풀빛 바람에 개구리 뛰어오르고 그 옆 흐르는 물가에는 물방개 노니고. 일렁이는 푸른 들과 논밭. 신록(新綠)으로 물들고 생명으로 충만한 대지.

김성석은 우리의 고향 산천(山川)을 작품 속에 담는다. 그의 그림에서, 집과 나무, 산과 들은 변화감 있는 다양한 녹색, 그리고 노랑, 분홍의 색면들로 단순화되고, 완만하게 곡이진 선들은 한국의 산등성이와 논과 밭을 만들어낸다. 마치 하늘 위에서 내려다보는 듯, 어느새 원근법은 사라져 모든 것들은 균등해진 비례로 화면을 가득 채우고, 색상과 형상들의 대비가 만드는 시각적 율동감 속에 산천은 노래한다. ■ 김동현

Kim, Sung-Sauk's works are on view at Yeok-Sam-Yeok Gallery/ Daewoo Securities. He depicts the Korean mountains and streams with oil on canvas. In his paintings, there are plants, trees, rice fields, and crops of the season, all colored with the fresh green and filled with life. Houses and trees, mountains and fields turn into simple color areas of green, yellow, and pink, and the gentle outlines remind us of the curvy ridges in the Korean mountains and fields. The shapes and the contrasting colors catch our eyes and evoke an optical illusion, the waves of trees and plants. And there we realize that the perspective are vanished in the pictures and all objects turn into the even proportion, as if they are viewed from the sky. ■ KIM, DONG-HYOUN
