Tree of heart

오래된 고목나무에 하트를 새긴다. 그리고, 그 안에 서로의 이름을 새겨 넣는다. 영원하자는, 진실하자는 마음을 담아서… 그러나, 사랑의 상징인 하트 안을 들여다 보자. 원래는 가위였다. 그러나 이제는 더 이상 가위가 아니다. 더 정확히 말해서 가위의 기능을 할 수 없는 가위이다. 그 가위는 한 쪽이거나, 기능과는 무관하게 불편하게 붙어 있다. 한쪽은 다른 한쪽을 향해 몹쓸 말을 뱉어낼 것처럼, 상채기를 낼 기세로 날이 잔뜩 서있는 칼과 같다. 그 둘은 한없는 수평선을 긋고 서로 다른 곳을 향하면서 옥죄듯 하나가 되어있다. 이 얼마나 안타까운 몸짓인가? 이렇듯 가위는 전혀 다른 형상으로 다시 태어나 우리에게 말을 걸고 있다.

그리고, 예쁘다. 웃고 있는 눈 같기도 하고, 그 눈 아래로 눈물이 흐르는 것 같기도 하다. 아무것도 아닐 수도 있다. 삶이 그렇게 간단하지 않은 것처럼, 정답이 없는 것처럼, 어쩌면 나름의 몫 일 게다. 인생의 희로애락(喜怒哀樂)을 모두 품은 하트나무의 그 큰 품 안에 잠시 쉬어 갔으면 한다. ■ 노희정

Tree of heart ● Carve a heart in an old tree. Then, carve each other's names inside the heart with purity in mind of love eternal. Let's see the heart, the symbol of love. Originally it came from a pair of scissors. However it is not a pair of scissors anymore. More precisely speaking, these are a pair of scissors that no longer function as they once did. The scissors are uncomfortably attached to each other. It's as though one side wants to say something bad to the other. Each side has got a sharp edge making them more likely to want to hurt each other. Together they are whole but each looks the other way, never able to meet one another, like the two ends on a horizontal line. What a heartbreaking gesture! After all that, the scissors are reborn into a totally different shape and express themselves to us. The shape is beautiful, it looks like smiling eyes to you, like tears from its eyes. Maybe it seems meaningless; as though life was not so simple with no easy answers, but it depends on how you interpret it. I hope you are able to rest and relax in the bosom of the tree of hearts where all kinds of human emotions flow: happiness, anger, sorrow and pleasure. ■ HEEJUNG NOH
