작년에 개최되었던『삼국G-2009 회화 그 표현의 중계』전은 한국, 중국, 일본과 독일이 함께 각 국의 전통미술을 통하여 세계현대미술의 흐름을 찾아보고자 기획된 전시였다.

이들 3국-한국(서울대학교 동양화과), 중국(중앙미술학원 국화과), 일본(동경예술대학 일본화과)과 독일(슈트트가르트미술대학)은 전통에 기반하여 발전해온 서로의 회화가 가진 표현방식에 대하여 "중계" 즉, 어디에도 치우치지 않은 자신들만의 새로운 세계를 정진해 나가고자 하는 결론을 도출하게 되었다. 이 과정에서 작품과 전시전반에 대한 정보를 공유하고 나누는 동안 작가들이 경험한 작품에 대한 영감과 성취감은 그 동안 개최되었던 일회성 또는 국한된 교류전이 아닌 지속적이고 발전 가능한 국제적 교류의 장이 필요함을 다시금 인식하게 되었다.

이에 드로잉이라는 요소를 통하여 좀 더 명확하고 발전적인 소통의 장을 마련하고자 『2010 Image in Dialog』 전시를 기획하게 되었다. 즉, '선(線)'을 가지고 있는 드로잉의 특징을 사유의 첫 조각으로 인식하여 작품이라는 전체를 완성하는 개념을 통하여 작가의 정신세계의 표현방법과 그 확장가능성에 대한 모색의 장을 열어보고자 하는 것 이다.

『2010 Image in Dialog』전은 드로잉이라는 매개체를 통해 보다 많은 작가들 간의 적극적 소통을 이끌어내려고 한다. 또한 실제 작업을 하는 작가들이 드로잉에 관한 각국의 상황과 배경, 앞으로의 방향성에 대하여 토론하는 세미나를 개최함으로서 이론과 실제가 어우러지는 대화의 장을 만들어 보고자 한다.

이 대학 간 교류를 통한 작가네트워킹은 한국의 전시와 일본의 전시가 연이어 개최되는 동안 한국과 국제작가들에게 그 어떤 결과물을 통한 전시보다 강력한 이미지로 탐구적이고 발전적인 교류방향을 제시할 것이며 또한 이 전시를 통하여 국내 작가들이 세계의 미술계를 향해 한국의 문화정신을 적극적으로 표현하고, 일본, 중국, 독일 작가와의 다양한 방향으로 소통함으로서 세계교류의 장에서 한국미술의 질적인 성장을 기대할 수 있을 것이다. ■ 신하순

SamkukG-2009: Painting – the Midland of Expression, an exhibition sponsored by the Korean Painting Department at the College of Fine Art, Seoul National University in 2009, presented a survey of recent trends in contemporary art from around the world, seen from the perspective of the traditional arts of Korea, China, Japan and Germany. Between the three countries involved - Korea (represented by the Korean Painting department, Seoul National University), China (Beijing Central Art Academy), Japan (Japanese painting department, Tokyo University of Art) - and Germany (University of Stuttgart), it was agreed that they were stepping toward a midland, a new realm of their own making that didn't give preference to forms of expression based upon any singular tradition. In the discussions that surrounded exhibitions, while sharing ideas and reflections around their works, the participating artists found a sense of inspiration and achievement that encouraged them to find a way sustaining this kind of exchange, rather than having it limited to a one-off event. ● Because of this we were able to create the exhibition 2010 Image in Dialog as a way to provide a much clearer and progressive form of communication through the pictorial nature of drawing. Or to put it another way, we attempted to find drawing's broader possibilities as well as its methods of expression, from the view that linear drawing is the first piece of meditation, as well as the start point in the journey towards a finished work. ● 『2010 Image in Dialog』 strives to allow for direct communication between artists through the medium of drawing. Alongside this, artists with on-site expertise attempt to create a space for a dialogue that maintains a balance between theory and practice, in a seminar discussing its current status as well as future visions, and the backgrounds of each country in terms of drawing. Through exchanges between universities, this network among artists suggests a new vision that allows for continued exploration and development of exhibitions, in addition to sequential exhibitions in Korea and Japan. Additionally, it is hoped that the exhibitions will help enhance the quality of Korean art through a dynamic network of communication with artists in Japan, China, and Germany, as well as by taking the spirit of Korean culture to the rest of the world. ■ Shin, Ha Soon
