생활의 발견 Daily Encounter

상황의 은유 ● 흘러가는 삶속에서 나와 내 주변인물들이 카멜레온처럼 변신하는 것을 본다. 그가 처한 상황이나 감정에 따라서 인간은 은유적으로 다른 대상이 되어버리는 것 같다. 주변에서 흔히 접하는 음식이나 일상적인 사물들이 갖고 있는 조형적인 특징과 기능에 사람의 감정을 빗대어 그 사람을 대신하는 상태로 만든다. 현실적이면서도 비현실적인 장면, 그러나 감정이라는 측면에서 보았을 때 오히려 사진이나 극사실의 회화보다 더 구체화된 상황을 연출하고자 했다. 크기가 실제보다 커지거나 작아져버릴 때, 그래서 더 우스꽝스럽고 비현실적이 될수록 그것은 눈이 아닌 머리로 본 현상에 더 가까워진다. 또한 대상의 감정을 효과적으로 연출하기 위해 비유된 사물을 물리적으로 변형시킨다거나 다른 주변의 배경과 소품들을 이용한다. 이러한 은유적인 기록들을 통해 부정적 감정은 유희적인 풍자로 극복하고, 긍정적 감성은 과장하여 연출함으로써 온전히 즐기고자 한다. 그래서 그림 안의 '나'는, 인형극에서 의상과 탈을 바꿔 가며 연기하는 다중배역의 연기자 같다. 이렇게 변하지라도 않는다면 이 삶은 쉽게 지치고 답답할 것이다. ■ 허보리

Daily Encounter ● Metaphoric Expressions of Human Life I observe people around me transform into Chameleons in everyday life. It seems that people change into metaphoric subjects under specific situations or emotions. I create a substitute of the person using the sculptural features and functions of objects around us such as food embedding human emotions into it. Realistic and unrealistic at the same time, yet from a emotional perspective I tried to paint a more descriptive situation even compared to photographs or hyper realistic paintings. As size gets bigger or smaller than reality, leading to humor and unreality, it becomes closer to a phenomenon observed by the mind not the eye. Also the metaphoric object is physically transformed or surroundings and props are used to effectively direct the emotions of the subject. Negative emotions are overcome with enjoyable lampoon and positive emotions are celebrated with delightful exaggeration. That is why the "Me" inside my paintings can be thought of as an actress with multiple roles. If there is no such drama, life can be easily boring and exhausting. ■ Hur Boree
