공생 구도(Symbiotic composition) ● 우리는 세상의 온갖 존재들에 뒤엉켜 숨 쉬며 살아가고 있다. 맨델의 유전의 법칙에는 우성을 가진 유전자가 살아남는다고 했지만 이 세상엔 어느 것이 우성이고 열성이랄 것도 없이 온갖 상극의 존재들이 서로의 소멸과 죽음을 야기하며 질서 없이 엉켜 있는 듯하다. 하지만 그들은 공생이라는 생존 법칙에 의해 보이지 않게 조화를 이루며 살아 오고 있다. 불 같은 태양을 머금은 물의 생명체들, 흐름과 고임이 공존하는 자연세계와 인간세계 그리고 인간의 역사. 때로 이들의 공존 관계는 살아 남기 위해 불가피하며 이러한 상극의 공존이라는 자연의 법칙, 즉 세상을 이루는 수많은 요소들 간의 대립이라는 보이지 않는 은은한 충돌이 세상을 엮어 간다. ● 군집의 무리가 모여 세상을 만들어 가는 동안 갈등과 대립이라는 상극의 에너지들이 계속 충돌해감은 이제 우리의 역사가 되었다. 전쟁에서부터 제건 이라는 인간 역사의 과정 속에 공생하며 살아가는 우리의 모습을 '경(景)'의 동양적 자연관으로 표현하려 한다. 현상을 최소 단위로 나누어서 분류 하고 분석하여 이해 하려는 서양의 모더니즘적 사고 체계보다는 총체적으로 보고 '관계(relationship)'에 더 초점을 둔 동양적 사고에 기초하여 혼란스런 지금 우리의 세계에 공생의 구도라는 질서를 부여하려 한다. 산수 등의 자연계의 아름다운 현상인 경치, 흥미 있는 상황인 경황의 준말이거나, 연극에서 사용될 때에는 무대의 동일한 장에서 등장 인물의 교체 따위에 의해서 변화가 나타나는 장면을 의미하는 '경(景)'은 즉 연속적인 맥락에서 보이는 아름답거나 흥미 있는 자연계의 현상이나 자연 특질이 있는 장소를 말한다. ● 동전의 양면과 같이 공존하는 대립 에너지의 가시적 풍경은 자연과 인간의 이미지가 하나되어 얽힌 풍경인 정원술(gardening, topiary)과 미로(maze)의 조형성 그리고 현존하는 건축물에서 또한 찾을 수 있다. 자연을 인간의 영역으로 자연스레 흡수시키고 기호화 함으로써 상징적인 새로운 존재로써의 공생 채를 만들어가는 이는 인간의 자연 친화적 본능에 대한 실험적 공간으로, '경(景)'이라는 흥미로운 공간 재연을 위해 자연물을 패턴화 시키고 인공적 건축물이나 기하학 무늬 안에서 자라나게 함으로써 흔히 자연과 문화 그리고 인공물과 유기체로 불리는 상극의 에너지를 공생이라는 이미지적 해석을 통해 표현하고자 한다. ■ 정윤경

Symbiotic composition ● We live and breathe, entangled with all kinds of entities in the world. On the outside it may seem to be chaos and confusion due to an infinite increase in entropy. Mendel's laws of heredity states that genes that have dominance survive, but in this world it seems there are no dominant or recessive entities. Instead, incompatible beings seem to bring about each others destruction and death, and are chaotically entangled. However, they continue to live by achieving invisible harmony according the law of survival called symbiosis. The beings in water that hold within them the fiery sun, the world of nature and human beings and human history in which flow and stillness coexist—at times their relationship of coexistence is inevitable, and this law of nature called coexistence of opposites, the invisible and subtle collisions arising from the conflicts between countless elements that make up the world, weave the world. ● Oppositional energies called conflict and confrontation continue to create collisions while a community group gathers and makes the world, and those events have become our history. I wish to express the way we live in symbiosis within the process of human history from wars to reconstructions as an Eastern view of nature called "Gyeong (景)." Rather than using the system of Western modernist thought, which divides phenomena into the smallest units and classifies and analyzes them, I aim to see things holistically and bestow order called symbiotic structure to today's chaotic world using as basis Eastern thought, which focuses more on "relationships." "Gyeong (景)" is an abbreviated word that signifies the beautiful sceneries of nature such as mountains and waters, or interesting state of things, or a scene in a play in which some change occurs, such as replacement of characters on stage. In other words, the word refers to beautiful or interesting natural sceneries seen within a continuous context or a place with special characteristics of nature. I am trying to create an image that we are pursuing, a perfect Utopia which exists in this interesting place called "Gyeong (景)." ■ JEONGYUNKYUNG
