전시공간 B-E에서는 각기 다른 분야에서 활동 중인 8명의 Creators (사진, 미디어, 회화, 디자인, 건축)에게 "How do you define habitat?"란 질문을 던지며 첫 번째 전시를 시작한다. B-E는 Becoming*이라는 생성 철학의 고찰에서 출발하였으며, 전시공간 자체는 변화하는 실체로서 다양한 특성의 패러다임을 담아낼 수 있는 대안적 공간을 구현하고자 한다. 건축, 디자인, 순수미술의 경계를 한정하지 않고, 교류를 통해 다양한 영역들 간의 새로운 관계 생성을 추구한다. 전시공간이 있을 거 같지 않은, 건축자재 시장이 밀집된 논현동 골목 한 켠에 전시공간이 계획 됐다. 장소가 가지고 있는 특징에 대해 생각했고, 거기에 모이는 사람들에 대해 탐구하기 시작했다. 우리가 살고 일하며 몸담은 이곳이 우리에게 어떤 의미를 가져다줄 수 있을까? 해비태트(Habitat)의 사전적 의미는 서식지로 생물의 개체들이 사는 장소로서 물리적 생활공간을 제공하는 장소이다. 또 혹자에게 해비태트(Habitat)는 고유명사, 무주택 서민의 주거문제를 해결해주는 국제적인 기독교 자원봉사 단체로 휴머니즘을 떠올리게 할 것이다. 우리가 삶을 영위하는 해비태트(Habitat)는 단순히 물리적 공간만이 아닌, 공존하는 것들 사이의 관계양상이기도 하고, 시간과 관계되어 축적된 경험의 장소이기도 하다. Habitats By 8 Creators에서는 8명의 다양한 분야의 작가들이 해비태트(Habitat)에 대한 정의를 내리고, 조형적으로 변주된 언어로 관람자와 대화를 시도한다. ■ 비-이 * becoming: 사전적 의미로 "철학에서, 사물이 어떤 상태로부터 변하여 다른 상태로 됨을 이르는 말"

Gallery B-E is starting its inaugural exhibition by asking 8 active creators from their various disciplines in photography, media, painting and architecture a single question, "How do you define habitat?" ● B-E has started from the consideration of the philosophy of Becoming. Its gallery space offers alternative implementation of space to accommodate various paradigms with different characteristics as a changing substance. B-E will try to form the "becoming" of novel relations among various disciplines by orchestrating the interaction through transformation beyond the boundaries of architecture, design and arts. ● Gallery B-E was planned in an unpretentious alley of Nonhyun-Dong where building materials market has clustered together. We thought about the characteristics of the location, the neighborhood and the people who swarmed around the alley and started asking ourselves a question, "What meanings can this place, where we work and live every day, bring to us?" ● Dictionary meaning of Habitat is an ecological or environmental area that is inhabited by a particular species of animal, plant or other types of organism, and offers the physical environment that surrounds (influences and is utilized by) a species population. For some people, it might even mean Habitat for Humanity which is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian ministry who provides a decent, safe and affordable place to live for people in need. The habitat where we live our lives is not just a physical space, but also an aspect of relations among what we lives together and a place of experience which has accumulated over time. ● At Habitats By 8 Creators, 8 creators from various disciplines define their own definition of habitat and attempt to communicate with an audience through formative variation of the language. ■ *becoming: In a dictionary meaning, (in the philosophy of Aristotle) any change from the lower level of potentiality to the higher level of actuality. ■ B-E
