2005년 시작된 오픈스페이스 배 레지던스 프로그램은 2009년을 기점으로 국내로 국한된 지역적 한계를 벗어나 국제 레지던스 프로그램으로 탈바꿈 되었다. 부산에서 그것도 민간이 운영하는 단체에서 국제 레지던스 프로그램을 운영한다는 것은 그 유일성 이전에 그것이 가지는 상징적 의미가 더 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 2009년 국제레지던스 프로그램은 한국작가 6명과 서로다른 7개국에서 온 8명의 외국작가들이 부산외곽의 일광산 중턱이라는 사뭇 이국적환경에서 6개월간 그들만의 소통과 문화를 만든바있다. ● 2010년 프로그램은 한국작가 3명 (구인성, 정혜령, 임현정)과 7개국에서 모인 외국작가 8명 (리테쉬 아즈메리-인도, 아마르사이칸-몽골, 마르티나 라페디우스-독일, 토마스 린드프라이쉬-독일, 우 다 쿠엔-대만, 슈양-중국, 리춘펑-홍콩, 카 롱 웡-마카오)로 구성되어있다. 이들중 상반기에 입주한 구인성(서울-평면), 정혜령(서울-입체), 임현정(서울-평면), 리테쉬 아즈메리(인도-입체), 우다쿠엔(대만-매체), 슈양(중국-행위)를 주축으로 전시를 기획하였다. ● 이번 전시는 프로그램의 주요한 목적은 대중에게 작품 관람을 제공하는 1차적 기능도 있으나 무엇 보다도 큰 목적은 작가와 작가간의 소통, 프로그램과 지역간의 소통을 그 최종으로 한다. 레지던스 프로그램이 작가에게 작업장을 제공하는 단편적 기능을 거부하고 작가와 작가, 문화와 문화간의 소통을 추구하는 오픈스페이스 배의 프로그램 목적에 따라 이번 전시역시 준비와 진행 그리고 과정을 통한 작가간의 소통을 적극적으로 이루게 하는 역할과 더불어 프로그램과 지역에 이러한 활동을 전시를 통하여 그간의 소통의 부산물을 소개하는 것이 그 목표이다. ● 이러한 소통을 통한 작은 결과들이 전시에 참여한 작가 혹은 그들과 관계된 이들이 스스로가 위치했던 곳으로 다시 되돌아 갔을때 또다른 담론이라는 새로운 연결을 끈이 이 전시를 기회로 재생산 되기를 기대해본다. ■ 오픈스페이스 배

Openpace Bae's artist-in-residence program was founded in 2005 and transformed as an international artist in residence program in 2009 to cross a boundary of locality. This program is not just the only international residence program in Busan but also there is much more thing which can be a symbol as a movement of Busan art scene. 2009's program was constructed with 6 of Korean artists and 8 of foreign artists who came from 7 different countries. They had stayed in the middle of Ilkwang Mt. together and made their own communications and cultures for 6 month in this exotic environment. ● This year's program is constructed with 3 Korean artists (Ku, Ihn Seong-Seoul/ Chung, Hye Ryung-Seoul/ Lim, Hyun Jung-Seoul) and 8 foreign artists (Ritesh Ajmeri-India/ Amarsaikhan Namslaijav-Mongolia/ Wu Dar Kuen-Taiwan/ Shu Yang-China/ Martian Rapedius & Thomas Rindfreish-Germany/ Lee Chun Fung-Hong Kong/ Ka Long Wong-Macao). This exhibition has run by first term artists who already staying here in Bae from May and has displayed with diverse works such as paintings, installations, videos and performance which had madden during their stay. ● This exhibition is designed not just for a public but also designed for making a communication between each residence artists and also making a chain between local art scene and residence artists in Busan. We do not want to be a space which provide just a free space but only we pretty eager that this program can be a good opportunity to communicate each other as an artist during the stay. 2010년 7월 5일. 배 밭에 그늘을 만들던 죽은 나무는 잘려졌다. 이미 벌레 먹고 썩어 문드러져 있었다. 큰 가지가 잘려나간 몽당 몸뚱이를 질질 끌며 작업실로 가져왔다. 손이 없는 녀석은 말도 없이 누워 있었다. 잘려나간 가지를 불에 태워 그 재로 다시 나무의 가지가 자라게 하였다. 나의 손, 나무를 자른 손, 나무의 손.

July 5, 2010 A tree was cut by someone and lay down around my studio which tried to make a shade. It was already almost decayed and had attacked from bugs. I have brought it to my studio which lost ones' big branches. It lay down without any words at my studio which lost ones' hands. I burned cut blanches and made hands with burned charcoal that came from the tree These can be my hands or can be hands of who cut the tree or the tree's ones.

마주한다는 것... 낯설지 않게 다가오는 것들에 대한...그러한 흔한 것들에 대한 기억이다. 보이려 하는 것들과 숨죽여 기다림의 마주함에 대한 사소한 풍경이다.

For me,facing to someone or something....it is the trivial memories of ordinary things. It is the landscape of hidden and appeared things.

생명/영원함/축적된 역사/눈에 보이지 않는 것/감각과 심리/비언어적 소통이라는 키워드로 드로잉과 설치 작업을 했다. 드로잉은 untitled 1은 본인의 가족 사진을 출력하여 드로잉을 한 뒤 일부를 태운 것이며, 설치 작품인Untitled2는 다양한 유기체들이 바람에 흔들린다.

I started my work from the keywords which are 'life/ eternity/ saved histories/ invisible things/ sense and phycology/ wordless communication. Drawing works 'Untitled 1' are constructed with my family members' photos which burned partially. Installation work 'Untitled 2' is constructed with organic figures and those waving by wind.

나는 매일 인도의 하늘에 새로운 건축물들이 빠르게 자라나는 것을 보아왔다. 이 녹으로 그린작업은 그러한 개발도상국 인도의 모습에서 나온것이다. 모든 녹슨것들은 하나둘씩 새로운것으로 대체되지만, 나는 그것 또한 언젠가는 녹슬어 버리지 않을까 하고 생각하곤한다.

Rusted works are from my experience in present-day India as a developing country where I could see in everyday life new structural lines emerging in sky at the speed of light. All rusted things are gone one by one replaced with new materials though my eyes and brain: sometimes they could be melted into rust stains

일 년전 대만 작가인 칭야오가 오픈스페이스 배에 거주하면서 종이 박스로된 청와대를 만든적이 있다. 일 년후 나역시 오픈스페이스 배 국제레지던스 프로그램 참여를 하게 되었고 그가쓰던 작업실을 배정받게 되었다. 일년동안 방치된 청와대는 아주 많은 먼지와 함께 너덜너덜한 모습으로 남아있었고 나는 그러한 이유로 그것을 철거하기로 결정했으며 그 철거하는 과정과 모습이 오픈스페이스 배에서 만든 첫작업이 되었다.

One year ago, a Taiwan artist Chen Ching Yao created the Cheong Wa Dae made by corrugated paper boxes during his stay at open space bae. After one year I, also came from Taiwan, was arranged to stay in the same studio where Chen had stayed. A year went by, this paper Cheong Wa Dae which was left behind had become very dusty and broken into pieces, so I decided to tear it down and made this process to become my first creation of staying here.

슈양_한국에 관한 기억_라이브 드로잉 Shu Yang-Memory of Korea_Live drawing

슈양은 관객 참여 퍼포먼스, 한국에 관한 기억을 전시기간 동안 선보인다. 그는 관객들로 하여금 번호가 기입된 모자이크 사진을 선택하게 한 후 큰 종이에 똑같은 번호에 사진을 배껴 그리게 하였다. 그는 그림이 완성될때 참여한 관객들의 이메일 주소로 완성된 그림을 발송할 예정이며 또 오픈스페이스 배 홈페이지에 업로드 예정이다.

Shu Yang has performed interactive work that will be run till the end of this exhibition. People can choose a mosaic picture which has a number and image. They copy the image on the big paper that has same number. He will send emails to the audiences when it is done and also will upload on Openspace Baes' homepage.
