몽골의 바람, 그리고 아이들 ● 푹푹 찌는 서울의 무더운 여름. 불쾌지수가 도시 속 빌딩의 높이 만큼이나 높던 7월. 다시 찾아간 몽골에서 나를 맞이해 준 그 바람. 혹독하고 긴 몽골의 겨울을 견뎌낸 것에 포상하듯 기분 좋은 바람이 얼굴에 스쳐온다.

"어디서 불어오는 지 알 수는 없어도 이 바람 덕에 숨통이 좀 트인다." 먼저 웃어 주진 않아도 내가 웃음을 건네면 이내 앞니 빠진 미소로 쑥스럽게 웃어보인다. 표현은 서툴지만 종이 한 장 꽉 차게 하트를 그려 등에 붙이고 도망간다. 어느새 옆자리를 꿰찬 아이는 내 손의 온기를 자신의 얼굴에 대어본다. 몽골의 눈처럼 때묻지 않은 아이들 몽골의 초원을 자유로이 누비기를 갈망하는 몽골의 아이들.

이 아이들에게는 아직 넘어야 할 장벽이 많다. 부모를 잃어 거리를 누비고 가난과 가정불화의 희생양이 되어 거리에 버려지고 질병 때문에 부모마저 등져 버렸다. 혼자 넘기엔 너무 버겁고 힘들기만 한 그 장벽 앞에서 아이들은... 주저앉는다. 하얗던 눈은 하염없이 녹아 내리기만 하고 이제 초원을 꿈꾸기에 세상은 너무 답답하다.
