Perfume

Perfume은 냄새를 되찾고자 하는 마음에서 비롯된 작업이다. 후각 기능을 통해 주위 사물과 환경을 정확히 인지하기 힘들었던, 자신의 상황을 모티브로 삼아, X-Ray로 꽃의 내부까지 들여다봄으로써 냄새를 이해하고 소유하고자 하는 욕망과 후각의 소중함을 표현하고자 했다.

Perfume ● 내 코의 후각은 전원 스위치처럼 ON, OFF가 된다 . 하지만, 나의 의지대로 조절할 수는 없다. 후각기능이 꺼지게 되면 미각의 기능도 같이 사라져 버리는데, 이 때에는 상한 음식을 먹어도 그것의 이상유무를 알 수 없게 된다. 이런 상태가 되면 세상은 매우 무미건조해지며, 후각과 미각의 정보가 없기 때문에 대상에 대한 호기심과 탐구 그리고 냄새를 소유하고 싶은 욕망에 더욱 집착하게 된다. 나는 나의 삶이 주는 이러한 현상을 통해, 향기를 대표하는 꽃을 대상으로 삼아 내 후각의 부족했던 정보를 더 이해하고자 X-Ray로 내부까지 촬영하면서, 꽃의 냄새를 상상하고 소유하기 위한 작업을 하게 되었다. 세상의 모든 향은 우리들의 느낌과 감정을 조절하기도 하며, 소중한 기억과 추억을 되살려 주기도 한다. 당신은 오늘 하루 얼마나 많은 향기를 무의식 속에서 음미하고 있는가 ? 이번 작업에서는 후각에 대한 소중함을 담고자 했다. ■ 박용균

Perfume ● The sense of smell in my nose can be turned on and off like a switch on a lamp. Unfortunately it cannot be controlled by my will. When the sense of smell is shut off the sense of taste also vanishes. During this state I cannot tell if something has gone bad. In these conditions this lo st sense seems to take away a significant part of enjoyment of life. But at the same time it triggers an immense curiosity for the taste and scent of object creating a craving for the possession of the sense of smell as if something had been lost which wa s rightfully ones own. My work starts from this craving for the scent which is best represented by the flower. By exploring the inner dimensions of the flower and photographing this information which is hidden behind the exterior had given me a better unde rstanding and also a possession of the scent. It is everywhere and it can often influence the mood. Often it brings up precious memories as it was a part of that precious remembrance. Take a minute to appreciate this precious sense which we all take for granted. My work presented here is my appreciation of the scent. ■ PARKYONGGYUN
