미지와의 조우

이 전시는 마치 흩어진 파편을 모아둔 지하실 같다. 이것과 저것, 이 세계와 저 세계, 사이와 사이, 주인이며 손님, 이상과 현실, 그 모든 경계선에서 이방인으로 위태롭게 살고 있는 작가의 지난 작업들의 조각들이 벽에 붙어있다. 손에 든 무거운 도록은 잊어버리고, 구겨진 종이, 주머니에 있던 오래된 메모를 챙기는 기분이면 이 전시를 흥미 있게 볼 수 있다.

제 작업들은 스스로를 세상에 드러내고 사람들에게 보여주는데 겪는 개인적 어려움에서 시작됩니다. 어떤 한 개인으로 그것을 넘어선 인간 존재로 자신을 드러내 보이기란 쉽거나 단순하지 않으며, 그 과정에서 자신이 여러 가지 사회적 고리들과 연결되어 있다는 점을 찾게 됩니다. 이를테면 한 개인은 소속되어 있는 특정 사회와 세계의 구조 틀 안에 있는 동서양의 문화적 차이, 여성성, 사회적 상황과 그것을 넘어 인간 삶의 본질적으로 존재하는 삶과 죽음 등의 문제들과 마주치게 됩니다.

이 고민들은 퍼포먼스 동안의 모습들을 드로잉, 비디오, 사진 등의 방식을 통해 보여주게 됩니다. 작품 속 작은 미동이나 약간의 차이들은 다양한 문제를 보여주는 역할을 하며 이러한 표현을 거쳐 일상에 숨겨진 정치성들을 발견하고 스스로를 드러내는 과정에서 마주치는 문제점들과 소통합니다. ■ 미지와의 조우

My work originated from my interests about how to represent myself in the context of society as a woman, an Asian and even a human being in the world. These interests are engaged in a variety of issues. In terms of cultural differences between the West and East, women's issues, politics and even more death and birth and the most basic matters which exist in the life of a human being. ● These concerns are articulated in a form of the body moving images and show the works through the video and performance. My body is the main drawing tool in the video and performance. In my work I try to show controversial issuesthrough showing very small differencesor slight movement. From that, I am continuing to chase the politics, which hide in daily life,and the difficulties I face when I represent myself. ■
