MYA展 (the Message from Young Artists) ● 『MYA』展 은 한국 최초 전국대학생들의 자발적 아방가르드 운동으로부터 출발합니다. 한국의 대학생들이 결속하여 기획한 이번 전시는 예술성과 실험성을 앞세워 비전에 대한 빈곤을 느끼는 작가들, 그리고 상업미술계에 한국 동시대 시각문화가 나아가야 할 새로운 방향을 제시하려 합니다. ● MYA 는 자본과 상업성에 좌우되는 현대 미술계에 예술은 "값이 아니라 값진 것"이라는 의미를 재현할 것입니다. 금년에 시작하는『MYA』展 은 동시대 미술계에 한국 미술이 나아가야 할 새로운 대안을 제시할 것입니다. 또한 한국 미술계에 잠재되어있던 새로운 가능성을 실험성과 다양성을 구현하는 작품들을 통해 실현시킬 것입니다. ● 문상원 씨의 기획으로 이루어진『MYA』展 에는 대학생 작가들의 작품이 전시될 뿐 아니라, 대학 교수분들과 미술관계자분들의 관점에서 바라보는 동시대 미술계의 문제점과 대안에 대한 인터뷰 영상이 관훈 갤러리 전관에 전시 될 예정입니다. MYA 는 창조성을 지닌 젊은 작가들의 작품을 통해 한국 예술계가 어떠한 방식으로 성장해야 하는지에 대한 문제의식을 승화시키려 노력하였습니다. ● 또한 『MYA』展 을 통해 동시대에서 미술이 지니는 의미의 기준을 형성할 수 있기를 희망합니다. "현대 예술에서는 다양한 가치들이 존중될 수 있어야 하는데, 이것은 문화적인 다층성이 형성된다는 것을 의미한다."(서울대학교 미학과 이해완 교수 인터뷰)는 생각을 가지고 『MYA』展 은 다양한 매체로 표현되는 작품들을 통해 한국 동시대 예술에서 다양성의 가치가 확장될 수 있는 가능성을 재현해보려 노력하였습니다. ● 7월 16일 금요일 오후 3시 관훈 갤러리에서는 아방가르드에 대한 오픈 세미나와 MYA 작가들의 작품설명 시간이 마련되어 있습니다. 그리고 7월 17일 오후 5시 오프닝 자리에서는 작품 활동에서 순수성으로의 회귀를 상징하는 의례로 인사동 길을 순회하는 퍼포먼스가 진행될 예정입니다. 상복을 갖춰 입은『MYA』展 20명의 참여 작가들은 퍼포먼스를 통해서 예술에서 진정성을 지니는 의미는 물화物化 될 수 없다는 것을 표현하려 합니다. ●『MYA』展은 상업성에 거리를 두는 가치관으로 예술을 실천하려 합니다. 그리고 동시대 한국 미술계가 실현할 수 있는 희망의 가능성을 예술을 통해 보다 확장된 지평에서 펼쳐보려 노력할 것입니다. 앞으로 MYA 가 제시하는 예술관은 동시대 한국의 미술계를 바라보는 시선을 긍정적으로 성립시키는 데에 기여할 수 있을 것입니다. ■ 한주형

The first MYA exhibition is an avant-garde movement in which Korean students are gathered spontaneously. The MYA is willing to present a creative orientation about art to artists feel a lack of artistry and contemporary Korean art world. ● The MYA will produce a valuable meaning, 'Art is not a certain price, but a precious sphere'. Starting from 2010 summer, the MYA will represent Korean art world an alternative direction towards artistry and diversity of artistic value through meaningful objects. ● In the MYA exhibition formed by Sangwon Mun are criticisms and suggestions of the professors and experts in the art world. They will put an opinion about problems and alternatives of the contemporary Korean art works as viewed from the screen in the Kwanhoon Gallery. The MYA is trying to sublimate a critical mind of how promising Korean student artists' artworks can be accepted and grow in the contemporary Korean art world. ● All in all, the MYA hopes the contemporary art world would form the standard of meaning the art has to persue. Haewan Lee (the professor Dept. Aesthetics, Seoul National Univ.) mentions "In the modern art, multiple values should be respected, and this means multi-dimensionality is being accumulated." The MYA exhibition is trying to represent the possibility of broadening multiple value systems in the Korean contemporary artworld. ● On the 7_16_pm3, a seminar session about avant-garde artworks will be opened, and the MYA artists will explain their own art vision with images of artworks. Moreover, on the 7_17_pm5, the MYA members are supposed to conduct a performance along the Insadong main street against the idea of commercialism in modern art world. Performing this kind of ritual, the MYA will express the authentic meaning in artworks shouldn't be reduced as an product in consumerism. ● The MYA exhibition sets a main concept a detached approach towards commercialism in art world, and wants to encourage the atmosphere of hope in contemporary Korean art world regarding the possibility of widening the reflective horizon with a meaningful worldview. With the MYA movement, the present Korean art world system will progress optimistically when viewed from the other side of the cultural systems. ■ Juhyung Han
