를 만들고 전시장 전체를 마치 물 속을 걷거나 유영하는 듯한 체험의 공간으로 만들었다.   따라서 전시장은 관객의 움직임을 통하여 끊임없이 변화하는 빛과 소리로 채워진 비정형적 공간이 되며, 작품은 관객의 몸과 유연하게 반응하면서 새로운 지각경험을 이끌어 내는 매개 역할을 하게 된다. 결과적으로 전시 공간은 단순히 작품을 감상하는 곳이 아니라 작품과 관객이 하나가 되면서 통합적 인식의 장으로서의 역할을 하게 되며 관객들은 이를 통하여 예술을 통한 새로운 소통 가능성을 체험해 볼 수 있게 될 것이다. 이번 전시기간 중에는 작가와 협업을 지속해온 무용수가 몸과 공간이 어우러져 하나로 표현되는 인터렉티브 미디어 퍼포먼스를 세 차례에 걸쳐 보여줄 예정이다.

강은수(1974~)는 이화여자대학교 서양화과와 동대학원을 졸업하고, 캘리포니아주립대학에서 미디어아트 석사 학위를, 그리고 워싱턴주립대학에서 미디어아트 박사 학위를 받았다. 갤러리 쿤스트독 (2010, 서울), 911미디어아트센터와 소일갤러리(2008, 시애틀), 인사미술공간(2002, 서울)등 7회의 개인전을 가졌고, 윙루크애시안미술관(2010, 시애틀), 경기도미술관(2008, 안산), ZKMax(2008, 독일), 코리아나미술관(2007, 서울), 르 큐브 (2006, 파리) 등 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. 현재 애크런 대학에서 뉴미디어아트 교수로 재직 중이며, 미국 오하이오에서 거주 및 작품활동 중이다. ■ 두산갤러리 서울

DOOSAN Gallery Seoul presents the solo exhibition of Eunsu Kang entitled 'Swimming in Media Space' from June 11 through July 2. ● Kang creates an experience of walking or "swimming" in a water-like space using interactive media technologies responding to human movements. ● The exhibition space is transformed into an atypical and flexible space composed of lights and sounds. This interactive space constantly changes in reaction to the body of the participant so as to function as a mediator to provoke a novel perceptive experience. ● As a result, the exhibition space is no longer only a place where one appreciates an art work as a viewer but a facility where one becomes a part of the art work itself as a participant. The visitors are invited to intuit a new possibility for mutual resonance through art. ● This exhibition is accompanied with three interactive dance performances in which the body of the dancer who has been continuously collaborating with Kang and the exhibition space assimilate into each other. ● Eunsu Kang was born in 1974 in Seoul, Korea. She received her B.F.A and M.F.A. from Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, M.A in Media Arts and Technology from the University of California Santa Barbara, and Ph.D. in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from the University of Washington. Her seven solo exhibitions have been held in various places including Gallery KunstDoc (2010, Seoul), 911 Media Arts Center & SOIL gallery (2008, Seattle), and Insa Art Space (2002, Seoul). Her work also has been invited to numerous group exhibitions around the world including Wing Luke Asian Museum (2010, Seattle), Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art (2008, Ansan), ZKMax (2008, Munich), Coreana Museum Space*C (2007, Seoul) and Le Cube (2006, Paris).
