흩어진 감정들이 숲을 이루고 있는 공간, café. ● 감정을 두고 떠난 수다쟁이들은 어디론가 사라지고 그 곳엔 구겨진 낙서거리와 얼룩진 찻잔과 기억들이 놓여있다. 나에게 까페는 혼자만의 독백으로 가득 찬 공간이기도 하고 친구나 연인과의 따뜻했거나 서늘했던 기억들이 뒤엉킨 장소이다. 누구에게나 까페는 감정이 배출되고 공유되는 장소다.

감정의 증폭을 유발시키는 장소와 대상을 기록하는 작업이다. 기억 속의 흔적들을 나열하여 그 안에서 확장되는 이야기를 무작정 그림 속에 널어 놓는다. 작업의 시작은 일상 속에서 솟아오르는 감정을 기록하고 싶을 때 사진 이미지로 수집된다. 그러한 자료들은 사실적인 재현의 토대가 되기도 하고 잊었던 기억을 반추시키는 객관적인 흔적들이다. 이 흔적들이 선별적으로 옮겨질 때 당시의 감정은 박제된 기억이 된다. ■ 양미연

Private portrait 연작에서 묘사된 인물들은 공간 안에 있는 감정을 발생하는 대상인 동시에 작가가 새로운 가상의 인물로 꾸며낸 독백이 사실화되도록 하는 매개체이다. 예를 들어 영화 속 무명 배우의 모습을 캡처하여 인물이 갖은 또 다른 가상의 캐릭터를 이용하였다. 그것이 함께 나열된 현실의 인물과 뒤섞여 작가의 개인적인 이야기를 독백하는 듯 하지만 또 다른 허구의 이야기로 연결시켜 사실조차도 허구로 보이게 만든다. 일상의 기억으로 구성된 허구적 독백이다. 허구이거나 사실일 수 있는 그들의 이야기가 제목에서 조금씩 암시되게 하였고 그들은 익명성을 띤 이야기 속 이미지이다. ■ 양미연

A space where in dispersed sentiments forms a forest, café. ● The chatterboxes leaving their sentiments behind have gone nowhere, and wrinkled papers scribbled and stained tea cups are replaced there together with some memories. To me, a café is a space full of my own monologues as well as a place where my memories of friends or lovers are harbored warmly or coolly. To everybody, a café is a place where sentiments are exhausted and shared. ● My work involves recording of the places and objects amplifying the sentiments. I arrange the traces of my memory and thereby, deploy the stories expanded there from into my painting inadvertently. I begin my work when I want to record the sentiments evoked in my everyday life, and then, collect them as photo images. Such data may form a ground for some realistic representation or become some objective traces for recollection. When such traces are selectively expressed, the sentiments at that time become some stuffed memories. ● The figures described in "Private Portrait" series are the subjects having their own sentiments and at the same time, the media making true to nature the monologues spat out by some new virtual figures created by myself. For example, some unknown actors or actresses were captured to create other virtual characters. They are mixed with the real figures to tell their own monologues, but even the facts seem to be fabricated because they are manipulated so. All in all, they are fabricated monologues consisting of the memories about the everyday life. So, they may be false or true. I managed to have their stories hinted gradually by the titles, and thus, they are the images in the anonymous stories. ■ YANGMIYOEUN
