현대 예술계에 부는 靑風 ● 환경문화연합 UEC는 2000년 7월 탄생되어 10년의 길을 걸었습니다. 환경을 문화와 예술의 주된 테마로하여 국내외의 창작활동을 『BIEAF 부산국제환경예술제』로 응집시켜왔습니다. 한편 활동의 이론적근거와 학술활동을 위하여 국제환경예술포럼 및 환경예술포럼을 9회차 진행하였고, 문화 활성화를 위하여 기관 및 단체 그리고 기업과의 메세나 MOU체결을 지속적으로 진행하였습니다. 그 결과 지난 1월 19일 롯데백화점 동래점과 문화메세나 협약을 맺고 오늘의 전시에 이르게 되었습니다. ● 우리는 새로운 환경에 적응하고 있습니다. 그 중 괄목할 만한 것은 환경의 패러다임변화가 예상보다 빠르게 진행하고 있다는 것입니다. 자연보존의 개념에서 생활패턴의 개념으로, 생태의 보존에서 인공의 재발견으로 그 확산의 속도가 빠르고 민감하며 경제에 미치는 영향이 갈수록 커지고 있습니다. 이를 근본적으로 보면 환경에 대한 인문학의 재발견인데 예술은 그 중심에 있는 것입니다. ● 때문에 초대된 작가들은 새로운 환경 개념의 파이어니어들이며 우리시대 문화의 단층을 해석하고 재구성하는 시각언어의 창조자들입니다. 우선 이들의 작품에 찬사를 보내며 이들의 의지가 BIEAF의 지속적인 노력으로 이어지기를 기대합니다. 아울러 21세기 기업의 향방을 직시하며 환경과 문화에 대한 깊은 관심으로 MOU를 지속 발전시키려는 롯데백화점 동래점 조학현 지점장 이하 관계자여러분의 탁월한 선택에 찬사를 보냅니다. 우리 모두가 만드는 새로운 환경+문화의 바람, 『靑風』이 시민과 기업이 만드는 위대한 녹색의 씨앗, 푸른 에너지가 되기를 진심으로 기대합니다. ■ 이유상

부드럽게 생명을 변화시키는 푸른 바람 ● 청풍靑風은 푸른 바람, 신선하며 새로운 녹색의 바람이다. 디지털과 속도감으로 표현되는 현대 도시 풍경 속 우리 삶에, 푸른 바람이 필요하다. 인간의 생명 유지가 자연 환경에 절대적으로 의존하고 있음에도 불구하고, 수세기 동안 인간은 발전이라는 명분으로 자연을 이용하고, 때로는 파괴하는 생활 방식으로 오랫동안 생존 해왔다. 즉, 우리는 자연 환경을 필요에 따라 활용하고, 변형하고, 조정하고자 했다. 하지만, 사실 인간은 태어나 자연의 순리에 순응하며 살아갈 수 밖에 없다. 결국엔 우리 모두 다시 자연으로 돌아간다. 자세히 살펴보면, 한결 같은 자연은 살아서 움직이며 우리에게 그 존재와 힘과 순리를 보여주고 있다. ● 『푸른 바람 靑風』전은 자연 환경과 우리의 삶을 다양한 시각으로 보여주는 전시이다. 리얼리티와 가상, 속도감, 테크놀로지의 복잡한 결합체인 도시 현실 속에서, 우리가 떠나서는 살 수 없는 자연과 조화로운 공존을 염원하는 마음과 우리의 존재를 감싸는 생명력과 생기의 큰 흐름 생각하며, 푸른 바람이라는 의미를 추출해 내었다. 여기 초대되는 220여 점의 각양 각색의 시각 예술 분야 작품들이 환경과 문화를 사랑하는 마음으로 모여 『푸른 바람』을 만들어 냈다. 작가들은 여러 매체를 통해 인간과 자연이라는 관계를 형상화하고 살아있는 사유(思惟)의 대상을 창조했다. 푸른 바람은 신선한 에너지이자 소통의 매개이자 촉매이다. ● 다양한 작품은 전체적으로 환경이라는 주제 아래 하나로 어우러져 푸른 바람, 바쁜 일상, 현대 세상사 속에 지친 마음, 굳어진 마음 한 부분을 새순처럼 부드럽게 녹일 푸른 바람이 되어 세상을 향해 그 에너지를 각자의 모양대로 전하는, 우리들의 약동을 보여주고자 한다. 이 푸른 바람이 개인 사회 세상 곳곳으로 부드럽고도 멀리 뻗어 나가기를 기대한다. ■ 변현진

A Green Breeze in Contemporary Art ● EC(Union of Environment & Culture) was inaugurated in July 2000, and steadily walked the way of ten years. With environment as a main theme of culture and art, it has condensed domestic and foreign creative activities into BIEAF(Busan International Environment Art Festival). On the one hand, it developed an international environment art forum and an environment art forum nine times for the theoretical grounds of its activities and for its academic activities, and continued to conclude Mecenat MOU with institutions, organizations and enterprises for revitalizing culture. As a result, it concluded an agreement of cultural mecenat with Lotte Department Store(Dongnae Branch) on last January 19 and came to reach today's exhibition. ● We are adapting ourselves to new environment. What is specially noteworthy is a faster change in environmental paradigm than expected. The paradigm spreads rapidly and sensitively from the concept of conservation of nature to the concept of life pattern, from conservation of ecology to rediscovery of artificiality and has a gradually great effect on economy. Fundamentally, it is the rediscovery of the humanities for environment. Art is on its center. ● For that reason, the invited artists are the pioneers of a new concept of environment and creators of visual language who interpret and reconstruct the monolayer of the culture of our age. First of all, I compliment them on their works and expect that their wills will be connected to BIEAF's continuous efforts. Together with it, I eulogize the excellent choice of the parties concerned under Branch Manager Hark-hyoun Cho of Lotte Department Store(Dongnae Branch) who try to continuously develop MOU with deep interest in environment and culture facing the direction of the enterprises of the 21st century. I sincerely expect that the new wind of environment and culture, 'a green breeze', which we all make will become the great green seed, green energy which citizens and enterprises make. ■ Yousang Lee

Green Breeze : Smooth Steady Vigor of Living Things ● A green breeze is fresh, smooth, revitalizing wind for living things. It is the smoothest form of life. Our city lives are constantly filled with relentlessly advancing high technology. However, nature exhibits only slow evolution over massive spans of time. Nature is filled with wonders that can take humans out of their human-centric egotism. Obviously we cannot live without being supported by nature. Among many subgroups of nature, especially, breeze gives us freshness, healing and vital force. ● Lotte Department Store (Dongnae Branch in Busan) is exposed to a breeze of new environment with UEC (Union of Environment and Culture). The breeze that touches dry minds, warms cold hearts and embroiders green on devastated desert is about to start from Dongnae and advance to Asia and all around the world. The 220 artworks which have been invited to this exhibition 'Green Breeze' are representative of the current culture. They are active as experts in a variety of genres. Despite different areas and styles of work, they gather to befriend the environment to make the green breeze. ● Seeing through the current environment and expressing it as plasticity, the collection becomes the visual culture for environment. Now invited artists' soundless shouting becomes a visual-verbal message of green breeze. Hopefully it will become smooth and steady yet vigorous in our contemporary culture, as well as aiding communication in a global village. ■ Trina Hyunjin Byun
