미디어극장전 2부에서는 1부의 영상설치 작업을 선보였던 방식과는 다르게 극장 개념을 전격 이용하여 미디어작가들의 영상작업을 마치 극장에서 영화를 보는 것 같은 방식으로 싱글채널 작업을 접할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 또 더 나아가 아트스페이스 갤러리 정미소를 찾는 관객은 특정적인 날에 어떠한 특정작가의 영상작업을 만날 수 있는 기회를 제공하여, 한번 전시장을 찾은 관객들은 상영되는 작가의 작업 10편이상을 한번에 감상 할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 이번 전시에서는 무엇보다 한국의 미디어아트의 중심에 서 있는 14인의 작가와 한국의 비디오, 미디어아트 10년 이상의 역사를 그들의 작업을 통해 드러날 수 있도록 기획된다. 이번 참여 하는 김창겸, 김해민, 함양아, 심철웅, 김세진, 유비호, 한계륜, 신기운, 이진준, 안세권, 오용석, 박준범, 이배경, 박제성의 작가군은 80년대 중 후반부터 작업을 시작해온 비디오아트 1세대를 포함하여 디지털 매체에 급속도로 발전하기 시작한 젊은 작가군들까지 포함한다. 컴퓨터 기술을 통해 예술을 제작하기 이전의 아날로그 세대와 디지털세대에서 오는 작업의 접점을 찾을 수 있는 기회가 될 뿐 아니라, 한국의 미디어아트의 흐름을 특정 작가군들로 인해 메핑 해 볼 수 있을 것이다. 5월 14일 김창겸 작가를 시작으로 각 참여작가의 영상작업이 이틀 동안 한 장소에서 한꺼번에 상영되어 이는 무엇보다 90년대 중 후반부터, 2000년대 초, 중반에 많은 싱글채널 작업들이 소개되었다는 단초를 설명할 수도 있으며, 또한 그 시기의 작품들을 최근의 작품들과 함께 동시에 상영하여 그간 작가 작품의 사유와 사회적 환경이 얼마나 바뀌었는지 기록할 수 있는 기회가 될 것이다. ■ 이은주
