경기창작센터는 2010 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하는 입주작가의 전시를 지원하고 있습니다. 올해 마지막 전시지원 프로그램으로 2010년 12월 8일부터 2011년 1월 9일까지 안지미+이부록의 『파블로프의 사나운 개와 슈뢰딩거의 게으른 고양이』展을 선보입니다. ● 안지미+이부록은 새로운 선택에 의해 낡고 불편한 것으로 배제된 무수히 많은 것들, 새로운 것을 추구해야 하는 두려움과 강박증, 개발논리가 우선한 정책에 의해 빠르고 강하게 소비되어 사라져 가는 것에 대한 오마주, 탐사와 기록 및 오브제 제작, 참여와 공유, 퍼포먼스와 전시, 그리고 이 모두를 담는 출판에 이르기까지의 전 과정을 『뉴이즘 운동 Newism Movement 』이라 명명합니다.『Newism Movement』는 경기창작센터가 위치한 지역적 특징(섬)을 활용한 장소특정적인 프로젝트로 사람들의 유입-동선에 의해 양산된 노동의 구조와 사회적 매뉴얼들을 찾아내고, 재해석하여 오늘의 시각으로 재현하는 과정을 보여주고 있습니다. ● 『파블로프의 사나운 개와 슈뢰딩거의 게으른 고양이』展은 『Newism Movement』프로젝트의 일환으로 과거와 현재를 관통하는 장소의 맥락과 사람들 간의 역학을 물리학자의 시선으로 관찰합니다. 7채널 영상작품 및 설치와 아티스트 북으로 재구성된 본 프로젝트의 과정+결과는 파블로프와 슈뢰딩거의 대화 속에서 가상의 사건을 모티브로 모호하지만 분명히 우리의 현재 속에서 함께하고 있는 개발논리의 이면, 사라진 시공간의 기억들을 진술하고 있습니다. ■ 경기창작센터

자석신 Magnet + -파블로프의 사나운 개와 슈뢰딩거의 게으른 고양이 ● 2010년 가을, 자석신(Mag+신shoes)을 신고 목가적인 선감도의 낙조를 바라보며(자석+신scene) 어느덧 1945년으로 거슬러 올라갔다. 일본은 동아시아의 신질서(자석+신new)를 확립한다는 명목아래 한반도 및 대륙을 점령하고 있었고, 도시의 안정적 지배를 위해 섬에 수용소를 만들고 부랑아를 격리해 황국신민화교육과 가혹한 노동을 시켰다. 견디기 힘든 아이들이 탈출을 시도하다 많은 주검(자석+신ghost)이 되었고, 그 흔적은 섬 주민들의 기억에 내재되어 있었다. 식민 지배를 혹독히 겪고 소외됐던 지역이 어떻게 과거의 역사적 사건을 받아들여야 하고, 어떻게 동아시아의 정세, 나아가 국제 관계와 관련지어 설명할 수 있을까? 그러다 좀 더 추상적인 개념으로 접근해, 근대 초기 파블로프의 개 조건반사 실험과 슈뢰딩거의 고양이 양자역학 확률 실험이 우리에게 미쳤을지 모르는 그 파장의 결과를 기호반응에 적용해 유추해 질문하기로 했다. 즉, 하나의 지역에서 일어난 과거의 미시적 사건이 거시적 세계에 영향을 미칠 때 역사는 조건과 작용에 의해 결정되고, 그 분기점으로 현실이 확률에 의해 고정된다면, 왜 인간은 빛이나 입자처럼 같은 시간과 공간을 통과했는데 다른 간섭에 의해 지배받게 되는 것일까?

1. 파블로프(이하 파): 결국 히로시마에 원폭이 낙하운동을 하면서 대동아의 신질서에 대한 실험은 증명하지 못하였네요. 슈뢰딩거(이하 슈): 열성세포로 이뤄져 서해바다 선감도에 격리 수용한 조선 부랑아들의 황국신민화 교육 및 훈련이 뇌세포에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험도 수포로 돌아갔습니다. 파: 과거 임진왜란과 정유재란의 7년간의 침략과 명나라 등 국제 정세와 통합에 대한 장기간의 실험을 표본으로 식민 모델을 완성하는 단계였지요? 슈: 예를 들어 고무신은 근대화정책에 좋은 발명품이었습니다. 민속주의적 디자인에 질기고 실용적이어서 서구 합리주의를 적용시키는데 적합했습니다. 사람들은 이미 익숙해져있는 짚신 모티브에 반응했고 더 많은 발걸음(죽을 때까지 이 걸음)으로 노동과 생산을 극대화해 근대화를 이루었습니다. 그러나 일본이 미시적인 실험에 치중할 때 미국은 거시적 실험을 감행했습니다. (미국의 원폭 낙하실험은 파장이 대단했습니다. 힘의 이동이 되었죠) 명나라의 조건반사적인 힘의 과시와는 차원이 틀렸습니다. 파: 엄밀히 그건 의식 초기단계의 단순 반사작용이고, 제 실험은 모스크바에서 1902년, 개에게 조건(먹이를 줄 때 반복적으로 종소리를 낸다)이 주어진 상태에서 반응(종소리를 낼 때 침을 흘린다)하는 조건반사 실험을 입증하지요. 그런데 당신이 1935년에 한 밀폐된 상자 속의 고양이 방사능 사고 실험을 미국이 실행에 옮긴 것이군요. 슈: 관측되기 전의 확률 실험을 인간에게 실행하고 관측하면서, 비록 희생이 있긴 했지만 여러 가지 실험이 동시에 이루어졌고 패러다임의 변화를 입증한 샘이지요. 그리고 모든 지구 행성의 힘은 재배치됩니다. 파: 어찌되었든 붕괴이전과 붕괴이후의 중첩되지 않는 상황을 고무신의 소멸로 유추할 수 있겠네요. 슈: 조건이 중성화 되어 소거되는 현상이라 할 수 있습니다. 반사기호학으로 설명 해 주실 기회가 있을테니... 고전역학으로 설명되지 않는 모순처럼 그대로 고전미학의 모순에도 적용된다고 생각합니다. 고전은 현재에 의해 조건적으로 반응하기 마련입니다. 파: 한국전쟁 이후 미군의 폐타이어를 이용한 재활용에도 불구하고 점차 고무신도 결국 사라지지요? 슈: 운동화로 조건이 대체되지요 패러다임이 바뀌니까요 그것이 합리주의의 거시적인 모순입니다 동시에 나이키와 같은 다국적 기업이 지배하게 됩니다. 파: 아, 기술을 훈련받은 가난한 부랑아들이 거기에 투입되는 것이군요.

2. 슈: 맥도널드의 신자유주의 다국적 프로젝트도 같은 맥락에서 실시됩니다. 붉은머리광대 로널드아저씨의 미소는 자본의 정교한 기호입니다. 아무도 그 욕망을 쉽게 발견할 수 없게 포장되어 있고, 경제 논리만을 보아서는 중요한 모순점을 발견할 수도 없습니다. 파: 미국의 햄버거커넥션Hamburger Connection 프로젝트로 아마존이 파괴되었듯이, 중국에 유입된 자유경제체재와 함께 환경의 악화요인이 되어 대륙의 사막화를 가속화시킨 것이 황사바람으로 반작용했습니다. 또한 패스트푸드 이데올로기에 작용하는 노동구조에서의 생체반응을 연구하기 위해서도 아이들이 필요하게 된 것이지요? 슈: 나이키아저씨의 위상처럼 마찬가지로 아이들은 기호를 학습 받는데 적합했습니다. 아이들은 시각조건에 대한 층위조건을 학습 받고 다시 조건화 된 반응을 통해 위계와 질서를 확립합니다. 예를 들어 전시나 전쟁놀이 같은 상황에서는 모두가 똑같은 디자인의 의복과 신발 등에 오로지 계급장이 개체를 분류하는 기호로써 작용하게 되는 것입니다. 파: 나이키 로고가 승리와 속도를 상징해 다국적으로 파급되었다면 대중의 관계에서는 그 상위의 분류 기호로 샤넬 로고와 같은 명품 기호가 등장합니다. 슈: 급격한 경제성장으로 인한 금전 만능주의의 출현은 앞서 얘기했던 고전적 가치의식의 혼란과 집단주의에 의해 급격히 시장을 지배하게 됩니다. 사람들은 상황과 조건에 영향을 받으며 행위를 하게 되었고, 사회적 존재 조건의 차이가 곧 사회성원들 사이의 차이와 서열을 드러내는 요인이 되었습니다. 파: 물질만능은 탐욕과 권력의 이미지를 만들고, 과시의 욕구, 사용가치 이상의 기호를 창조합니다. 부, 재화를 통한 소비 지위와 기호의 가치 기능을 극대화하는 동시에 구별 짓기 심리나 모방 심리 차원으로 파장되기 시작했지요. 슈: 또한 인간 본성을 배제한다는 조건에서 그 기호와 유사한 다른 기호를 대체해도 인식 이후의 반응이 유사하다는 실험 결과가 나왔습니다. 파: 학습 이외의 다른 행동 반응이 있다는...? 슈: 대체조건반응이라고 합니다. 한정적 범위에서 유사조건에도 반사작용이 일어나는 사실입니다. 대체할 사물은 한계가 있지만 대체할 기호는 무한에 가깝습니다.

3. 파: 강대국들이 무력이나 경제력으로 영토 확장을 통해 주변 국가를 지배하던 시대에서 선회하여 인간의 내면, 기호를 개척하고 지배하는 방법으로 대체했지요. 슈: 일제 강점기에도 영토지배와 동시에 문화적 지배의 통치수단으로 창씨개명創氏改名 프로젝트는 실패하긴 했지만 민족말살정책의 일환으로 언어와 기호를 통제한 중요한 사례입니다. 조선인의 이름을 일본식 성씨의 칭호로 바꾸어 일본식 제도에 동화시키는 한편, 창씨를 하지 않을 경우 배제, 질책, 구타, 사찰, 노무징용, 식량 물자 배급 제외 등의 불이익으로 조건을 악화시켰습니다. 파: 내선일체內鮮一體(일본과 조선은 원래 한 몸이다)라고 했지요. 그 프로젝트가 시행된 당시(1940년)에는 기호 조건에 동화되거나, 배제되는 두 가지 선택의 경우에서 동시에 중첩된 상태를 끝내고 하나의 상태로 고정시키려는 시도와 시점이었지요. 슈: 인간 또한 중력과 같이 상호간의 무질서를 감소하기 위해 발생하는 힘에 의존하고 있습니다. 이것은 곧 우리가 불완전하며 끊임없이 움직이는 무질서의 세계에 지탱하고 있다는 말이기도 합니다. 파: 이상국가의 통치자들은 그러한 불확실한 힘과 언어, 기호의 지배적 토대 위에서 균형 상태를 유지해 온 것이로군요. 슈: 우리는 붕괴한 과거와 붕괴하지 않았을 다른 과거의 연결점에서 다른 선택으로 나아 갈 중첩상태에서 관측하고 있었던 것이 됩니다. 파: 아...그렇다면 저도 이제 자석신(명품+검정+고무+영구+자석신)을 찾아 신고 자기장을 타고 관측지점 위로 튀어 올라야겠네요. 불확실한 과거로부터 가뿐히. ■ 안지미+이부록

Magnet+... ● Pavlov's Violent Dog and Schroedinger's Lazy Cat In the autumn of 2010, I wore the Magshoes (Mag+shoes), looking at the glow of the setting sun (Mag+scene) in Seongamdo, a pastoral island, which dates back to 1945. Under the cause to establish a new order in East Asia (Mag+new), Japan dominated the Korean peninsula and the continent back then, and forced upon the training for 'Japanese loyal subjects' and harsh labor by building prisons on the island and segregating vagrants to stably rule the city. Children who could not stand it any longer turned out dead (Mag+ghost) in their attempt for escape, and the memories are deeply ingrained in the memories of the local residents on the island. How can a harshly colonized and isolated region accept historic events of the past and how can this be explained in association with the political affairs of East Asia and the international relations? Approaching it in more abstract terms, I decided to raise questions by applying to and inducing signal reactions the possible repercussions of Pavlov's dog referring to experiments in classical conditioning using dogs and Schroedinger's Cat's quantum theory-testing probabilistic experiments on our lives. In other words, when microscopic events of the past that took place in one region influence the macroscopic world, leading the history to be determined by conditions and reactions, and having the watershed points fixate the reality by the probabilistic theory, why do humans get to be ruled under some form of oppression when they themselves passed time and space like light or particles? ● 1. Pavlov (hereinafter referred to as 'P'): There was no verification on the experiment on the new order in East Asia when an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Schroedinger (hereinafter referred to as 'S'): Even the experiment on the impact of the education and training for 'the Japanese loyal subjects' or vagrants of Joseon who were segregated in Seongamdo in the west sea comprising recessive cells on their brain cells went up in smoke. P: It was a stage to complete a colony model based on the sample of long-term experiments on the Imjin War and the Second War of Jeong-yu of Korea, resulting in invasions for seven years and alignment with international hierarchical order, e.g. with the Ming Dynasty of China, right? Then, the U.S.conducted your experiment where a radioactivity experiment with a cat in a closed box was conducted in 1935. S: Despite sacrifice that followed upon conducting to humans and observing probabilistic experiments prior to observation, various experiments took place at the same time, verifying a change in the paradigm. And, the power on the plant of the earth is reshuffled. P: Anyhow, non-overlapping circumstances prior and post to the collapse can be deduced with the extinction of rubber shoes. S: It can be interpreted that conditions are neutralized and eradicated. You might explain it in response signal mechanisms. Just like the paradox that cannot be explained with classical dynamics, it is applied to the paradox to the classic aesthetics, because classics conditionally respond to the present. P: The U.S. army in Korea after the Korean War ended recycled used tires to produce rubber shoes, they will disappear from the market eventually. S: The conditions change into sneakers, because the paradigm changes. That is the macroscopic irony of rationalism. At the same time, multinational companies like Nike rule the world. The smile of the red-haired Ronald is a refined signal of the capital. It is packaged so that nobody can easily discover the desire, and major paradoxes cannot be discovered based on the economic logic alone. P: Just like the Amazon was destroyed in the Hamburger Connection Project of the U.S., it deteriorated the environment along with the liberal economic scheme introduced to China, speeding up the desertification, which served as a reaction in the form of yellow dust wind. Moreover, children were needed to research over the bio-reaction under a labor structure that responds to the fast food ideology, I guess. S: Just like the prestige of the UNCLE NIKE, children were suitable to be trained on symbols. Children learned about layer-specific conditions on visual conditions, and had the hierarchy and order rooted in themselves through responses that were, once again, conditioned. For instance, under circumstances like wars or war games, everyone wore the uniforms and shoes with the same design, responding as symbols classified by superiors as distinctions. P: When the Nike logo spread through other countries as it symbolized triumph and speed, symbols of designer brands like Chanel's logo have appeared as upper-level symbols. S: The emergence of the thinking that money is everything amid the rapid economic growth has rapidly ruled the market due to the confusion and collectivism in the aforementioned classical values. People started to act under the influence of circumstances and conditions, and differences in the conditions for social beings distinguished social members in terms of their hierarchy. P: Focus on material affluence has generated the image of desire and power, and created the desire to show off and signals of more than the utility value. It has maximized the status of consumption and value functions of signals through wealth and financial means, while causing ripple effects to the extent of the inseparable sentiment or the emulating instinct. S: Experiment results turned out that responses were similar after the perception even after other signals similar to the signals replaced them under the conditions to eliminate the human instinct. P: Does that mean that there are other reactions besides learning? S: They are what we call Alternative Conditional Responses. Reactions take place even under similar conditions within the limited scope. There are finite replaceable objectives with infinite replaceable signals. ● 3. P: It is no longer a period when major countries ruled their neighboring countries through territorial expansion with military or economic power. The new mechanism in place was to explore and rule the inner world and symbols of humans. S: The project under the name change policy, called Changssi-gaemyeong, was used as a means of territorial control and cultural oppression during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea failed – a case in point where the Korean language and symbols were controlled under the Japanese government's policy of genocide. Names of Joseon people, the Koreans back then, were assimilated into the Japanese system by changing Korean surnames into Japanese ones. If surnames were not changed, the conditions back then were aggravated with social exclusion, ridiculing, violence, supervision, forceful labor and exclusion to provide food supplies. P: One of the Japanese policies was the 'Oneness of Korea and Japan.' In 1940 when the project was implemented, there were attempts to finish off any overlaps from two options, assimilation with conditions of signals and social exclusion. S: Humans also depend on the power generated to reduce the mutual disorder just like the gravity. P: Rulers in ideal countries must have maintained the state of balance on the uncertain power and language and the oppressive ground of symbols. S: We must have observed overlaps to be directed to other options at conjunctions of the collapsed past and another past that would not have collapsed. P: Oh. If that is the case, I need to search for and wear Mag+(Luxury+black+rubber+permanent+Magnet+shoes), and jump up high above the observatory point along the magnetic field lightly from the uncertain past. ■
