사적이지 않은 이야기 ● 사담은 김미량, 이현희, 주예지로 구성된 그룹이다, 사담(私談)이라는 뜻대로 3명의 작가들은 각자의 개성에 맞춰 '이야기'를 풀어낸다. 김미량은 칼과 오일 파스텔로 붓을 대신한다. 작가의 어린 시절의 놀이였던 오리기와 문지르기는 지금까지도 작가의 유희로 남아 붓 터치를 대신한 수많은 조각과 면을 만들어 낸다. 오리고 채워내는 행위는 개인적인 유희로만 종결되는 것이 아니라 기존의 풍경이미지를 새로운 느낌으로 마주하도록 한다. 파편화된 조각들과 색 면들은 이미지로 보이기 이전에 또 다른 조형감과 색감의 즐거움을 보여주며 조각들의 얽힘을 통해 강렬한 에너지를 뿜어낸다. 이렇게 완성된 다양한 풍경이나 명화의 이미지가 익숙하면서도 낯설게 보이는 이유는 이 때문일 것이다.

이현희는 너무나도 평범하고 단조로워 보이는 일상 속에서 누구나 마음에 품고 있을 법한 아주 사소한 일탈과 욕망에서 이야기를 시작한다. 어지럽혀진 여성적인 소재에서 만들어진 또 다른 공간, 그 안에서 발생하는 사소한 상상에서 작가의 작업은 구체화 되었다. 어딘가에 실제로 존재하였으면 하는 동화 같은 신비 공간이지만 그 곳에서 일어나는 사건들은 결코 다른 차원의 이야기가 아닌 우리의 이야기이며 아름답기만 한 이야기는 아니다. 관객은 작품을 마주하면서 스스로 전혀 다른 차원의 상상을 하고 있다고 느끼지만 화면 안의 사건들이 결코 낯설지는 않을 것이다.

주예지는 존재의 연약함으로부터 이야기를 시작한다. 두려움이라는 것은 사람이라면 모두가 가지고 있는 어떤 대상에 대한 마음의 거리낌이다. 일상에서 발생되는 두려움이라는 감정과 그로인해 발생되는 사건, 추상적 개념들을 서사화 시키는 작업이다. 두려움으로 다가온 사건의 행로를 되짚거나 그 정체를 상징화 시키는 작업은 개인의 사적인 이야기들을 담아내며 동시에 다른 문화적이고 사회적인 알레고리, 도상들과 만나 또 다른 상징체계와 이야기를 만들어 낸다.

사담의 이야기는 이렇게 사사로운 경험에서 출발한다. 이들의 출발은 지극히 사적인 관념이었지만 시각화된 이야기는 더 이상 사적이라고 할 수 없다. 각기 다른 이야기를 풀어내는 서술법에 주목해서 사담 그 이면의 내밀한 풍경을 읽어볼 수 있다. ■ Sardam

No more private story of Sardam ● The group of Sardam is composed of Miryang Kim, Hyunhee Lee, and Yejee Joo. Sardam means private story in English. These three artists paint the story with the uniqueness of each member ● Miryang Kim works with knifes and oil pastel instead of brush. The artist makes lots of pieces and faces with pleasant cutting and rubbing instead of the touch of brush, which used be the happy memories of artist when young. The cutting and rubbing acts are not ended only individual fun but lead existing landscape to create new image. The fragmented pieces, colors, and faces show the other pleasant aesthetic value and color sense before image on canvas, and give powerful energy through intertwined pieces. Cause of this reason, her finished various landscape or image of famous painting is seen to be familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. ● Hyunhee Lee begins her story from minor deviation and desire to break away from ordinary and routine life. The works of artist take concrete shape on the small imagination to happen in the other space made of messy and feminine material. Though that space is likely to exist somewhere like mysterious fairy tale, the affairs happened there is not different world but our story, and not only beautiful story. Visitors facing the masterpieces feel that they imagine the different world, however the affairs on the canvas will never be unfamiliar. ● Yejee Joo begins her story from effeminateness of existence. The fear is the hesitated heart against something, which everybody has. She describes the feeling of fear happening daily life, the affairs as a result and abstract concept. Working to remind the affair from fear or symbolize that identity put own private story and creates the other symbol-system and story with different culture and social allegory at the same time. ● Sardam stories begin from small experience like this. Even though their beginning start from private concept, visualized story is no more private. Through focusing on description of different story each other, we can read internal landscape of hidden Sardam. ■ Sardam
