신기루 Mirage

바라는 것을 먼저 떠올리게 된다. ● 신기루 현상은 흔히 비유하기를 메마른 사막 속에 오아시스의 환상을 발견하는 것으로 표현되기도 한다. 그것은 인간의 절실함과 절박감이 만든 허상이다. ● 그 순간에 인간은 희망을 걸어보지만 사실을 알고 난 후에는 희망의 크기를 넘어선 절망과 마주하게 된다. ● 나는 이런 신기루현상을 일상 속에서 보고, 느끼고, 체험하고 있다. ● 부를 갈망하는 자는 부에 관련된 일에 혼신을 다할 것이며, 명예를 중요시 여기는 사람은 명예에 관련된 일에 자신을 투자할 것이다. ● 그렇듯 누구나 자신이 원하는 관점으로 세상을 바라보고 느끼며 살아가고 있다.

그런 꿈과 바람이 더 커져 상상을 하게 되고, 더 나아가 어떠한 이미지 즉 본질과는 다른 허상을 만들어 내기도 한다. ● 하지만 그 허상을 넘어 본질의 의미조차 망각하게 되는 경우도 있는데 본질의 고유성을 무너뜨리고 왜곡시키려 하는 순간들이 있다. ● 마치 사막 속에서 발견한 오아시스가 환상이었다는 것을 인정하지 않으려는 듯이 자신이 만들어낸 이미지를 지키고 보호하려 한다. ● 이렇듯 상황과 관점에 따라서 하나의 이미지나 사물들은 본래의 뜻과는 다르게 해석되는 부분이 있는데 각자의 해석에 따른 차이가 아닐까… ● 존재하지만 존재하지 않는다고 부정할 수 없는 이미지 또한 신기루의 단편적인 이미지가 아닐까… ● 어떠한 재해석이 있더라도 본래의 본질을 잊지 않고, 그 생각에 따른 또 다른 의미들을 다시 한 번 재구성 해보려 한다. ■ 김해옥

We desire that which arouses our imagination. ● For example a mirage is depicted as the illusion of an oasis in the middle of a barren dessert. The illusion is one created by the mind in a sense of urgency and desperation. This illusion is the expression of our growing hope in the face of despair. Therein lies the rub; we are often limited in our ability to see the illusion once we realize it is, in fact, a mirage. ● Yet I see, feel and experience this mirage every day of my life. ● People, who yearn for money, get rich working for it and people who yearn for respect gain respect while pursuing it. ● As always people perceive the world on their own terms and through their own paradigms. ● However, in finding our own private oasis we cannot say that it is an illusion. We use the word mirage as an expression of our dreams and desires – that to which we aspire. ● People imagine a dream and strive to reach ever greater heights and to create something different, a new illusion, a new mirage that the thirsty traveler reaches towards. ● But beyond the illusion nature is forgotten and we find the truth that we are all searching for. ● Once we reach the desert oasis and discover that it is indeed a mirage we ignore the truth to protect our illusions. ● Thus separating truth from illusion can be a difficult task. We must always consider our perspectives and the way in which we interact with our perceptions and interpretations. ● Just because we know that the oasis is a mirage it does not mean that fragments of the mirage are not real. ● Although there is no interpretation without considering the original we will always try to reconstruct the original meaning with our own perceptions. ■ KIMHAEOK
