나는 여러 수단을 이용하여 다양한 형태의 시각적 수수께끼를 제안한다. 그 내면에는 자연미와 야생미에 인공미가 조화를 이룬다. 나의 작품세계는 이동성과 적응의 행위와 깊은 관련이 있다. 이를 통해 왜 사회적 영역과 인간의 습관을 연관 짖고자 한다. 정치, 신화, 사회, 지리, 인류학, 자연사적인 교차점에서 나는 현대적 이데올로기에 대해 물음을 던진다. 나는 계속해서 구체적인 지점으로 돌아온다. '다른 곳'으로 이처럼 이동하여 분명 두 시대 사이를 오가며 사고하게 된다. ■ 크리스틴 라께

개와 늑대의 사이 ● 땅거미가 질 무력 야외에는 두터운 소리가 무리를 이룬다. 이 때 학교 공터에는 십대들이 모여 밤의 운치를 느낀다. 베이스 기타 연주자는 거친 연주를 하며 무언가 찾아 헤맨다. Just before, was the Dorippe Granulata ● 이 단편영화는 코페르니쿠스설의 혁명이라고 일컬을 만한 동물 다큐멘터리이다. 퍼포먼스 작업에 가까운 이 비디오는 관조적이며 깊이 있게 빠져들게 만드는 초상화라 할 만 하다. 원자폭탄의 폐해 속에서도 꿋꿋이 살아남은 도립 그라눌라타(dorippe granulata : 백색의 게 일종) 앞에서 히로히또 황제는 회심의 미소를 띠며 만족해 하는 모습이 Sokurov 영화 「태양(The Sun)」에도 나온다. 손전등을 이용하여 게를 추격하듯 촬영하므로, 전등 빛에 소스라치게 놀라는 게가 모래더미에 경직되는 모습이 마치 사무라이 전사의 머리와도 같다.

속임수 ● 이 작품은 물속 풍경에 대한 경로(route)를 보여준다. 카메라는 하천에서 잠수하면서 천천히 돌아 움직이며 위협적인 동물이 나타날지 기회를 엿보며 매복하고 있다. 접근방식은 다소 머뭇거리기도 하지만, 누가 누구를 사냥하는지 알 수 없다. 인공과 자연의 공간 사이에서, 우리는 눈앞의 유혹에 잘 속지 않는다. 그럼에도 의심은 계속된다... Manguetown ● 「Manguetown」은 시대의 대표적 위인인 다윈과 아인슈타인을 두 주인공으로 한다. 그들은 브라질 북동부의 전통에서 영감을 얻어 연출한 거대한 거인 인형들이다. 두 명의 유명한 과학자들은 브라질로 여행을 가기로 한다. 1세기의 격차를 두고 있는 두 인물은 숲에서 만나 제, 사회, 정치적 변화를 겪고 있는 이 방대한 국가의 근대 역사에 경이로워 한다. 이들은 자신의 이론을 재고하며 마치 오랜 친구처럼 서로의 이론을 비아냥거리며 브라질의 북동부지역의 소요에 대한 도시적, 사회적, 생태적 묘사를 통해 관련 사태에 의문을 던진다.

마라부 ● 실제 촬영 사진과 3D 이미지를 혼합하고, 위협적인 동물과 사악한 인간의 이미지를 혼합하는 '황새(marabout)'는 우리의 통념을 깨고 아프리카 전통과 예식이 깃든 분위기 속에서 발견된다. 황새가 주인공인 이 영화에서 그는 마치 여러 장면을 장악하는 위용을 발휘한다. 여러 은유적 인물들의 행동이 하나로 관통되며, 황새는 인간의 손 위에 놓이게 된다. 황새가 인간이 되기 위해 노력하며 진화하는 모습을 담는 영화의 배경은 카사블랑카이의 큰 신전인 '핫산 2세 모스크' 내에서 촬영했다. * Marabout는 프랑스어 동음이의어로 신성한 '황새'와 이슬람교도의 '성자'를 이른다. 애국가 ● 타일랜드에서는 애국가가 공공장소에서 하루에 두 번 들린다. 국가가 울리면, 사람들은 모든 활동을 멈추고 애국가를 경청하며 똑바른 자세로 서야 한다. 나는 공원, 시장, 경찰서 앞 등 방콕에서 20번의 이 동원사태를 촬영하였다. 일 분 동안 꼼짝 않고 있는 신체들은 마이크 의식(micro-ritual)을 형성하며 전체가 하나의 안무를 만들어낸다.

분리수거 ● 분리수거라는 작품은 프랑스의 소도시 뽕투와즈에 있는 군사 건물이 예술창작지구로 지정되면서 2004년 로랑 뻬르넬과 크리스틴 라께가 했던 퍼포먼스이다. 일종의 불꽃놀이를 대낮에 행한 것인데, 소위 소모품으로 규정 되거나 시각적 기호의 기능을 할 수 있는 산업재료인 형광색 종이, 알루미늄, 플라스틱 같은 것들을 창 밖으로 날려보내어 길을 지나는 사람들에게 위험표시를 알리거나, 주의를 끌게 만든다. 부케를 날려보내는 이러한 행위는 시각적 공해를 양산하고, 우리가 던지는 재료들의 승화가 비로소 이루어진다. ■ 경기창작센터

Through a wide range of media, I propose different forms of visual enigma in which the natural and wild world keep close to the artifice. My approach and thought process are deeply related to the act of mobility and adaptation which explains why I like to make familiar bonds between the social sphere and the ritual habits. At the crossroads of political, mythological, social, geographical, anthropological and natural history, I question the contemporary beliefs. As a recurring step, I like to consider specific sites: this movement towards 'elsewhere' undoubtedly allows me to think by intersection, between two times, by transfer and exchange. ■ Christine Laquet   Between dog and wolves ● In the twilight, a thick sound floods in the outdoor area, while a group of teenagers carries out a night round in the vast ground of a school. Obviously in search of something, the vice is tightened on the inhabitant of a hut -a bass player- who plays in a sort of wild way for defense. Just before, was the Dorippe Granulata ● Near to the performance, this short film is a contemplative and penetrating portrait of a white crab: the 'dorippe granulata', already screened in a Sokurov film "The Sun", where the emperor Hiro-Hito felt in ecstasy. Tracked by the camera using a lamp-torch, the crab with the head of warrior samuraï solidifies on sand, surprised by the light on the slope. Lure ● "Lure" shows routes to the underwater landscape. The camer submerges in a river and slowly moves around to see any opportunities if threatening animals would appear. The approach is rather slow, but one cannot tell who is hunting whom. We are not easily deceived by the lures in front of our eyes in a space between the artificiality and the nature. Nevertheless the doubts countine on... Manguetown ● Manguetown is a short anachronical and metaphysical fiction in which the two principal characters, Darwin and Einstein are the giant puppets inspired by the canavalesque tradition of Northeast Brazil. Well-known scientists, these two "great minds" had likewise each made a trip to Brazil, close to a century apart from each other, they are meeting here in mangrove marsh. The recent history of this immense country in full economical, social and political mutation intrigued these two intellectuals. Through reconsidering their own theories, teasing each other as old friends, they pass through urban, social and ecological descriptions that question the state of chaos in the capital of Nordeste. Marabout ● Mixing real shots and 3D images, chimerical animals and sinister individuals, Marabout hustles our usual references marks and is distilled in an atmosphere inspired by popular African beliefs. The (bird) Marabout constitutes the main character, like a protagonist enjoying a considerable influence on the various scenes. The metaphorical characters connect actions trance state, while the animal is mislaid in the skin of human beings, the bird evolves in film trying to reach the state of being a human. The scenes are held in Casablanca, in the surroundings and inside the big Mosque. National Song ● The national anthem is played twice a day in Thailand. If so, all activities are stopped and people stand still to hear it. I shot 20 occasions of civil uprising in Bangkok in front of a park, a market and a police station. The bodies that do not move for 1 minute form a micro-ritual and everyone/thing creates a single choreography. Recycling ● The work "Tri Sélectif" is a performance done by Laurent Pernel et Christine Laquet in 2004 as barracks in Pontoise were designated as an art creation district. In the work, fireworks are played during daytime where florescent paper, aluminum and plastics designated as disposable items or those that can serve as visual signals are scattered outside the window to warn or attract the attention of passers-by. The bouquet flying event generates visual pollution, resulting in the sublimation of the materials we toss away. ■ GYEONGGI CREATION CENTER
