Once upon a time

이 작품은 고정된 카메라 앵글의 제한으로 이루어진다. 카메라 한 대가 계속 축을 중심으로 돌면서 방한가운데에 있는 기준점 위에서 촬영을 한다. 카메라 작동은 너무나 놀랍게도 이루어져 그 결과 코리타 슈니트의 작업으로 귀착되는데, 평범한 거실이 점진적으로 애완동물들로 점령당하고, 서서히 황폐화한다. 동화같은 이야기... 옛날에, 인간이 길들여지자, 그 동반자들이 문명화된 공간을 재정복하였다.

슈니트는 매우 정확한 영화촬영법에 기반을 두고 회화적인 언어를 적용한다. 이미지와 사운드는 상호보완적이다. 슈니트의 비디오에서 그녀가 만든 현장과 연출된 장소들은 사회적 가치와 코드의 완전한 시스템에서 개인을 어떻게 위치시키는지를 인상적인 방식으로 보여준다. 그녀는 소통의 의미와 상호작용을 다루며, 현대적 역기능에 대하여 표현한다. 그녀는 클리셰를 연출하고 작가가 관찰하는 사회적 가치 판단에 대한 인식을 유머러스하게 보여주며, 궁극적으로 우리에게 한번쯤 다시 생각해 보게 권유한다. ■ 경기창작센터

'Once Upon a Time' is also subject to the restrictions of a static camera angle. A camera that continuously revolves in an automated circle around its own axis is mounted on a base in the centre of a room. As surprising as the camera work is, so are the results that come to pass in Corinna Schnitt's video: an ordinary living roomis gradually taken over by "pets" and becomes desolated bit by bit. A fairytale-like story: Once upon a time when man's domesticated companions reconquered civilised space … ● Schnitt's works operate in a pictorial language based on a very precise cinematography. Image and sound complement each other. The locales and venues staged by Schnitt in her videos and which she presents in an impressive manner tell of the positioning of the individual in a complex system of social values and codes. She deals with the meaning of communication and interaction and often does this by representing its modern dysfunctionalism. She stages clichés and social value judgments which she observes with perception as well as with humour and ultimately encourages us to reflect upon them. ■ GYEONGGI CREATION CENTER
