Uninterrupted

Uninterrupted는 장소특정적 설치 작업으로, 윈도우갤러리 공간 한 지점의 바닥과 천정을 연결하는 나선형계단 그리고 그것이 무한히 반사되는 두 개의 반사체로 이루어진 구조물이다. 마치 층간을 오갈 수 있는 실제 계단인 듯 보이는 눈속임을 연출하는 작업이며 일루전의 효과를 극대화시키고자 모든 면이 반사되는 금속 소재를 사용하였다. 느닷없이 맥락이 없는 공간에서 나타나는 계단에서 기대하는 심리는 무엇일까? 그럴듯한 이미지일 뿐 사실은 어느 층으로도 이어지지 않는, 쓸모를 찾을 수 없는 계단에서 느끼는 육체적 좌절감, 공간에서 맞닥뜨리는 낯선 감정 같은 것을 불러일으키는 장치를 두고 나의 상상을 확장해본다. ■ 윤가림

Uninterrupted is a site specific installation work of spiral staircases that connects a point on the floor to the ceiling of the Window Gallery. It is composed of two reflectors which create illusionary infinities at each end. It creates trickery as if they are real, on which we can step up and down each level, and its metallic material maximizes the effect of illusion. What would be the psychology of expecting the staircase to appear in the incoherent space abruptly? It is only a plausible image that it actually continues nowhere. I am expanding my imagination based on the physical frustration that is found on its worthless staircase, and the installation which arouses strange emotion came across the space. ■ YOONKALIM
