정원은 나에겐 특별한 구조물이다. 그것은 기억의 공간을 나타내고 성찰할 수 있는 풍경을 제공한다. 정원에는 자연과 인공의 힘이 함께 작용하며, 또한 정원은 인간의 주변과의 관, 철학, 그리고 역사를 반영한다. 궁전과 학자의 정원에서부터 단순하게 식물을 기르기 위한 정원, 산의 바위, 그리고 반사적인 샘까지. 이러한 다양한 정원들의 전통으로부터 나의 작품 '야생의 씨' '잔잔한 정원' 설치작품의 소재는 기원된다. 씨앗은 문화적인 내용들을 합성하는데, 특별히 역사적인 내용들 (전통적인 자기그릇, 돌 더미, 전통적인 의상)을 일상의 공공 생활의 요소들(공사장, 보도, 신문, 지역의 꽃 정원)과 결합한다. 이러한 결합을 통하여 친숙한 유머, 기억, 역사 그리고 성장을 의미하는 풍경이 드러난다.

The garden is a special construction for me. It can represent a space of memory,providing a landscape model to contemplate. The area between natural and artificialshapes the garden, and it reflects a people's relationship, philosophy, and history with their surroundings. From palace and scholar gardens to simple vegetable gardens, mountain rock piles, and reflective ponds, I drew upon this tradition for my installation "Wild seeds, tranquil garden". "Seeds" incorporates cultural references, combining specific historical ones (ceramic vessels, stone piles, traditional clothing) with elements from daily public life (construction sites, sidewalks, newspapers, and local flower gardens). This combination reveals an intimate landscape of humor, memory, history, and growth. ● Sandra Eula Lee is a Korean-American artist born in New Jersey and based in New York. She is the recipient of an Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Manhattan Community Art Fund Grant, and an Asian Cultural Council Fellowship, among others. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including venues in New York, Seoul, Berlin, Milan, Rome, and recently in Mumbai, India.
